I work for the IRS. I do occasionally call people, when I do caller ID NEVER identifies me as Internal Revenue Service NOR does it display my whole number. It's a safety issue, it keeps me safe from angry taxpayers. I already get enough threatening letters, I don't need to add threatening phone calls to that pile.

I got cold-called by this number. Now I have to report it.

This is a scam number. Claims to be with the IRS. It’s a lie.

This is not a scam. It's an advocate for the IRS. If you filed an appeal on taxes that the IRS says you owe a person from this number will call you.

Careful readers of this thread will soon recognize that there are some complaints about the number, and other statements that the number is legitimate.

To protect yourself, if you get a call from this number, verify it is from the REAL IRS by checking with your local IRS office.

Has been calling me at work for days, leaving messages about a tax refund.  They finally got me on the phone today, were extremely fishy and weird, claimed to have spoken to me about this a few weeks ago, then claimed they had spoken to my wife (all untrue.)  Very gruff and pushy, demanding that I give them information so that they can issue me a refund.  Total scam.

THe person that called stated her name was Yalonda Grant and she was from the IRS. The IRS does not call people, they only correspond by mail. Yalonda was a scammer and I hung up on her and told her not to call again.
