This numbers call every day, 2 or 3 times from same NAME: PortfolioRecovery :  410-575-1863, 404-941-8908, 404-719-4368, 412-235-6111
Never leaves messages. Does not matter for them the time, equal at 7am or 9:45pm any day of week, even Sundays.

IS THERE ANY COMPANY, ORGANIZATION,OFFICE, DEPARTMENT to call/write to stop this annoying "people"

These unethical Scammers will say anything to get someone to pay on debts they do not even owe.
They buy old debts that are past the legal of limitations, as well as paid off debts.

You can't really make them stop, unless you send them a letter ordering them to "cease and desist" by certified mail.

They may at that point retaliate with their slimy trick of sending you a 1099-C IRS form, showing that you had imputed "income" in the amount of a sum many  times the amount they paid for an out of statute written off debt. They pay pennies on the dollar, for what their lawyer admitted in writing is nothing more than a line on a print-out. He admitted the so-called debt cannot be verified. So, on, say, an unpaid credit card bill of $1000, they may have paid from $30 to $60. They immediately escalate the amount of the original debt by a factor of 2 or more -- to something over $2000, ie, about 50 times what they paid for it.

It may have been paid, it may not have been yours, it may be ten years past statute of limitations in your state, but these brazen vermin will report to the IRS that you have imputed income of $2000, for a debt you did not pay them.

Never mind, first thing, complain to your state attorney general's consumer protection division. Report them to the US Postal service for mail fraud. Report them to the IRS for making fraudulent statements about your income. Report them to the federal agency, I think the FCC or the FTC, can't remember, look it up. it is a pain in the butt and a lot of work, but the results will get you off the hook for paying extra income taxes.

Look up Google Voice.  It is free and will screen your calls.

Good news! I qualify for their debt reduction program. They will discount "my" debt by 20 percent. Funny, this is the wife's debt that's been paid off for 8 years now. And guess who got paid? ROFL --> Portfolio, 8 years ago! Back then it was a 40 percent reduction. I guess they came back for their 40 percent? Good thing I keep detailed records so I can sue these [***] for violating the FDCPA. Scum.

this number 412-235-6111 calls my place of business every morning, 99% of the time they hang up.
They are a collection agency as 2 times they actually asked for someone.  They are very rude, and then hang up when you tell them the person is unavailable.    

I'm in Texas too, the debt they're calling about is about 7 years past the SOL (I know because they posted it to my credit report despite it being well past the reporting date, disputed it and now it's gone).  Legally they can *try* to collect at any time, even if it's years past the SOL, but legally they are also totally powerless to do so.

I sued Portfolio and won.. now they are calling me again..
Time to call the lawyers again

This will be the 4th time in several months that they have contacted me regarding a debt that doesn't belong to me. Every time I tell them that I'm not the person they're looking for, they tell me that they have solid information that I'm lying and that I will be taken to court and they will get their money. Good. Let them try. In the mean time, I've contacted the FTC about them.

It just means they give some BS excuse when answering complaints. The wrong number, wrong name, calling relatives and friends, not disclosing who they are by sending debt validation, using nondisclosure calls for abuse and harassment, preying on elderly, vulnerable, and uninformed.

Ta-DA!   Yesterday's call from this number by Portfoolio was call #475  !!!!!!  since their lawyer, Pearson, wrote to me and to the state Attorney General's Consumer Protection office that they had "decided to cease collection efforts."  That was first of September, 2010, three and a half years ago.  When we hit #500, I may decide to write them a cease and desist letter, as commenting about these vermin online is getting old. Most people by now realize they are bottom-feeding pond scum, vermin who are operating a (legal) extortion scam. Bug off, Portfoolio!  

Great work an kudos to James -march 2013 and I hate spam -march 2013.  I was able to make a list of the numbers listed below of some kind of debt scammer. I was recently laid off and being home during the day, my phone rings all the time. What I also noticed is that if I pick up a call and hang it up at , lets say Tuesday at 12:30pm well before long the robo-computer must register my and store in their data base that someone is home each day at 12:30pm. IDK this for sure but it seems that way. PLUS. I couldn't pay them anyway on their waste of time ( 1997 ) debt, yes, that's right 1997 cuz I am unemployed!  Anyway here are some of the most annoying-est numbers that have been bothering me.

I hope this helps someone out there. They are either assets acceptance, portfolio recovery, out of area, unknown caller.
I google EVERY unknown number and comment on all so these sites. Helpful , yes. Gonna make them stop, DOUBT IT.

SOL is on whether they can sue for the debt and legally collect the money.
