- Terry replies to billsofmyownThey just sent my boss garnishment papers, ive lived in eastern washington over 7 years now, and i guess
what there wanting me to pay is from 9-10 yrs ago. Can they still garnish me - KayleeYes, I owe money! I am the first to admit that. Along the way I have lost my path with a lot of medical bills, and a collection account is what happened.
When this collection agency phoned me, the man on the line used his own emotions, not a professional way of communication (I am a disabled American receiving SSDI benefits) to yell at me about paying, and how there is no way I could pay using SSDI. I explained that I have a consolidation service, and I would like to put them on there until it was paid off. This way they would be paid all regularly.
No way! These guys are creatures of a poorly trained company. I was very upset by this (which I will report to disability services) because who phones you and yells at you? Anyhow, I tried to make a good faith payment, but was refused. I downloaded an application to record my calls. If you phone them (I phoned to see if I could try again to work something out) and tell them you are also recording the call, they pretend they don't hear you saying, "Hello? I can't hear you? I am hanging up now!" I have done this 3 times now. Same thing. Wow. I now use Mr. Number to block calls. I will pay with my consolidation anyway (the consolidation company is already contracted with this agency to accept 25 dollars a month).- Call type: Debt collector
- AdolphCoors replies to laughingreaderYou might want to find some blood pressure medication and get a hobby, dude.
- ConstantinePolycephalus replies to laughingreaderI think you're really starting to reach people. Changing lives, dude. Changing lives.
- William replies to ACJackassary. Keep your crap to yourself.
- William replies to reeWho cares about what they "make." They are still parasites. Quit trying to defend them; or, is it yourself you attempting to vindicate?
- Bigmac replies to SmoochieYou might want to check spelling before calling folks names.
- SMH replies to ACBased on this post, I assume you are perfect? YOU dictate that someone's inability to pay their bill makes them a "parasite"?!?!! YOU have no idea what circumstances results in someone being sent to collections. Extended illness, job layoff, injury, or just plain error (on the part of the biller or billee).....
I pay my bills. I have a fantastic job. I make decent money. I am in collection because the hospital wouldn't work with me to make payments that were REASONABLY AFFORDABLE following a medically necessary surgery - my co-pay $7000. - Belle replies to ACWe've been getting calls from these guys, but we don't owe them any money. They, and 6 other collection agencies, have been calling since last September for the deadbeats who used to have our number. Some actually listen when I tell them I've never heard of the people they're asking for (a couple, probably husband/wife) and stop calling, others, not so much.
I don't know about you, but I'm not willing to pay these deadbeats debts. - JCKnitBill collector

- AK Collector replies to baronkimThis is highly inaccurate. If they refuse a payment, then yes, but if they refuse a payment offer, no. They have the right to refuse an offer. And even if you are making regular payments, regardless of the amount, and it is not agreed to in writing by the company doing the collecting (i.e. they say $3 is not acceptable, you make your $3 a month payments anyway) they have the right to take further action against you.
- mrs2tiredI just started getting calls from these people. No message left. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize. I have no past medical bills or anything else for that matter. Stop calling.
- Stop Debt Collector CallsLeft no message. Seattle, east to Everett WA.
If they call, pick up the phone. If it is a recording, call them. Inform them you wish your number removed from their contact list and let them know your preference is X (postal mail notices).
Legally, they must stop calling you.- Call type: Debt collector
- mctFederal laws do not protect from this harassment as I have been receiving calls like this for 2 years. Every day 3-4 times a day. They are scammers. We do not owe bills (like other posts have suggested) nor have we ever been turned in to a collection agency.

- cjm replies to Shane| 1 replyAnyone getting calls from any collection agencies remember that they cannot call and harass you on the phone, they have to provide you with a verified debt owed and that has been taken to court and assigned to them to collect by the company owed which has to have companies name on the collection bill. You also must be notified of any court hearing on this debt if it is legitimate. And for the person yelling on here about paying their bills, unfortunately it makes no difference in this day and age you get harassed even when you owe no debts. Just wait one of these days you will have it happen to you. And for those who do owe those bills, most of those people would gladly pay those debts, maybe have lost jobs, haven't been able to get another job trying to keep roof over their heads food on the table and bills paid, so don't judge everyone out there or better yet try walking in their shoes. It is tough on people right now, and hope it will get better. So instead of yelling at people go donate to a food bank or a church that will help families in need of help.
- cjm replies to ShaneThe previous post was not directed at Shane but at AC who seems to think yelling is going to stop the parasites that say they are a collection agency. There are some that are called bottom feeders that go after people just trying to make money on people who don't owe bills as well as some who had bills 10 years or older. Have read where they have gone after deceased people's families for debts that may or may not have been owed at the time of death.
- BeauJust got an automated voicemail from them requesting that I call a number and extension. The message identified them as merchants credit, and stated that they were a debt collection agency. I went ahead and pulled up my credit report which shows that I have absolutely nothing that is outstanding. My credit is in the 700's. So I don't know if they were calling me as a reference or if they had a wrong number.

- AdminSuperGirlAsked for HR, unfortunately, HR will be away from their collective desks until:
1. The caller stops chewing their cud.
2. The caller actually is prepared to have a conversation.
3. The caller identifies self by name, and identifies the name of the company they are calling from/on behalf of.
Until these conditions are met, they'll have to suck it up and leave a voice mail.- Caller: Merchants Credit

- doxies replies to KJ| 1 replyYou should never ever agree to pay any amount to anyone even if you do owe money to someone somewhere. That is what they are trying to force you into doing because once you admit to owing any amount they've legally got you. This company is usually a last resort and either the company you owe to has hired them to hound you to hell and back or they have bought the debt for pennies on the dollar. They even try to collect on debts discharged through bankruptcy because once you admit to owing it the whole owing process starts anew. Give them your attorneys # if gone thru bankruptcy and hang up. Put all collection numbers on your block list. If not filed admit to nothing!!! If they are going to garnish wages or get paid thru any legal means you will get notified so go to court and let a judge handle it. If you never get a notice to appear they can't get anything unless you volunteer to give it to them so say nothing to them on the phone if they get around your block. If you feel compelled to say something tell them to send you a letter and hang up. Do not answer any questions and give no info....they already have your name address etc....if the debt is unsecured after two years they can't even take you to court anymore (learn the laws in your state AND the state the company is located in) so you don't have to worry about anything except dings to your credit and if a collection company is involved it's usually too late to worry about that. These people are TRAINED to be nasty and rude etc....because it WORKS for them and they really do not care about being compassionate to anyone's circumstances but will pretend to if it gets you to admit to the debt. It's all psychology and based on known responses to certain criteria and if you give them long enough they will find one that works on you, that is why you just hang up. Do not take their insults personally - they do not know you and you do not know them...once they hang up they are to the next "payday" - it's a numbers game to them and the volume of calls dictates the size of their commissions. Hope this was helpful.
