screen your calls and check up on anyone you don't recognize before calling them back. if they don't leave a message they don't want to be recorded and leave voice evidence. if you do answer the call turn on the recorder and anounce they are being recorded before you start saying hello. if they don't want to be recorded they are scammers and will hang up. banks record all conversations between empoyees and customers for your protection .:) so they shouldn't mind it the other way. just make sure you tell them you are doing it. They will stop calling you if you do this each time or you will get evidence for the authorities on tape.

Payback
Until they get caught or get into serious trouble, screening calls is one way to deal with em :-)
Hello dena I needed cash in an emergency situation and applied for a payday or other short term loan. I got literally 200 to 300 email responses and 100+ phone calls. I got a large number of pre approvals, of which responded to about 5. I was approved for $1500 with a miniumn loan of $500. What was being offered to me, for the most part and in Georgia, was $700 loan (although, I had advised that I only needed $300), whereby, I had to acquire a Walmart Visa Debit card and they would put $200 on debit card and put $500 into my bank account. I would have to pay $115 to $125 per month (depending on loan provider) interest on the loan + $100 principle repayment. No one offered me the process in writing, so that I could study & be sure of rules & processes. I finanlly decided that this overall process based on verbal statements only, was too risky to try. I will have to settle with pawning some personal assets. If you know something better, please advise me. Matt

Tons of helpful info on here, they got me for 300$ just the other day, Im filing a complaint first thing in the morning!
it happened to me last year...this place called me up saying i had taken out a payday loan and that i had to pay it back or i would be going to prison...then they told me the loan was taken out in california but i needed to go to new york to get it taken care of...since i am a suspicious person any way i called the company they referred to in california and reported it i also notified the state of new york in the supreme court...these people that were calling me were from india or some other middle eastern country...hopefully me reporting them had something to do with them being taken out... :)
If you get any more calls from someone saying they are an attorney or wor for an attorney, ask them them the state they are licensed in and their bar number. I have done this many times and they will block my phone from calling them.

I started receiving calls today from Mark Weinberg at the Frank Shapero Law Firm in Millburn, New Jersery. They evern called my mother and brother in another state. I have research the both numbers and name and cannot find this law firm or Mark Weinberg anywhere in New Jersry. I have filed complaints with the IC3, BBC, and Federal Trade Commission.
Don't let these scammers scare you. They told me that charges had beenn filed against me and that I would be receiving papers. I asked them what court had the case been filed in but they would not answer my question. I researched the records at my county court and found there were no charges filed against me. They then blocked my phone number from calling them.
i have received the calls..omg..its crazy first they called to finalize my application and when i refused to provide my banking information they yelled at me saying just give me the information now...i said no..they hung up within a week i received a message on my home phone answering machine saying hes an attorney thats suing me for not paying back a payday loan in a timely matter...i have never received such loan ever..and told him that..he told me to shut up and listen to him...and when i refused to do so he said he will call me another time and good luck that i will be in lots of legal trouble..should i be notifying my bank of such calls..is there a high risk of my bank account getting hacked/wiped out?
