If you answer and there is a person, here are the questions you must ask and in this order although I doubt they will let you get past the first one. #1, what is the name and address of your company. I fought 2 different people to get this information, told I had a bad attitude, and yet it is the first answer they must give. #2, when was the debt due, if it is over 7 years laugh like a crazy person and hang up on them.(the debt they called about was 15 years old) #3  who says you owe them money, they will say the debt was incurred by so and so, #4, how much is the original amount for. #5, tell them you own no debt to them (because you dont/ they wrote you off) and please stop calling, and hang up. Dont barter, dont threaten, just disconnect. If the debt is over 2 years old you will be opening up a fresh can of worms and that poor credit is refreshed for another 7 years on your credit report.

    Me
They called me the other morning.  It was a woman asking for a person I've never heard of. When I told her she had a wrong number (which is true, I've only had this number a couple weeks) she got very rude and hung up on me.  I hope this isn't the beginning of a bunch of harassing calls.

The above response by "doxies" was the correct and most logical response. Just don't answer the call. Admit nothing EVER to anyone. Just DON'T PICK UP THE CALL. Simple. The phone number that I got recently with my cell phone, apparently used to belong to someone that had a debt somewhere, and was on their call list. I've talked to them 3X, explained it's a new number, and asked to be removed. Nope. They keep calling. Stupid. Fine, I can fix that. I just use a FART SOUND ring tone for all their numbers. They also a lot of 425-516-XXXX numbers as well. Either way, I treat them as nothing wrong number zombie callers and never pick up. My cell phone is a vortex of nothingness. Keep calling all you want! They don't affect me. I like the FART ringtone. Makes me snicker at these parasite debt collector low life's, every time.

I don't have any debts. how ever the person that owned my number before me did/does. Sucks for her. I do wish after a few times of being hung up on they would take the number off their list. It gets very annoying. Perhaps phone companies should find a way to WIPE numbers clean from everything before giving it to someone else -_-

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested).  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis(no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
    http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-an-atto ... tates_value=All

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Looked on my bank account and they wiped me out. Checking and savings. BofA told me it was a debit from a merchants credit. Called number 425-643-2613 that bank provided. They did not answer. Who the frank are these people? I don't owe anyone and they can just take your money without notice?
