- Jayme| 1 replyA woman named Casey Black from the "Litigation Department" called and left a message for my client claiming there was a civil case pending against him. She left him a case number to reference. He did not call back and instead called me. I returned the call and as soon as I identified myself as an attorney, she hung up the phone. I tried again and the phone was answered and immediately hung up. Every subsequent call has been directed to a voice mail with no identifing information as to where and for what company she works with.
- GreggInvestigator from Worlwide Investigations called and said that a civil suit(gave me the case number)was being filed against me by an attorney he claimed was a Robert Goldstein. He said I needed to call 216-373-1460 and speak to the head investigator about this. When asked what would happen if I did not call, he said that a warrent would be issued for my arrest. I said that this is a scam and he vehemently said it was not.
I hung up and called the local police and gave them the number and details. They said that any civil action would be sent in the mail or in person, not on the phone and to ignore this call.- Caller: Worldwide Investigation

- Squash scamsI had a terrible day today due to the call from 216-393-9240 saying something about getting a criminal warrant for arrest. Like so many posts here and other 216-393-xxxx calls, they have the WRONG PERSON!!! I called my local police department and an officer came to my home to listen to the message. He said the message did not violate any crminal laws but he recommened that I file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I encourage all of you to do the same. So far I am the first person who has ever complained about the company at BBB. You can logon to www.cleveland.bbb.org and search for the Firm "Robert Goldstein & Associates". They are based in 6100 Oaktree Blvd., Independence, OH 44131. By the way, the officer also educated me that the collection agency can't just get a warrant for criminal arrest. They need to first establish the case in the civil court. A judge will not sign an arrest warrant that easily.
The officer also mentioned that I may want to call back and tell them that they have the wrong person. I called and tried to explained that I am not the person they are looking for. The conversation became heated and a string of profanities came from the "receptionist". I tried calling back and asked to leave a voice mail for Robert Goldstein, but the receptionist blurted another string of profanities before hanging up on me and threatened legal action if I ever called back. Funny isn't it. At least I gave them a dose of their own medicine; repeated unwanted phone calls.
If you are frustrated like me. Contact BBB and complaint. Those folks need to learn to do their homework before randomly fishing for names.

- Fran| 1 replyA man called and he said his name was Nick Lyons (Claim Summon and Warranty) on 23 August 2007 stating that I owe First USA Bank and they are going to sue me. He said that the police officer is going to bring a summon to my door.

- Shingleton replies to JaymeJust wanted to let you know that I received a phone call from this same company and same person. They advised me that there was a civil case against me that was going to become criminal if I did not call back. I called back and got a recording. They also gave me a case number. I would like all information you find out about this company, for I feel the phone calls will continue. Thanks for posting this, cause I was terrified, for my job is in the medical field and this is a threat on my job.
- ShingletonJust wanted to update you guys. I called the number back and the doc # and then the ultimite question...my social security number. When I refused til they told me the name of the company and info, the lady became very rude and told me good luck and hung up on me. She gave me a POB number that I have never had. I called back and she answered again and hung up on me. The message on the answering machine that is suppose to be her office has the TV running in the background and children playing. She has picked the wrong one to scam..I work closely with the sheriff's dept, police department here and other higher ups. I know they check this site, so watch out.
- twilatThe message was for a person not living at this household and that we've never heard of. It said there was a civil suit being filed against her, and she had to call and make an appearance. I called to say they've got the wrong number. She asked me for the docket number. I gave it to her and she said it was incorrect. Their docket numbers had numbers and letters. I told her it was not incorrect. I listened to the message several times and it was correct. She was quite bitchy and hung up.

- tessaI was called yesterday at work, on my personal cell and they even called my ex-husband's wife stating they were bringing criminal charges against me for a reposessed car back in 1996 - wasn't even my car. Said I had 24 hours to let them know if I was going to pay or they were turning it over to prosecute. I talked to my attorney today and he advised me to contact the US Attorney General, Fair Debt Collections division and report that they are threatening me. What they are doing is illegal

They almost had me and I was going to give my info but when they refused to send me in writing (via email) what I was agreeing to, I said no. THey threatened me and then when I called back to tell them to not call me again, they became rude when I confronted them. I will file a complaint

- hollye| 1 replyI received a message from this company as well - from "special investigator" Cassandra Bowman, saying that I was named as a respondant and must appear in court (although which court was never specified!). If I did not, further litigation would be filed against me. I was provided with a case number. When I called back (literally about 60 seconds after the message was left) Ms. Bowman had mysteriously left the office. The person I spoke to had a name that was not mine associated with the case, and I did not tell him my name. After I hung up I was concerned that this was a scam of some sort, though, and did a google search on the phone number and found this site. I called my local police department. The dispatcher spoke to his sergeant and advised me to call the NY state attorney general's office. he said that they would collect complaintants names and then collectively go after whoever these people are.
- ec replies to hollyeThese calls are from a scam operation in Georgia using the name CMC Recovery. They also masquerade as working for the a law firm called "Robert Goldstein & Associates" and many other aliases. As consumer law expert Bud Hibbs notes, there is no such attorney Robert Goldstein & Associates. These people are not only breaking federal debt collection laws, they're breaking other laws by impersonating law enforcement officials, impersonating an attorneys, trying to extort money, etc.) They are scam artists and you should NEVER give them any information about yourself. Ignore their calls and report them to authorities. Here's Bud Hibbs' advice on dealing with the CMC/Robert Goldstein:
http://www.budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/cmc_recovery_bud.htm
Remember, the only difference between these CMC/Goldstein callers and thugs on the street is that they mug people over the phone.
I suggest you and everyone else who's received these calls contact your local police, your local FBI office, and that you file a complaint online with the Federal Communications Commission at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints.html (The FCC enforces the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act.) Also, since this batch of calls originate in Ohio, so you should file a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General by calling 877-244-6446 or going online to http://www.ag.state.oh.us/citizen/consumer/complaints.asp
For those who file a complaint with the authorities, I suggest giving them the weblinks to the several message threads on 800notes.com that concern abuse in the 216 area code by this same group of scam artists (CMC Recovery Services, Inc./a.k.a. Robert Goldstein & Associates). Here are the weblinks:
