412-235-6111 keeps calling my 91 year old mother giving her trouble.

You are absolutely right!  The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, Sub 804 states that "Any debt collector communicating with any person other than the consumer for the purpose of acquiring location information about the consumer shall --- (1) identify himself, state that he is confirming or correcting location information concerning the consumer, and, only if expressly requested, identify his employer..."  SO, if you ask, they MUST tell the name of their company.  Just another indication that these bottom feeders are trying to bend the rules.

NEVER ADMIT TO A DEBT -- Demand that proof of the debt be mailed to you (get a PO Box or use a neighbor)
NEVER PAY TOWARDS A DEBT, ESPECIALLY IF ITS PAST THE SOL -- Any $$ paid to the debt admits the debt is owed and does away with the SOL!

I think these vermin only call from the shop in Norfolk Virginia, using dozens of spoofed telephone numbers. They have bought some of these numbers from closed businesses, etc.

Calling you ten times in one morning is outrageous. Whatever state you live in, call the Consumer Protection office, usually in your state's attorney general's office  -- if you do not know, call one of your state representatives offices for the phone number  -- and report this harrassment. When I got the Pennsylvania Consumer Protection people to help me, these bottom -feeders were given strict orders: no more than twice a day, and were also limited in the number they could call per week/month. They also forced Portfoolio to answer my letter, in which I had asked for verification of any debt they claimed I owed them. Their lawyer, a guy named Pearson, wrote to me that the debt in question could not be verified. All I needed to know, to let them know they can go pound sand.

The lawyer also stated in his letter that Portfoolio had "decided to cease collection efforts." That was September of 2010. This was call # 569   !!!!!!    since Pearson wrote that.   Pathetic pests.

Add this to what the Atty General's consumer office forced Portfoolio to compy with: since that time, all their calls must come with Portfoolio's name in the caller ID. Makes it easier to avoid picking up any of their calls.

Unrelenting, harassing calls on an out-of-statute debt. Blocked.

Sorry, Portfolio Recovery, I owe you nothing; my Texas debt is old, very old, from 1986, and you can't touch it because it was already settled out of court with the firm that I owed, and try as you might, keep wasting calls to me. I won't answer, and if enough of us are willing to join in a class action lawsuit citing harassment, we might one day own you.

I noticed you mentioned you had SSI.  I am on Social Security Disability and receive 808 and my son gets auxiliary benefits of 340, so . . . 1148 per month.  It was a little hard to tell what you meant, but was it that they can take someone with SSI or SSDI to court and the judge won't make us pay because of our low income or that our money can't be garnished unless it is government related???

These idiots have been calling me for years. I owe nothing now and in the past. There is another person in my area with the same name and I suspect they might be looking for him but at any rate they can call all they want - I'm still not going to answer! We never answer numbers we don't recognize. If I truly owed money they would send a certified letter with documentation. This is a scam organization.
