Same happened to me. Got an email from Alan Fisher saying he was deaf and couldn't come see the furniture. He sent me a check for 2,250 and I called the bank and also found this forum. THANK GOD. The furniture I was selling cost 150 bucks and when I got this check it just seemed really strange.

    Thanks for your help guys!

Thanks for the heads up!!  I posted an item for sale and got this in response from "John Alan" johnalan0404@wikizplc.com:

    Hello,
Thanks for getting back to me, just so you know I'm okay with the condition and the price, I'm ready for its purchase and I'm willing to add an extra $20 so as to have it kept in my favor. My form of payment will be by Check and it will be send via UPS 1-2days delivery. I'll be responsible for the pick-up and the movers/pick up money will be included in your payment so as to avoid delay and to enable movers to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up at your location after the check is been cashed as I have other properties to be moved alongside yours. I would have really love to come for the viewing but due to my work frame it just won't fit in my schedule but more pictures will be deeply appreciated. Kindly get back to me with your full name, address, your cell and land line so as to make out the payment to you ASAP, Many thanks

    John

I had the exact email etc. from Eva Knight.  I got the check in the mail and realized instantly something was up.  I called the bank listed to verify the account.  It did not exist.  I sent the check (voided) to the bank listed with other information and reported the incident to the FTC.

By the way- the person that was supposed to pick up my item (the mover).  She is a real person and I was able to google her phone number and address- in the town they had listed.  I wonder if they are using are phone numbers and addresses as a scape goat in their plans.

Received the same message from Eva-I don't get the point of it, but it is creepy...and disappointing when you're honestly trying to sell furniture. People can be so terrible sometimes.

Alan Fisher strikes again!  He just did the exact same thing to be.  He was deaf, delete the listing, check coming overnight!  He makes me sick!  Can we arrest this guy?

I got the same thing from Alan Fisher.  Too bad I found this too late.  Can someone please let me know if I should worry about giving out my personal information?  I am moving out of this home address I gave, but I am worried for the people who still live here.

Just got the same email from Alan Fischer, thank goodness I googled the email address and for all of these posts.  It's sad how scammers try to take advantage of people's sympathy (deaf/disabled) to scam them!

Re: Alan Fisher response - also has email of fvf53vds@operamail.com and alanissfisher@wikizplc.com
This was in response to our furniture add - his email appeared fishy to me also  I googled his name. This is the best website and I think anyone selling anything needs to use this.    They used the same script for me also, about being deaf, out of the area, will send check FED EX next day, and to please pull the item from Craigs list because they really want it.  I wish they would catch these scammers!

I just got this same email within 10 minutes of posting a couch on craigslist. I knew it was a scam when I read it - send the money by check - I'm deaf but I need all your phone numbers. I wrote back saying I only dealt with cash. Eva Knight was the name the person used.

I had / am having an interaction now with this Eva Knight.  Same emails as shared on this blog.  However, I guess I did not catch on as fast.  I actually have a check in hand that was supposedly sent from this Eva Knight, even though the FedEx package came from a Linda Crawford in Arkansas and Eva gave a name of a mover "Tammy something" out of Florida.  I am going to tear up the check and take pictures and send the remnants back to the address it came from, I guess I have learned my lesson from Craigs List.

    I got the same thing.

She claims to be deaf so you won't ask for her phone number and so you'll assume she's vulnerable and trust her. She next day FedEx's you a check from Linda Crawford for way more than the amount of the item ($2700 for my $450 sale item). The check is bogus made out by M Ali and Sons. She makes continual reference to honesty and patience. It's clever but very sketchy. If you transfer them the money, you're [***]. Just wait for the check to clear any time something like this happens before you act. Don't pay attention to impatience on the part of buyers. If you ask them for contact details and they are normal, legitimate people, they would not give you any issues. Be careful of things like this.

Hi Just got the exact email from Eva Knight.

It is already too late, since I replied back and included my contact information, before googling her. I should have run a little check before doing so.

Right now what looks very suspicious to me, is that there is a lot of people getting the same reply from different "potential buyers" but I am still fairly confused about what the scam is. Seems like people are getting the check for the amount they are selling their items for and not cashing them. Seems like some people are just getting much higher amounts than what they requested in the first place. Which in that case, I would totally see the shaddyness and doubts of legitimacy. But bhow many of you are getting checks for the right amount? If I get the check for the amount I am asking for those specific items, and her name is in the check I will defenetely cash it. It someone else's name appears, will defenetely take it to the police.

EVA KNIGHT! Thanks for posting this name as a scam. I was paranoid when I read the email which was identical to what SAR received.

Same story exactly. It didn't sound right to me, so I googled the emails and found these posts. She initially contacted me with wst78u2q@operamail.com to find out if the furniture was still available.

I got the same message from Alan Fischer....My response....Im so glad you are interested in the purchase.  I will glady accept your check, via UPS next day delivery, but first I will need your full name, address, cell and land line phone number, your bank name and location, account number and finally your social security number so when I receive your check from UPS...I know exactly how to tell the police to find you.  Thank you and have a nice day!!!
