    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    •Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    Same message about bank fraud except they were calling for my brother in law whom has never lived with me and has never been linked to my number. So I googled the # and found this site. Figured it was a scam.

    People should never return these kinds of calls. They are phishing calls, they want to make sure that whatever information they have about you is accurate. These are CROOKS period. I have gotten a call from this outfit in Dallas, and one that was from Wyoming and in that vm they left because I don't answer the phone if I don't know the number, the message stated a case # so I called the District Court in Wyoming to verify the case number they left on the voice mail and it was a bogus case #. I called the sheriff's office as to see if there were a request for them to serve me and they also said the case number was bogus. I did make the mistake of calling the number in Wyoming back but the second I heard an outgoing recorded message I hung up. I then called Spring and had them block the number after I told them I suspected this company was using the phone in a phishing scheme. My hunch is the escort service affiliated with the Dallas phishing scheme is a front for some kind of identity theft ring.

    I receive calls from 214-504-2986. National and state Do Not Call registries are a joke. The only way to put a permanent end to scam phone calls is to register to vote and vote all incumbents, federal, state, and local out of office, stop drinking the swill our two party system forces down our throats and elect ordinary people to office. By ordinary I do not mean lawyers, the wealthy, professional business people, people whose only greedy interest is themselves. Once our government is actually in the hands of "We the People" we can put scam artists, telemarketers, and fraudulent debt collectors like 214-504-2986 out of business and in prison where they belong. Twenty years behind bars and daily anal exams from their fellow inmates is the least scammers like 214-504-2986 deserve.

    I have gotten a call from this number twice in the past 2 weeks for a William Johnson saying he has been accused of check fraud - I've called it back both times to inform them that William Johnson is deceased & has been since 1995.  I was married to William & know that he never wrote any bad checks - not even sure how they got my CELL phone number since I didn't even have this phone number in 1995, hec I didn't even have a cell phone - UGH!!!!  They have assured me both times that they would take my number off the list & it could take up to 30 days to do so....guess we will see if that happens!!!!

    Was told to call about check fraud for my uncle. I live 4,000 miles away from him and was worried this was legit. I called my aunt and made sure there wasn't anything going on. Then decided to search the number and name. Relieved that it wasn't true

    This number has called my cell and my sister in law's home phone looking for my husband saying the same thing about being questioned for check/bank fraud. When I called I asked for information and the lady kept telling me to have my husband call. I told her that if she couldn't find him in the system with the information I gave her, she wouldn't find him with any other information. I only gave her his name. She said "it must be a mistake because we can't find him in the system". It's not a mistake, they are the ones committing the fraud. How they got my number or my sister in law's number is beyond me. People, this is a SCAM!!

    I have recieved two calls from whoever and this is the # they give me to call back.  The recorded message for the incoming call to my phone says I have committed bank fraud by writting bad checks and they need to hear from me by close of bussiness the day of the call.  The funny part here is they ask for someone else, not me.  I had some fun with it and called back and gave my name, well the name of the individual they claim commited bank fraud who is actually believe it or not...my wifes ex-husband.  These frickin "IDIOTS"...I talked to a man for about 30 seconds then I told them I was not who the message said they were looking for and they were all over the internet as scumbag liars, the guy said anyone can say what they want on the internet, lol...I laughed and had a few choice words for the [***] and he hung up on me...ROFLMAO!!!...hope I get another call so I can have some more fun, this time I will speak some jibberish(another "fake" language) oh life is good!!!

    Just called 214-504-2986. Told lady that I'm getting calls for someone else. She asked if I'm listed as a contact number. I said no. She said my number will be deleted from their list. It can take 30 days.
    Call said something about check fraud. Said would contact employer. Seems a breach of privacy. They call me...About someone else. Must be a SCAM. Obviously not a reputable company.
