- FabMalcolm S Gerald and Associates keeps on calling but I only answer the phone for calls I know. Thanks caller ID. They can keep on wasting their resources calling my number. I don't know what they want and I don't care. They can write me a letter since I need toilet paper. Please don't answer calls if you don't know who the caller is and soon they would be out of business.

- papano less than thirteen calls in last seven days.will not leave message or answer any questions as to who or why they are calling. Why should I pay my attorney when I already pay taxes that pay the state attorney general? after the last counter-productive call about two hours ago, I blocked their number. If this joker wants war--I'll brake the arrow!they have been told time and time again that the person they seek is not here, yet they continue to call,.Would the FTC consider this harassment or just blatant stupidity.

- GennaRepeatedly received calls from Gerald M. asking for different names every time. These calls are made always before 8am and after 9pm and exclusively on the Weekends and major holidays! This must be stopped!!!
- annoyedThey call my in laws house every single day and I never answer but one day my sister in law was over and she looked at the caller id too quickly and thought it was a local number and answered. Idk who they were looking for but it wasn't for here. And they've had that number for over 10 yrs. I'm gonna do the suggestion and just answer the phone and leave it on. When I worked as a telemarketer, we couldn't hang up on potential customers even if they didn't say anything..
And if u go to their website, they say they employ 60 people in pakistan and more in chicago. Screw that. I hate it when they hire overseas people to do their dirty work. They will never get my acct info! - sgdYes I also was called by this company. they just hang. so I called them back. they are looking for Katrina Moss. they really need to check thier info and make sure they are calling the correct person. Katrin must owe losts of people because I have had many collection people calling my number.

- DocActually Howdee up there really does not know what he is talking about. Depending on what the creditors do to defame your name in the community, they are also LIBLE! Lible. meaning DEFAMATION! Cannot go into details but this is actually true. Howdee better learn what these words actually mean before going after people for spelling them wrong. Yes, the person above did mean LIABLE in the way he used it, but you have to have no life to come on here and correct someone when these people are trying to help.
This page has been very helpful, thank you all! - eddieI just received a call from the M Gerald 312-922-6500 number, thinking it was a vendor or supplier, I answered it. The lady was very curt asking for my wife and I bluntly told her 'what for?' and she quickly hung up. The best advise above is if you owe something $$ wise, pay the original debt, not the nigerian scammers (I liked the term above bottom feeders, reminds me of catfish!) but don't pay the debt collectors whose only existence is making money off people's misery in tough economy. Most places you might owe (if any) will work with you, not pass you along to scammer debt agency who calls all hours of day and night, regardless of do not call lists and fed regulations. They can be extremely intimidating and outright rude. I and wife don't own anything but I do keep a air horn near phone for scammers like this and give them a blast in the receiver to think about. Sometimes the scammer wins, as this time the lady hung up before I could get the air horn!

- Ticked-OffThese people keep calling my number for some lady who used to have the number and even though I have told them this number is new to me and I have no idea who the heck this stupid lady is they keep on calling me I wish they would just flate out lose their phone services lol...
- AlfalfaUnder the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.
Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.
This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc. NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls. In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc. Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.
David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors. Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call. Judge Davis wrote;
[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.
Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.
So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?
1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
3. Contact a consumer lawyer.

- Mack Easton replies to bluEarthNever acknowledge a debt, refer to it as "alleged" debt. Never pay one cent or agree to do so. Write them, if you choose, and tell to stop communicating with you with regard to the alleged debt as per your rights.
Your sister should stop the ten dollars per month payments. All that does is keep the account alive and will take many years to liquidate. Collection agencies are basically "bottom feeders." So, they report to the credit bureau, it's probably already reported by the original creditor. Wait 3 or 4 years, the statute of limitations applies. IF the original creditor has already written off the alleged debt, it's already on your credit report as a write off. A write off is basically a cancellation of debt by the original creditor. The damage, write off, has already happened, you make it worse by acknowledging a debt to a collection agency. In essence, you are starting a new account with a collection agency IF you acknowledge the old debt.
Good luck, keep the faith. - onebusychkI like to google #'s I don't recognize on my cell before I answer them. When I come across something like this that # is put in my contact as a DNA- brief summary of what they are..ie..collector, telemarketer, fishing 4 info etc. Then their ringtone is set as no ringtone. And then I am not bothered by them. They never leave a message.

- RayCalls but hangs up when I answer the phone
- Lewis| 1 replyI am a new resident of_, and have had my number for 2 months. I have received a minimum of 2-5 calls a day for two months from this number. I answered the phone once, and the [***] said may i speak to such and such...I said you have the wrong number...he then replied, this isn't the such and such residence...I said no, and he proceeded to tell me that I sound just like the individual. I'm active duty military just moving here, and have no time to play games with this ignorant child on the other end of these calls. I don't owe anyone but a mortgage and a car which I pay on time every month. I plan to report the next call to the police and end this mess here and now.
