Easy enough to research: These calls are from Gallup, the survey company. You can see results of many of the surveys on their web site, www.gallup.com. Like it or not, pollsters aren’t covered by the National Do Not Call Registry because they aren't selling anything or asking for money. Common sense says that politicians aren’t going to legislate against polling calls any time soon, since they rely on polls to get elected and figure out what their constituents want. Come to think of it, politicians listening to our opinions isn’t an entirely bad thing. Anyway, some of Gallup’s other surveys are customer satisfaction surveys for banks. Ask the teller about it the next time you visit your bank. He or she probably knows all about the survey because they get a bonus if customers rate them highly. Again, tellers motivated to give us better service at the bank ain’t all bad. Still, if you work odd hours like I do, you don’t want these calls. Turns out it’s easy to handle: just call back the number and press 1 to leave a message (as others have suggested) or send an e-mail request with your phone number to galluphelp@gallup.com. They'll block your phone number so it can't be called by their phone system. In fact, they were quite nice about it. Maybe I was lucky, or maybe it’s because I was polite to them, too. No, I don’t work for Gallup, but I’ve learned a few things over the years: employees of most companies are actually decent folks like you and me, just doing a job; their job usually makes sense if I take a few minutes to look at it and learn about it; they’re usually pretty helpful if you treat them with respect; and, sadly, there are always exceptions!

I also keep receiving phone calls from this number on my cell phone. I have not answered their calls and they still continue to call.

I got a call from this number last night and it was gallup.  They were doing a survey for the presidential election.

Got a call today 9/9/08 from 402-952-4444 they said they were from some bank. they asked whether I have been certain bank recently and wanted to take a survey. I felt strange. I asked: 'Do I have to?' they hung up my cellphone quickly.

It's the Gallup polling organization in Omaha, Nebraska.  I told them I do not want to take a poll and they kept on asking me when would be a good time, blah blah blah.  Something about how to make health insurance better in my state of NC.  I asked was there anything in it for me and the woman said "No" and I said "Okay Goodbye" but they still keep calling.

Noticed this on my "Missed Calls" window.  I dialed it back out of curiousity, and got a clear, professional male-voice recording identifying as "Gallup" organization, and explaining had called to elicit market research opinion, referred to their web site, assured no selling/referral of names/etc. involved.  Would imagine surveying in conjunction with upcoming election.  From other entries, may have been doing follow-up for customer of a client of theirs.  This probably one of the few legitimate of these frequently-encountered numbers.  This was first time I'd ever heard from them.

I received a call from 402-952-4444 twice in one day then a couples days later I received another. I called them to remove me from their list.

I am a Canandian and also got 2 calls from this number. I googled the phone and got this link. After reading all the replies; i was surprized that I would get a call from an American fund-raiser! Just saying!

Wanted to do a survey about Traffic Laws, and what I think about them.

This call left a message with a campaign message from a local politician.

I too was called, and after 10:30pm last night... again this afternoon and no one answered.

I got a call from this number two weeks ago and ever since then its been everyday they have been calling! once i picked it up and they hung up.  But otherwise it has been EVERYDAY!!!
