PORTFOLIO RECOVERY ASSOCIATES....my (cell) phone has been ringing off the hook everyday for about a month now.  It involves a debt that I repaid about 10 years ago and its not even on my credit report anylonger.....the 1st time I did answer the phone and told them it was resolved years ago...they wanted proof...I told them to give ME PROOF that I owed this debt...somehow they could not comply?  They still call me sometimes 2X a day!  I just do not answer the phone....don't know what to do to make them stop it...except just to report it? They have so many numbers that different area codes come up...guess they think you'll slip up and answer it.

I got harrasement call from this number just at night before my exam. I habe no debt to anyone. this people are very expert to do foul things, shame on them

I recieve a call from this number from my cell phone asking for my ex- which been over 15 years... i havent spoken to this man they call my phone number... refuse to give me who they are.... i cant say anything but i dont know the guy which i don't and how did u guys get my cell number..

If you have someone who after you just to be nasty they will do such thing too you add your number to this company, i believe thats whats going on....They just dont have no life...

Just downloaded a very highly recommended call blocking app on my blackberry, they wont be bothering me anymore!

I have repeatedly ask for this in writing, as of today I have never received anything from your company in writing proving that I agreed to this debt(s). You are, hereby this written notice, required to show proof that I agreed to pay this debt(s), I.e. a signed contract with my signature, listing the person's name to whom the debt is owed, date(s) the debt occurred, addresses and phone numbers of the person to whom the debt is owed to, the amount of the debt(s). In addition, your company called me and during the conversation, I was informed that I made a payment on this dept(s). I need proof of this payment which will include a copy of the actual payment, the date the payment(s) was made, the amount of the payment(s)any and ALL information you have retained on this debt(s). This request is for any and all debt's you claim to be mine.
You are, hereby this written notice, to cease ALL phone calls regarding any debt you are claiming to be mine.
If you mail me any information, other than what I have requested and you do not send the requested information within Five (5) business days from today, 11/18/10, I will take a no response as a refusal to verify and explain this debt(s).

This is what I have sent. Pay close attention to the "payment" they said I made. NOW I understand why they claim I made a payment, - this started a new date for statutes of limitation. Is this illegal for them to do this?

This is a number for Portfolio Recovery, my cell shows record that it has called me on 11/16/10 at 9:29am.

I also have record of rcving phone calls from 443-313-1380, 620-662-8870, 731-984-7690, 757-864-0020, 404-592-4171.  They are attempting to collect a debt owed on a cell phone that's bill is over 10-12 years old.  Which is WELL past the SOL.

I'm emailing, mailing them, and making a copy of information for my records.  If after that doesn't work, I'm reporting them to the MN Attorney General's office.

Get with these guys they have PR against the wall!!   CHECK THIS OUT!

I've been getting calls from this number, from other 205 numbers, 412, etc.  About eight different numbers, over and over again.  They call during work so I don't answer it and they don't leave messages.  This went on for some time.  I don't owe money to anyone.  One day, I went out to my car at lunch and called every single one of those numbers (with a script).  My tone of voice is angry and confrontational.  I don't say hello, I don't identify myself.

"Why do you call this number and never leave a message?"

They of course want my name and phone number.  They aren't getting my name and phone number.  

"You can see my phone number on your display.  You call me, you tell me who I am and why you're calling me."

Depending on the number, one person tells me they're trying to reach someone completely different, Ryan somebody, and they'll take me off their list.  Another person obligingly reads my phone number back to me.  The rest refused to read my number, and no one would tell me why they were calling that phone number.  One of them hung up on me.

So I thank them, angrily, and tell them I needed to call them all at least once SO I COULD REPORT THEM.  Yes, by that time I was shouting and I wasn't faking anything because they are slimy idiots, all of them.  I have my number registered on donotcall.gov.

Since that day, I haven't received a single phone call.  Based on the fact that they're idiots, there's no way to tell if it'll stick.  But that was over a month ago and a month of silence is a good thing.
