FYI...Same calls as everyone else. I owe nothing but closed out my deceased mother estate in 1999 using my name, address and phone #. So they are writing and calling me. They said she owes $39.00 to T-Mobile and I should pay them. Okay right..When h3ll freezes over!!!

I added then to NOMOROBO (No More Robo) plus I have the Panasonic cordless phone system with call blocker with first ring  turned"Off" option. So now, I never hear their annoyance calls because it never rings in. So they can call until the world comes to an end and I will never know it unless I see it on my caller ID. The joke is on them

This phone is an 'Obama' phone. The person they are trying to reach had this number before I did. I have told them at least 20 times and they still keep calling. I don't answer anymore because it uses up my minutes that I need. But they are tricky and keep changing their number.

Don't answer, let it go to voicemail.  If it's important, they'll leave a message.  Screening your calls this way will minimize your minutes usage.

Easy solution. Drop your landlines and get a no contract cell phone for home use! They can't track your number for a no contract phone. Too bad someone wouldn't drive a plane into the building they work at. I'm afraid to fly so im out lol.

Wrong, they have 7 years to collect. If after 7 years with no contact, the statue of limitations apply.

They actually have a duty not to disclose that they're debt collectors except to the debtor him or herself. In other words, they're not permitted to tell anyone that the debt exists. The name of the company might be construed as disclosing the fact of the debt.

Then again, they could just be jerks.

Actually, by law, they MUST identify the company they are calling from.  That is completely different from saying they're debt collectors.

....yet another call from Portfolio Recovery, this time from Pittsburgh, tenth one from the company this morning and it's not even 10 AM... two from Virginia, three from North Richland Hills, Texas, three from Birmingham, Alabama, one from Jackson, Tennessee and this one... there must be at least 13 call centers in the country for these scumsuckers, and yet there are investors who pay money into this apparent pyramid scheme to defraud them out of cash while preying on old debt...

They have been calling me for over four years. I owe nothing. I have lived in NJ for over eight years with my husband and neither one of us even use credit cards. Don't even talk to them. Even if the debt is not valid, they can try to collect if you even talk to them. Please be safe, and don't answer these kind of calls.

You would think, after calling this number on numerous occasions, 7 in one hour last week, and no answer, that Portfolio would get it, that we owe nothing to them... Not my fault that they buy junk debt.

    Carrie,
Portfolio is well known for calling people like this and they do not care if you owe or not. This is why this company's is constantly being sued for violations of the FDCPA and TCPA laws.  You can invest in a call blocking device, they run around 60,00 and you can block them, but your better off keeping a notebook of the calls along with any and all messages, also recording them if you speak with them. Check your states recording laws first, some states require you notify them they are being recorded.
    State recording phone:

Follow the steps in what you need to know and send them a cease & desist letter via the US mail, return receipt or certified.
