FTC Hangs Up On “Rachel From Cardholder Services”

“At the FTC, Rachel from Cardholder Services is public enemy number one,” said FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz. “We’re cracking down on illegal robocalls by bringing law enforcement actions and pursuing technical solutions to the problem.”

I have been getting calls from these people (??) for weeks, maybe months now, and came across this  site when checking on something else.  Forunately I haven't found any 'services', yet.  The joke is on me, however, because I have found where I have been getting an obscure but believable charge now for several months by another guy on this list.  I gave myself a break by not reconciling a credit card statement for a few months.  Watch out for an ANTHONY MORRISON;  I am now paying for books every month.  He doesn't use his name, rather a mixture of alpha characters with a telephone number.  Be careful out there.

I've received this same "Credit Card Services" scam call about every two or three days for about five years now.  I block their numbers, they get new ones.  I get new phone numbers (cell and landline) and it's like they know about the new number even before my family knows.  I file complaints, which are ignored.  I ridicule, cajole, waste their time, abuse them, swear at them, doesn't matter, they just hang up and call again in a few days.

The FTC says they shut them down?  Either they're lying or they're incompetent.  Maybe both, it's hard to tell.  I just got my thrice-weekly call about five minutes ago.  I didn't see any change in the rate of calls in October or November of this year.  For crying out loud, I haven't seen any change in the rate of calls since George W. Bush was in office.

With a job that requires me to take occasional phone calls on my own phone from unknown numbers, I'm basically required to fall for it every single time, too.

Don't give them a fine, FTC - give us THEIR home phone numbers!!!

The part that I don't understand is, how do a bunch of criminals find out people's private or unlisted numbers. Like somebody or some group is purposely leaking it to them? The suspicion falls upon the phone companies.

I used to press to get me off the call list. That didn't work. Then I press 1 to tell them to remove my number. They hang up right away. The next time, I pressed 1 then I promptly told the "go to hell" and I promptly hung up while they were still talking. The next time, I plan to make up some phony stuff just to keep them on the phone and waste their time, since time is money to them. I will tell them crazy stuff like I'm glad they called because I have a big bill I have to pay with my credit call and keep fishing for information from them. Once I get their confidence, I can turn the tables on them and they won't make a dime. I'll tell them their mother should be proud.

I wish people would quit spreading the myth that reporting these calls would make a difference. I just received another call from them today after they've supposedly been stopped. If the FTC wanted, they could have locked them up for the fraud they committed. Until someone goes vigilante on one of these operations nothing is going to change.

Got yet another call today from these scammers, CID says FLORIDA. 305-368-8891. Reported them AGAIN to donotcall.gov. Lucky for me I can block whole area codes so my phone won't even ring when they call.

I almost let card services get me today. I'm one of those "poor ole senior citizens" that you read about who get sucked in. I gave far too much information before I said that I would not give permission today, but that I would call me back tomorrow. Sandra then turned me over to the "closer" or "box man," and when he asked me what was holding me back from approving this, I simply said, "Because I don't want to."  The phone went silent, then he said, :Okay, I'll give you back to Sandra to make an appointment." I think he was just taken back by the simplicity of may answer, because he didn't pursue it.  Sandra made an appointment with me to call me back tomorrow.

I've read almost all of the 6 x ? remarks from many dozens of people complaining about the phone calls, but no one says anything about how people are being taken.  Are so many of you just infuriated by unwanted phone calls, or have any of you bitten on the offers?  If no one out there has been scammed, where are the companies making their money?  I'd like some answers before my call tomorrow!

Here's a secret. You don't let them fool you or take advantage of you. The constant calls are done to force you to answer the phone. Tomorrow when they call you again, you'll know that answering them won't stop them from calling you. If you are nice to them, they'll take advantage of you. If upset them, they'll cry like a bunch of toddlers and robo call you. They depend on VOIP, and computers set up in their boiler rooms. They are some of the saddest human beings on earth and they are desperate, greedy and jealous. They and their owners brought this upon themselves, and they'll pay for it one way or the other.

Tell the scammer that the person they called has a new phone number and give them your U.S. Congressman's local office phone number.

I did get a call the other night, it had been a nice few weeks without a call.  One time this past spring I got the call and pressed 1 to talk to someone and when they came on the line all I said was sure, I'd love for you to scam me out of my money and then hung up...the woman actually called me back and chewed me out saying it wasn't a scam and how dare I hang up on her, I answered with whatever and hung up.  The phone rang again pretty much as soon as I got done putting it down and the woman gave MY home phone number to some guy in Colorado telling him that it was the number to call to have yourself removed from their calling list.  The guy apologized over and over, but I told him it wasn't his fault
