@LH, there are only two things that I've found to be marginally effective:
    1. Unless you both recognize the calling number AND want to talk to that person/company, simply don't answer the phone. Let the answering machine pick up. If it is truly important (rare, but it happens), they WILL leave a message. If they don't leave a message, well, it wasn't important, was it?
    2. For really persistent callers, see if your phone company offers "selective call rejection". This is where you enter numbers into a "blacklist" and when that number calls again, they get a message that "this number is not accepting calls at this time" (or something similar) and your phone NEVER RINGS. This works until they change their number, which scammers like this do about once a year.

Got a call from this number.  Listed as CNAM on Caller ID.  Answered and the person on the line said they were calling in regards to the Tennessee State Police department, asking to speak to the owners of the house.  Asked them to take a message and they said "We'll call back later" and they hung up on me.

    Yeah...right.

Well JoJo, get this -- I never got a solicitation call on my cell phone until I put it on the no-call list.  Go figure.  I contacted them with this and have not heard.  Surprised?  No.

Prolly just broke the law myself...sent a message to dipfees.com as a rep of the ftc saying to consider themselves warned, we were very close to prosecution of their operation. If they can break the law why can't I?

    Infuriated
These ridiculous [***] are trying to infuriate people.  Not only do they not take you off of their calling list they intentionally try to antagonize you on the phone.  I pressed the button acting like I was interested in consolidating my credit cards so as to talk to a "real" person hoping to get off of the calling list and the woman hung up on me.  WITCH!  They call several time a week.  They are so stupid because if they did any checking they would know that we do not owe ANY money on our credit card because we pay it off every month.  Definitely a scam.  There has to be something that can be done.  What kind of loser has a job like theirs?

If you answer and press any number or talk to anyone, no matter what you tell them, you will be marked as a "live person" with a "good number" and you will be put on a list that is sold to more companies.  Same goes for "unsubscribing" to emails... never do it.  As soon as you do, you are marked as a "good email address" and you go on a list and get sold to a ton of other people who will start sending you email spam.  The best thing to do is completely ignore them.  Do not respond, do not unsubscribe, do not answer, do not talk to anyone and do not press a number.  Just put them in your phone as "Do Not Answer - Scam" and keep adding to that same contact when you get a call from another number.

Sounds like a good idea, but as soon as you do, they will collect all the email addresses and add them to a list and sell them to spammers.  Seriously, just ignore them.
