- Resident47 replies to JimPRA can fill that fancy block gadget of yours within six weeks. It manages an insane pile of phone numbers, many left over from defunct telco Sunrocket. For six dollars and change in USPS fees you can shut them up once and for all, or sue them into silence if they disobey.
My advice for "not me" cases is found here:

As more minors obtain mobile phones, there are growing reports of them being hassled by the ghosts of past phone number holders. Follow the link I posted for Jim back there.

If your daughter is accused of some moldy junk debt, the FDCPA makes you and Dad her legal reps, able to swat away collectors with dispute letters and probably file suit if need be. - Resident47 replies to joleeThe federal Do-Not-Call registry exists to help enforce the Telemarketing Sales Rule. Please note the operative term ''marketing''. A debt collector is not a sales person and is therefore not covered. Here are the DNC service terms you were supposed to review at registration time:

Pounding out exclamation points and throwing hissy fits here isn't solving your problem. You must conffront PRA directly, preferably on paper. - Resident47 replies to NfinPRA is also known for skip tracing "nearbys" and strangers to alleged debtors. If you don't get a required dunning letter shortly after first contact, you may not be the primary target. Not recording messages is no measure of what's "important". Collection agencies are sued easily for saying the wrong thing in a recording which violates a debtor's privacy. Hence many avoid messaging altogether.
- Resident47 replies to JenClearing the flotsam of newly adopted "foster" phone numbers is a fact of telephony life. The DNC registry has never stopped working and remains a great deterrent within its scope. Debt collectors, like all non-sales callers, need not purchase or acknowledge that list. Criminal sales scammers with VOIP accounts and autodialers never cared much for FTC regs in the first place, and have learned to operate beyond the reach of Telemarketing Sales Rule enforcement.
- I didn't hear you call replies to LisaGet phone service for your home that has call blocking. At present I have 497 blocked numbers. I see today portfolio tried 5 numbers and 8 phone calls from 9am to 8:40 PM yesterday. I didn't even hear the phone ring. Give yourself a break you can't get harassed every day. It will drive you crazy. So get an internet phone service with call block and only give out that number. Get a cell and forward to it and NEVER give or use that number! Only use the number with call block forwarded to your cell and people can reach you on your cell. Never call back 800 something with that number. Forget the DNC list or a cell with limited blocking.Whats nice about my blocking is they hear it ring and it sounds like it goes through but it doesn't ring on my end or even missed call on my cell. So this has wasted hours of Portfolios time. They have no idea they think I just don't answer and keep trying! Took a little time to get all their numbers but 6 months of calls and not one has made my phone ring. I check my internet call log for laughs ............
I am filing bankruptcy soon and couldn't pay them if I wanted to. - Pitt Guy replies to DebYeah someone's always paying for all numbers. 800 numbers just make it so the person receiving the 800 call picks up the tab. They probably bulk pay for X number of minutes, but even if I could cut into that, it might feel good.

- Resident47 replies to FrinkTwo of the fifty states have what you're asking for, called a Statute of Repose. When a debt account passes SoL, the very act of trying to collect it is then illegal. The rest of us can only use SoL as an affirmative defense as a defendant, or as a cause of action as a FDCPA plaintiff.
Be aware that the FCRA seven year limit on *reporting* debts to credit bureaus has *NO* relation to or bearing on anyone's ability to collect or sue for that debt.
You are correct in spirit, that junk debt is called that for a reason. It's pure profit on the cheap for debt buyers based on aging accounts they can't or don't want to prove valid. JDB collection adds nothing supportive to an economy and its players are among the worst lawbreakers who only bring more ruin and hassle to already troubled lives.
Beats me why you'll endure "thousands" of calls from one of them when a single "shaddup" by Certified Mail could bring you peace .... or satisfaction from a lawsuit. - ??What GivesThis is insane. I don't have any bad debt that anyone should call & don't know how they would get my number. This is my cell and they call & call...I cut them off. They never leave a voice mail. I pay for a phone for MY use not these jerks.

"(click)" - Jina| 1 replyYes, they are [***]. It's obvious everyone knows they're full of sh*t. The only way I figure they're still even in business is because they probably prey on elderly people who may not know any better. I rarely answer, but when I do, it's only because I'm pissed! They call at the worst times - early Saturday mornings, etc. So when I do answer, I make sure I know a real person is on the other end and I say something VERY insulting. If they can harass me and inconvenience me over a debt I don't owe or a debt that's been written off, then I can be just as dirty and nasty to them!
