I had a Realtor company help me get a tenant, but they were handling things too professionally and were extorting the tenants, so i took the job of their hands and tried doing this my self, but couldn't find any tenant while I was still in the state as at last week. so as a matter of urgency for my travel, I do not want my home to be misused in my absence, I decided to take the keys and documents along with me. So I hope you will promise me to take very good care of the house always. I really do need to get a very well-behaved person to take occupancy of my house and take good care of it for me.

Yeah. I was too eager to find a place in town and sent this guy $400. I googled the +2347042939065 from my email 12 hours too late... I should have known by the imperfect and down-right poor grammar. It's not like I'm irresponsible or gullible...I'm a damned Chem major with emphasis in BioChem and Organic Synthesis..... I [***] up. I found the actual ad the guy ripped off of too. It was a weekend rental for a $1000 and copy pasted the ad and took out "weekend", and assigned a rental/deposit. $400 is pretty affordable and I needed a place by Wednesday. But I think that's a hint as to his M.O. Finding actual ads so that he can portray that he has information about the house, then lowering the cost, making it seem like a good deal, claiming he will pay utilities. Then his scheduled e-mail never arrives and he has your money. But hey, I guess the world needs mistakes like that, the exchange rate is nice, and I have just stimulated the Nigerian economy. WHAM BAM!

I was getting suspicious on craigslist because I was getting almost the same response from two different people, so I knew there had to be something fishy about it. One really has to be careful with these sort of things.

He's pulling the same thing in San Jose, CA.
Names he is using are Craig Deville (piano teacher), Michael Young (mechanic), Rev Paul Scott with his wife Mary scott. Mary sent me this:

Really sad that people do such scams. One really has to look at the apartment to see if you really get what you want. Also note how in the mail above they are specifically saying that you can't go inside and see it before. It's a bit pushy and sounds fishy already.

I didn't actually receive a phone call from that number but I got a similar mail about a property in Cambridge. Below I have copied and pasted two suspicious mails I received from him:

For his bad luck, I went to see the building and  it was all managed by a real estate agency..not only this but also the low rent for the area made me suspicious about him! So, be careful!

We are in Colorado therefore we cannot drive by the property. I really need to know how long the lease would be for. I have a couple of concerns. First, in researching that property address, I see that all the other apartments are renting for 1000-1200 dollars. How are you able to rent this for 500 per month?  I have to be honest in saying I am not overly trusting of craigslist. I need for my daughter to be in a safe apartment in a safe environment. I need some sort of good faith to show me this is real and not a scam. Since I cannot speak to you on the phone and you are wanting months down rather than first and deposit, I have become worried.

I was already sceptical when he/she (email under Sandra Perry but response from 'Andrew') said they were in Philippines but thought I would give them benefit of doubt anyway and replied. The no viewing bit pretty much set off alarm bells. If they were so trusting why wouldn't they send keys first? Also, what is the point of getting my phone number if he's deaf anyway?

   I lived in Manchester the past 2 years. I lived in a 3 bedroom flatshare for 3 months firstly before my then boyfriend moved over as well after which we moved into a studio on a lease under my name. There were no problems but when the lease expired a year later they wanted to raise the rent as the housing market was better for owners, so we moved into another flat with a friend. Again there were no problems there, the lease was one year but had to leave as I was leaving Manchester.

   I'm sure I can get landlords/previous housemates etc for references if you need.

Freshly painted and immaculately clean.
   The rent per month is $500 monthly including utilities and $480 deposit.I would like you to tell me your renting experience and how you can take very good care of the apt.I was wondering maybe i can send you the application form for you to fill out so that we can discuss how to ship out the keys and the document to you.
