I have received several of those calls.  I call them back after I *67 my number just to see how they answer the phone.  I asked one of them why they try to scam people and hung up before they could respond.  I now usually get a busy signal or the phone continues to ring.  I have a special song for the next cockroach that calls me.  😎

You need to be very careful, because you might be making an international call.  Was there an international charge on your phone bill after you called them back?

If I have time, I'll have a bit of fun with the Microsoft Virus scam caller.  I'll confess to them "that I'm doing it on purpose," and ask them how they caught me.  Then I'll tell em that I'm gonna crash their computers, etc. and they get confused and hang up by then.

According to the (now defunct) yourjobisgoingtoindia.com website, most India based telemarketers are employees of the big 3 - Tata, Infosys, and Wiprospectramind.  These are the "Bangalore Body Shops," that send replacement workers to the US on H-1B visas.

Yep, Computerworld.com has several articles from at least 4 years ago about that - and the flood of Indians coming to the US has not stopped.

But long before that, Dell Computer, Microsoft, AT&T, H&R Block, and many others outsourced their "customer support" to businesses in India.  Reason they gave was they could not find enough Americans to do the work. Real reason is Americans won't work for skimpy wages listening to irate callers who barely know what they are doing and other callers who curse the workers.

You don't wanna do anything of the sort, don't so much as acknowledge 'em  - this is BAD advice. Look up "swatting" - it begins with them having you on the line so they know cops can't verify your address while the line is occupied (not all systems have the LEO break-in) & the event they've been told is happening at YOUR address. There a folks who dog-whistled callers and wound up with a SWAT team kicking down their door. In a nation where cops kill unarmed deaf guys, we're all obligated to be as careful as we can be. Annoying the annoyers ain't legal, apparently...

They aren't "stealing" anything, your own government, under Nixon (with MFN for China) Reagan, Bush et al, established - and maintained - H1b visas so our corporations never have to pay a decent wage and CEOs and investors make all the money. Besides, we' importing millions of workers from the Philippines, far more than India - and the Filipinos come from the same kind of 3rd-world criminality as do the Indians. Maybe this election cycle will solve it, but a decent economic downturn would send all the H1b's packing - as long as we're able to handle 20% unemployment...

From personal experience, the choice words [way to go ScammersNightmare!!! - the pronunciations are key] leave the Indians/Pakistanis speechless. And IF you can get connected to the USA based entity which is buying the leads from India/Pakistan, you have a potentially** viable entity to take to court, but at the very least an entity to report to the FTC. The "MasterCard priceless" moments occur when the USA based entity accepts a live transfer from India and almost immediately realizes they have been connected to someone on the National DNC Registry, who will then ask again for their written do not call policy,. and send a demand letter soon afterwards.

** Unfortunately, some of the USA-based entities do their thing on loan modifications, debt settlement, tax settlement, mortgage re-fis, and then the principals disappear w/ bags o' $, leaving their erstwhile "clients" holding  the proverbial bag. That's when you need the FTC and the DOJ's worldwide subpoena power to trace the money.

If the IRS wanted my money, and they were to hire someone to call me to get it, I'm pretty sure the interview process would require the applicant to be able to speak English.  I had loads of fun playing with one caller who kept trying to tell me that I would be applauded by the local federal law if I didn't send him money right away. He was so hard to understand that I kept asking him to repeat what he said, and the fun part, repeating back what I thought he'd said, mostly!  He kept telling me he had a badge number like that would scare me. I asked what company his badge was for because I was wearing a badge too!  It was all a gloriously fun waste of time, but I can see how some older and more easily confused people would be intimidated into complying with the requests/chance to stay out of jail.
