where do these people get our phone numbers?

I got a call that I could be going to bout for check or bank fraud, and that my employer would be contacted if I did not call them back by the end of the business day today. I did answer because it said "Unavailable" on the caller id. This sound like a big scam to me.

These idiots called me today and left a voice mail stating they were calling about a check fraud or bank fraud and I needed to call them back by the end of the day.  I knew it was probably just some stupid collection agency trying to use a scare tactic but I was curious so I called them back.  At first when I called and I told them my name they asked if my social ended in 1679 and I told them No.....She then said "We don't have you in our system ..goodbye" and hung up.  Well, I knew that was crap because obviously I was in their system because they called me.  So, I call back and speak to another person and she asks for my last 4 digits of my social which I told her she should have it in her system if I'm in her system and she verified my last 4 digits.  She then proceeds to tell me they are calling about a loan from a Loan Mart from back in 2002 (which I have no idea about) saying that the debt was over $2100.  First of all, I don't remember any loan at Loan Mart ....sure don't remember getting a loan for over 2,000 and even if I had...that's 12 years ago!!  I tell her I don't have any knowledge of this and even if it was legit the Statue Of Limitations in my state for a contractual agreement is 5 years.  She then went on a small rant about FDCPA and if I would know my law I'd know that's not true (which I laughed at because I myself have taught FDCPA classes) ....I then tell HER about FDCPA and how their company had already violated FDCPA several times....1st, my leaving the message they did on my voice mail ...2nd, for not stating the mini miranda to me (This is an attempt to collect a debt, any information obtained will be used for that purpose) WHICH SHE DID NOT STATE.  I laughed at her and told her I'm quite positive of the laws in my state and if they wanted to waste their money by filing a frivolous lawsuit on a time barred debt then by all means go right ahead but as soon I get the court papers I will immediately file a motion with the courts on my behalf and ask the judge to dismiss the case with prejudice and seek any time taken from work to be compensated.  She then hung up on me.  Don't pay these idiots a dime ...I'm going to look for their address and send them a cease and desist letter (send it certified)

Looks like whoever this is was quiet for a while, but is back at it again because I got the exact same call today. Just laughed and hung up!  

Received same message on recorder.  Just deleted it.  Knew it was a scam.

just got a called from the 214-504-2986 and a recorder can on as lukes john ,but i called before and changed my voice and they said they didnt called but they would take my number off the list why don,t someone stop these people from calling working people numbers trying to get money out of them do they have other things to do my goodness get A LIFE.....

I did not answer this call as it read out of area but they left a message. The name they stated I couldn't understand but it wasn't my name. Left a message about bank fraud and contacting employer. I need to contact them before the end of the day. I look up the number and found this site with the experiences others had. I can't understand why this type of calling can't be stopped. I have signed up on the "Do not call" site but still get numerous unwanted telephone calls.

I just got a call with the same message. From everything I've seen it's a scam, but it's worrisome. Accusing someone of bank fraud is serious and then threatening legal action takes it to a whole separate level.

We got a call on other phone (which we have had for 6yrs) for a Brandy Taylor who we don't know.  Have told these co's it isn't her # but they keep calling. I have list of 5 #'s that wont stop.

Got the same call today. Caller ID showed "unknown". They said I owe First USA Bank $12,000 and they were Global Aquisition, a collection agency. They claimed I entered into an agreement in 2006. I have no debt, never have. Thought this could be identity theft. After speaking to the police, I learned I needed the address of the bank. When calling them back, they answered with a hello and a name, no line of "this is an attempt to collect on a debt" the way a legit collections agency does. They repeatedly told me my case has already gone to legal and the company has proof and good legal defense and I could settle for $8000, and it would be in my best interest to do so because I would spend more than that on legal fees.  They could not provide me with an address and hung up on me FOUR times! No legit agency would do that if they were trying to collect money. Scarey part was they had the last four of my ssn!

Just received call and call ID had MY number as the caller!  How did they do this???  They left a message for a distant relative we haven't been in contact with for years.  Same bs about check fraud and employer and "until the end of the day" to return call.

Yep, same here. Received a call from 214-504-2986. I didn't see the call and it went to voice mail. The message said something about check fraud and I had until the end of business today...etc... I called back (on a masked line). They wanted my name, etc. I said before I give you anything I need YOUR information, location, IRS TAX ID #, etc... she hung up.... SCAM.

constant calls from 214-504-2986 stating Im wanted for check fraud and they will contact my employer. lucky for me , checks are out dated and I know for a fact that I have not written any bad checks. This has to be a scam. If for some reason someone else is writing bad checks in my name I am not worried as I sure can prove it is not me. I problem is it is becoming imbarrassing to me because they are now calling family members of mine in another state. I hope my family and friends know I would not be committing a crime here. I explained that they should ignore but it sounds so real and I can hear the concern in there voice. How do I make this go away?

I received a call from 214-504-2986.  They asked for my daughter's ex-husband (divorced 4 years) who never had my number.  They said he was guilty of check fraud.  He does not even have a checking account.

Even if her ex husband WAS guilty of check fraud, they aren't allowed to discuss that with you.  This company is breaking FDCPA policy left and right.  I am actively looking into this so called "company" and I assure you I'm not just a deadbeat debtor...I will locate them ...and when I do ...they are going to wish they had never called me.  This isn't a threat but I assure you they will be in alot of legal trouble!  I make it a mission to find idiot scums like this and pursue them so others such as yourself don't have to deal with these types of harassing phone calls and unethical collection practices

I've done more checking in on this "so called company" and it appears that the phone number is coming from the Dallas, TX area  ...possibly around Halifax St & Mockingbird Lane.  There are some warehouse looking buildings around there but I'm still doing my research.  I will find them!  

Found a possible address for them ........in McKinney, TX.   Still researching

got the same call I think we should all call them back about thirty times a day for a while and harass them until they give up

I just got a call from 214-504-2986 which is completely bogus. They want me to call by the end of the day about a claim of bank or check fraud and something about calling my employer. They have also sent quite a few emails to an email account I very rarely use and don't give out. This is illegal and needs to stop.

Just got a call from 214-504-2986 claiming I had committed check or bank fraud. called back and was hung up on, called again and confronted them about their illegal practices and they refused to let me speak to "their" supervisor and then hung up on me again.
