After repeated calls I answered. Would not tell me who or why they were calling, but he expected me to verify my id by giving him my SS#! Dumber than he sounds. Real collection agencies will send something in the mail first. Scammer. Never would say what they wanted.

Malcolm S. Gerald and Associates, Inc is the company this number belongs to. They called me today, AT WORK, trying to collect a debt that is over 10 years old. They wanted me to "verify" my social security number and birth date over the phone, and I told them I do not give out such personal information over the phone to unknown callers. I informed them any debt collection needed to be done by mail and I would not pay anything over the phone. They argued with me, but I just ignored them. They ended up hanging up on me. Too bad I cannot block them from my office phone.

Actually, I was told by my financial advisor that you should pull ONE credit report from Experian during the year, wait a few months, pull ONE from Transunion, wait a few months and pull one from from Equifax. Doing this on a continual basis allows you to get ONE FREE REPORT from EACH agency per year, which you are allowed. Mark your calendars thusly. The fed says otherwise, but I do as my financial coach has advised me, and she hasn't steered me wrong yet! I say, yes, contact them individually.

I keep receiving a call from this number,312-922-6500.  I do not answer my cell phone at work if I don't know the number.  They finally left a message for someone who is not me with a case number.  They said they were calling from an attorney's office and that if I didn't call this number back they would send someone to my house this afternoon with legal papers.  They left the number to call them back 714-510-3867.  I called the number and a man answered just saying "Hello" to which I responded, "Who is this?"  he mumbled some name I could not understand.  I preceded to tell him that someone keeps calling me from this number for a person that is not me.  He asked for a case number which I gave him and after a pause he hung up.  I called the number back again and someone answered without saying anything but immediately hung up.  I have no outstanding debts at all so this is obviously some time of scam....BEWARE!

I wish this asshat would actually answer the phone so I can talk to them. I want to find out what 'debt' they are calling about because if it is mine, then they will be hearing from my attorney as I am in bankruptcy and all of my creditors have received their notice.

Please answer next time you call. Please. I want to sic my attorney on you in the worst way possible. Might as well get my moneys worth.

Thanks for sharing the info.  They have been calling my land line for months several time a day.  I never answer numbers I don't recognize.  I had a feeling it was collection calls.  They are very persistent .  The problem is my husband and I owe no one and haven't for at least 10 to 15 years.   We have no credit cards, no loans any other debts.  We even paid off the house last years. There is absolutely no reason for them to be calling.

Lots of complaints on the internet about these crooks.  You have the beginnings of a nice FDCPA lawsuit.  They should have sent you a letter by now.

    http://www.msgerald.com/contact.php

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

This is a collection agency....but they are representing themselves as LAWYERS which is against the law,,,,and that is ILLEGAL.... under 15  U.S. Code 1692e.....False or Misleading representations.....
    Amendments

1996—Par. (11). Pub. L. 104–208 amended par. (11) generally. Prior to amendment, par. (11) read as follows: “Except as otherwise provided for communications to acquire location information under section 1692b of this title, the failure to disclose clearly in all communications made to collect a debt or to obtain information about a consumer, that the debt collector is attempting to collect a debt and that any information obtained will be used for that purpose.

    Effective Date of 1996 Amendment

    Pub. L. 104–208, div. A, title II, § 2305(b), Sept. 30, 1996, 110 Stat. 3009–425, provided that:
“The amendment made by subsection (a) [amending this section] shall take effect 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act [Sept. 30, 1996] and shall apply to all communications made after that date of enactment.”
When they called me....first off they didn't quite have my name correct....when I asked what this was about...the lady said that she was recording the phone call  an that she WAS with a LAWYERS OFFICE...an that she couldn't tell me what it was about until I confirmed her information....she said she had my social security number...which she wanted me to GIVE her in order to confirm it was correct..which of course I didn't give her...she also said well you MAY have lived at this address in the past...an started to say an address so I hung up....BY LAW THEY HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT THEY ARE A COLLECTION AGENCY...they are NOT allowed to represent themselves as lawyers....when they are not...land they HAVE TO TELL YOU WHAT THE CALL IS ABOUT...so...anyways..Malcolm S. Gerald and Associates, Inc.

no message, no name on caller id, new cell # must have belonged to a deadbeat based on the number of unwanted calls despite a do not call list.

Left a threatening message about collecting on a debt. Must have purchased something very old because my credit report is squeaky clean.

Don't deal with people like this, only pay your original creditors.

Yes, they're a debt collection agency.  However I didn't have as bad of a time talking with them.  It was about my student loans.  I settled with them and it's done.
