I just answer the calls, all telemarketing calls by saying "State Police barracks what's the nature of your emegency"? The next sound I hear is a distinct "click" on the other end of the line.

My boss who is a roofing contractor got a call from one of these outfits the other day looking to give him an estimate on a new roof.

I keep getting so many spam calls like this several times a day, so I think I will change my land line phone message to something like this: "Because of all the spam calls we get we are now not going to pick up ANY call we get at this number. If you wish to leave a message, we will call you back. We are also turning off the ringer, so you may have to wait a while. Sorry for the inconvenience." Then I will change my cell number and NEVER give it out to any business, only to friends and family.
Keep in mind your 'new' cell number might have problems with it-especially if it's someone's OLD number that they got rid of. Plus, changing your number isn't going to stop auto-dialers from calling you
Agreed. Since the scammers aren't actually trying to reach *you*, just a warm body with a phone line, this approach isn't going to stop spam.

I have asked to be removed from the call list many times. Today I said I would call the BBB, attorney general, etc. if they call again. The guy (Will, I think) said “let us make this easier for you. Instead of calling, we will just come to your house.” Then he proceeded to recite my home address. I told him they were not welcome on my property and he said “we will see you tonight.”
I would definitely report that to the BBB, FTC, and if they are home improvement, look to see if they are licensed via your State and complain to the licensing board.
