I guess the gassy noises are better than the animal sounds other people were posting about on here. They just hung up on me when I answered.

They kept calling us as well - almost 3 or 4 times per week.  (PIC) I finally picked up and asked the person on the line to hold as there was someone at the door.  I then put the call on our speaker-phone and went about my business.  It took a full 4 minutes for them to finally hang up.  I always do this with persistant unwanted callers and it works quite well.  We also use the "please hold on for a moment as I have another call coming in" gag and it works good as well as do a myriad of other gags.  Our record for a solicitor on hold is 13 minutes prior to hanging up.

This number was listed on my phone (no message) when I arrived home and after picking up another phone book lying on the ground next to my rural mailbox.  This was the fourth phone book "delivered" this year!
Now, I have a number to call these idiots and complain, that they not only liter the environment, but have become obsolete.  Who uses phone books?
To those defending this "legitimate company", legitimate ones leave messages identifying who and what business they represent, along with a call back number.

I just sent them a message!
I sent them a pc-fax consisting of 50 pages (word doc) that was in 72 pitch font stating: DO NOT CALL (and my #) over & over again.
I sent this to: 610-238-6650 -Fax
And in case they didn't get the message...I also sent the same thing to the parent company!
    Parent: 831-333-0110 -Fax
Just maybe they will get the hint if everyone does this!!

I got a call from 303-280-8689 but the caller did not leave a message.  If, in fact, they are calling to confirm delivery of a phone book, they wouldn't have known my home address (my directory listing only shows my  city) to confirm any delivery.  I wouldn't be surprised if the call is simply to confirm a working tel. no. and use it to create a telephone directory that they can resell.  I have Call Screen and blocked the number.

2009 11 24 15:11 CST Picked up after the first ring and announced myself, adding "How may I help you?"  Caller did not speak but disconnected.  There is a Broomfield County in Colorado but apparently this was not a call from the county offices.

Recently received a Spanish-language edition of Verizon Yellow Pages.  It appears these people are checking to see if the homeless people hired to deliver them actually did so, and they are charging Verizon per completed call.  It slows them down to actually talk to somebody so the call center is just hanging up on nine out of ten calls in order to get a bigger check from Verizon.  So in addition to what you've already done, you might call your local Verizon business office and let them know they are getting ripped off.

Hopefully the Happy Valley folks check back on their posts from time to time and may read this.  The reason for all the hangups is because the phone company which is paying them has a counter that knows when a call is "completed", and they pay only for completed calls.  So the telecenter hangs up on at least two-thirds of the outbound calls because they can triple their revenues that way.  And the reason some calls are left "open" is because they need to increase the length of their average call to hide all the hangups.  If you don't have an answering machine or voice mail, and don't pick up the phone in person, then the call is not completed and they don't get paid for it.  Rather than annoying the advertisers, you need to provide a link to these reports to the audit department of the phone company (TelUS, Verizon, whomever).  When they find out how many hangups are occuring, maybe they will realize the 37 cents they are paying for the delivery of the book is cheaper than the fraudulent calls and discontinue the process.

    Legit? replies to concerned
In the circumstances you have described, the call probably is legitimate.  Unfortunately these people have more than one client so the calls others are receiving from this same number may not be.

Calling somebody to "confirm delivery of a phone book" is the most ridiculous (and no doubt lie) reason for calling somebody.  Printing phone books and selling ads is just a money-making scheme with minimal value to the consumer.

Calling people randomly to ask whether they've received the phone book is just a gimmick the printers of the book use to justify the money they charge advertisers.  Two or three times a year these phone books land on my front walkway.  And guess what, they don't even make it inside the house.  I take the phonebook still wrapped in its plastic bag, and THROW it in the RECYCLING DUMPSTER.

So you see companies and advertisers that pay great sums of money to place ads in these bogus phonebooks, you wasted your money. The people who print these books and the telemarketers who seek to build a foundation of lies by claiming people actually use these books, they are all laughing to the bank.  What's really sad is that so many trees are cut down and turned to pulp to supply the paper for these worthless telephone directors that often just end up in dumpsters and landfill.

Got an automated call from them today to verify the Yellow Pages delivery. I really don't blame them, how else would they know if the delivery company that they contracted is actually doing their job, who calls to complain that they didn't get it?

I don't care if they are checking up on phone book delivery or not - have a 100 year old father that gets really upset because we will not answer phone after checking caller id.   Stop it NOW!
