- Pat F.| 5 repliesThis is the call in number for National City's Fraud Risk Department. Fraud detection and monitoring. It's legit.
- Caller: National City Bank
- LS replies to Pat F.| 4 repliesNo it's not. I called National City Bank right after I got this call. They told me it's a scam.
- Pat F. replies to LSYou are wrong, or rather the person you spoke to is wrong, I would call again and give them the number or have the person that works there call the number or look it up in their system.
This number is used by National City and now PNC to call out and verify charges on debit and credit cards. The number that shows up on the caller ID is 269-973-4000. - Richard E.I didn't receive a call from this number, but it appeared at the top of a letter I received from National City Bank in regards to suspected fraudulent activity. This one is legit--when I called, they only asked for the last 4 digits of my card and last 4 digits of SSN.
- Caller: National City Bank
- Call type: Unwanted
- LaurenThis is legit ... I found the same number under National City Bank as one of the institutions to call for "Identity Theft" on the Visa Web site.
- Maz08 replies to LS| 2 repliesSame thing just happened to me. It's not a scam! I just got off the phone with National City and it's a legit number. It's fraud protection monitoring. They monitor your account to see if any unusuall activity is going on. I just made a larger purchase earlier this morning and they called my work to see if I was the one that authorized it. It's no charge to you. Their only looking out for the customer.
- B.J.This is legitimate. It was PNC telling me there was fraudulent activity on the card.
- Caller: PNC
- U2this is good number. But if you are not sure , call the number on your card to be connected to Fraud Risk Department. They stopped $500 unauthorized charge on my cards.
THANKS!!- Caller: PNC

- Caller: PNC
- EECSThis is absolutely a legitimate number, I was just saved of quite a few fraudulent charges on my account. But to always be sure, call the number on the back of your PNC card to be 100% sure!

- Fraud Squad| 3 repliesPart of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

- Shill Alert replies to Maz08| 1 replyThis fake "fraud alert" is being promoted by shill postings here.
- Fran K| 3 repliesI just got off the phone with PNC Bank and they said this was a SCAM. I received an automated call from 269-544-7920/PNC Bank and they left a message for me to call back at 888-347-7806 because there has been some activity on my card that looks like it is fraudulent. I varified my whole card number and they said this was going to de-activated immediately and a new card would be sent out to me. As soon as I hung up the phone, I thought this isn't right and sure enough the real PNC Bank varified it is a SCAM. The real PNC Banks number is 888-762-2265, if you have any questions.
- Mark BI just checked this number with the same concerns as everyone else on here. The trigger was 2 store purchases at nearly the same time in 2 differents states. It threw up a red flag and PNC's Fraud Dept contacted me. This is totally legit. My C.C. card was deactivated and they're sending me a new one.
- Mike replies to Shill AlertIt's not a fake fraud alert. You do not know what you are talking about.
- Mike replies to Fraud Squad| 1 replythis is false information. call pnc bank and ask them if this is a real number don't rely on this idiot. 1-888-347-7806 is listed on Visa's website as legit.
- Mike replies to Mikenone of the links you have are related to this phone number.
Crooks could be spoofing the number that shows up on the caller ID. But they can't fake the number if you call it directly. 8883477806 is legit. - Dan replies to Fran K| 2 repliessimply false. I would like this poster to come back and post that they did indeed have their card shut off and new one arrived because the fraud department sent them one. 269-544 prefix and 269-973 prefix is the fraud department (also called card loss prevention) for PNC bank.
- Dan replies to Dan| 1 replyThe problem is there are scams very similar to this. But this phone number is the legitimate one. This is what crooks prey on. This phone number is legitimate as long as you are calling it you have nothing to worry about. Now if they have that number on the caller ID don't necessarily assume it is good. Because caller ID's can be spoofed or faked. But a call to the number cannot be misdirected by crooks unless they have direct access to your phone line. In which case you have bigger problems and they have no need to hope you give them info.
- Dan replies to Danmake the customer service person actually check it. don't just rely on their initial reply because they will get so many phishing response calls they will assume it is unless they know better. (customer service reps aren't always they best trained/most knowledgable)
I'm tired of the incorrect information on this phone number. It's legit.
