Telephone Collection Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
12/01/2010—The IC3 receives a high volume of complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. In these scams, a caller claims that the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check cashing services.
One of the most insidious aspects of this scam is that the callers have accurate information about the victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. The method by which the fraudsters obtained the personal information is unclear, but victims often relay that they had completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls began.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide to the victims any details of the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers threaten victims with legal actions, arrests, and in some cases physical violence if they refuse to pay. In many cases, the callers even resort to harassment of the victim’s relatives, friends, and employers.
Some fraudsters instruct victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain dollar amount, on a specific date, via prepaid visa card. The statement further declares that the victim would never dispute the debt.
These telephone calls are an attempt to obtain payment by instilling fear in the victims. Do not follow the instructions of the caller.
If you receive telephone calls such as these, you should:
■Contact your banking institutions;
■Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file;
■Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger;
■File a complaint at www.IC3.gov. - Caught| 1 replythis is from: The New New Internet Website

‘Relentless’ Crooks Pull a Fast One with Payday Loan Scam
Criminals posing as FBI representatives and lawyers are scamming consumers in a payday loan phone collection scam, according to IC3, the FBI’s cyber crime center.
In this scam, a caller claims the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and has to immediately pay up to avoid legal consequences. The callers, who say they represent the FBI, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies, claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
The fraudsters often have accurate information about the victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. IC3 said it is unclear how this information is obtained, but suspects it comes from victims’ previous online applications for other loans or credit cards.
“The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cellphone, and place of employment,” IC3 said in a news release. “They refuse to provide to the victims any details of the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers threaten victims with legal actions, arrests, and in some cases physical violence if they refuse to pay. In many cases,
the callers even resort to harassment of the victim’s relatives, friends, and employers.”
Some fraudsters instruct victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via prepaid credit card. The statement also declares the victim would never dispute the debt. - scott| 3 repliesNew # 267-217-3176. Same story. Man called with middle eastern accent regarding lawsuit. THIS PHONE # IS NOT FROM A LEGITIMATE BUSINESS-IT IS A SCAM!!!!!! They change phone #'s constantly as well as their names. They also try to disguise their voices and pretend to be other people. The callers are typically men but women are also involved in these scams. Do not give these scammers any information. Report them to the BBB, FTC, FBI, and your local authorities. There is helpful information all over the internet regarding these foreign payday loan scams-please do all the research you can!!!!
- ID ThemFolks, I want to let you know that both the FBI and FTC are actively investigating this. I work for a federal court judge. These [***] made a HUGE mistake calling me. The FBI field office for my region of my state happens to be two doors down from ours. Each call I received was recorded, and the FBI is tracing the origin of the calls. Being that I work in a federal agency, the spoof number system DOES NOT WORK. What is distressing is that some of these calls originate within the US. However, that makes it that much easier to track them..... they will be caught!!!
They screwed with the wrong girl here. The last call I got, three weeks ago, I put them on hold and got the FBI agent , who took the call. We tracked the number to Texas.
REPORT EVERY CALL TO THE AUTHORITIES, POLICE, FBI, FTC.........they are going to bust this ring!
Ding dong.......before they know it, they will be busted! - Sue HaysMoved six months ago from another town in Kentucky. Thought we were through with these jerks now they are bothering my friend and she is old and it makes her very upset. They will not call me even though I have told her to give them my phone number. Same number 972-275-6555. it's sad isn't it that if it were a legitimate bill I would have already willingly paid it.
- Found 'Em! replies to CaughtOh, yeah, already sent an email to Simon detailing what I've found. Also, I'm sending in all the info I have to Bud Hibbs, who is totally interested in what I've got. As I said in my original post, these guys aren't Indian, they are 100% American. And I have to thank a lot of people on this site for helping me with this, this is the first place I went after the first message they left me. Fortunately, they got none of my money, but browsing this site I found that a lot of people were duped by them. The thing that makes me mad is that none of these people did anything about it, even though the info was right under their noses. So, it's up to me and I am absolutely HAPPY with doing this. I don't want anyone else to be fooled by them. I want them to PAY for what they are doing. I wish I could list specifics, but as I said earlier, I don't want them to find out anything and pack their bags before something is done. But I will DEFINITELY share the whole story once I find out they've been caught. I swear I will fly at my own cost to be a witness for the plaintiff and/or prosecution. And I want to send out a special thanks to Darkstar, he/she (LOL!) helped me link them to another company that already was shut down for illegal conduct. (SSSSHHHH! Darkstar, LOL!!)
- Caught replies to Found 'Em!| 1 replyyou should also e-mail simon at DATELINE NBC and give him your info, they are doing this story so they can blow the lid off this scam, it will be very helpful, they are good people and you can trust them too, i already talked with simon and gave him my info. its up to you, i know its difficult to trust anyone after all this crap. lol.
- Found 'Em! replies to Caught| 2 repliesCaught, "Mark Grace" is from an entirely different scam. He is not an Indian. Believe me, he has called me too. He'll also use the name "Ripley Scott", trying to pretend it's a different person. YEAH RIGHT! Anyway, "Mark Grace" and his "company" will have their day soon enough because I have found their "hideout". I won't say much about what I've got, just in case they peek at this site. LOL! I think that this particular "company" uses famous people's names. Like you mentioned, "Mark Grace" is from the Chicago Cubs and "Ripley Scott" is what I believe a reference to Ridley Scott, the director of Gladiator and one of the Alien movies. And you are right, these people are also uneducated simpletons. But, they'll be able to get their GED's where they're going, right? HAHAHAHA!
- Caught replies to jjthis is from the Financial Crime Enforcements Website:
FinCEN Reminds the Public to be Wary of Fraudulent Correspondence and Phone Calls
The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) reminds the public to be alert to ongoing financial scams that attempt to solicit funds from unsuspecting victims.
FinCEN has been receiving calls and reports of financial scam attempts conducted via telephone. In this scam the caller represents himself/herself as an employee of FinCEN and asks for the victim by name, usually at the victim's home telephone number. The caller will identify an outstanding debt; this debt may be actual or bogus. The caller will provide the victim with the victim's account, Social Security or other similar number and demand that immediate payment be made. The caller's knowledge of the victim's name, telephone number, account description and personal information serve to legitimize the caller.
FinCEN also has become aware of another financial scam conducted via e-mail and telephone in which an individual claiming to be a representative of the U.S. Department of the Treasury or FinCEN informs the victim that he/she has received a large Treasury Department grant. To obtain the grant, the victim is instructed to provide bank account information and make some type of initial payment or donation.
Recipients of these calls, letters, or e-mails should not respond to such messages, and should not send money or provide any personal or confidential information. Those who believe that they are or have been a victim of a financial scam, should report this information to local, State, or Federal law enforcement authorities.
FinCEN does not send unsolicited requests and does not seek personal or financial information from members of the public. FinCEN does not have authority to freeze assets or block funds transfers. In addition, fraudulent correspondence may purport to be from an overseas office of FinCEN. FinCEN does not have any offices outside of the United States. - jj| 1 replyI got a call 0n 3/18/11 and these people told me that they were from the FINANCIAL CRIME ENFORCEMENT the call came to my direct line at work and they went off that #1 i violated the bank law and #2 collateral check law #3 theft deception they gave a case # of CH-0968 and that it was from a payday cash the phone # they called me from was 360-215-2550 and the person i spoke to was JAMES BROWN i told him I could not understand him because of him bad indian or what ever they are so they gave the phone to some other guy by the name of Adam and he went off that i owed 810.00 so i asked him to give me the phone # of the payday cash that i owed money to and he said that they will not talk to me so i just hanged up on them ..... - DSMost of the numbers if u call them back are not good. If u do get through to one if u ask to speak to any given name that person is there. I called and asked for Richard Simmons once and wow he was there and said I owed them money. Some people dont want them to call them I love it when they call me I run them around so bad that they want me dead. I figure if they waste time on me thats time that they are not targeting someone that will fall for there scam
- rundunnyrun replies to just to informIf the [***] spoke better english I would'nt have to put ?? Plus...it is "Waste" Not "Waist"... I was inquiring as to if someone else had received a phone call from a similar number. I have been trying to call them back at what sounds like the number he is saying, to give them a piece of my mind, and all I get is an out of service message. And to THOSE of you who are trying to shut these [***] down as you call them, I am not exactly jumping up and down for joy that they have my number too.
