    Charities, politicians and polls are some of the worst offenders. They should be banned from calling if you ask them not to call you.

    They have shut down some of the callers. I think they wait for 100,000 complaints before they take action. There are just too many telemarketers. If everyone reported each spam caller to the FTC they would eventually take action.

    They don't care about the No Call List. They can give you a Free back brace because they bill Medicare. The FTC needs to increase the fines when they catch these scammers. Congress is the real problem.

    I used to be the IT "department" for a "good guys" (incoming calls only) all center and know something about how the "bad guys" operate.

    Today, most of these types of calls are the result of computer dialing which has replaced the buying/selling of name lists (a list used to sell for $200 to $400 for 5,000 to 10,000 "good" names). The crooks who run these scams cut costs wherever possible. Computers are cheap and the software available is probably freeware.

    If you are on Medicare, then that information is readily available from the government (not necessarily AARP), as required by the Freedom of Information laws, and supported by the amount of junk mail received from insurance companies (as well as other companies wanting to sell to seniors),

    Considering the above and the fact that a certain political party are anti-AARP, I doubt that there is any connection to AARP.

    ALL of these calls are CRIMINAL calls using FALSE PRETENSES ('free' medical equipment, lowered interest rates, 'free' cruises, gift cards, etc., lowered electric rates/solar panels and sometimes even threats such a unpaid taxes/IRS scams, loved one injured/arrested, etc, etc.) to catch you off guard enough into TRICKING you into divulging PERSONAL (name, address, DOB, SS#/Medical Ins. #) or FINANCIAL (Credit Card #, Checking Acct Number, even Electric Bill Acct#) in order to SET UP BOGUS ACCTS in YOUR name or to STEAL from your EXISTING Accts.

    In other words these are CYBER-THIEVES.  They are no different from pickpockets, or burglars; they just use different methods.  They use SPOOFED (trick your phone into displaying a FALSE phone number/name while CONCEALING their TRUE identity/location) Phone Numbers and, of course LIE as to their purpose/motivation for calling all of us.

    EVERYTHING about them is FALSE - WHO they way they are, WHY they are calling and WHAT number/location they are calling from.  MOST are likely OVERSEAS in THIRD-WORLD, poverty-stricken countries such as INDIA, PAKISTAN, Other "ISTANs", the Philippines, AFRICA, CHINA and Southeast Asia; and even RUSSIA.

    The ONLY thing we can really do is to IGNORE these calls, pick up/hang up to break the calls sooner, and BLOCK as many as possible, if you have the means/equipment (well worth the investment.)  NEVER 'engage' with them: answering questions, arguing, telling them 'not to call', threatening them, etc. and NEVER press ANY numbers.  The less you interact with them, the fewer calls you will get, although its unlikely you will get to 'zero' calls, as they just keep changing the numbers they use and calling over and over.

    And, regardless of how futile it seems, REPORT  EACH and EVERY call to at least the DNC List.  I also keep a personal call log.  Someday, maybe, if there is any kind of Class Action lawsuit or some form of justice, I want to be able to prove how many of these calls I've suffered through.  These calls started in the 80's, but since starting my log in 2006, I've documented over 10,000 of these calls to our six family lines, alone.

    Guess they've switched to a new tactic this week.  Over the last 7 weeks, the MO up to now has been "Lower your electric bill" OR "Buy Solar Panels over the Phone" RUSES.  This is our **48** call from this set up, alone.  Other numbers they have used with this same MO (name of location, only, with number):

    978-400-2559 "FITCHBURG, MA"(2x);
    978-965-8961 "LAWRENCE, MA" (2x);

    909-620-6597 "CALIFORNIA"
    434-363-4558 "LYNCHBURG, VA" (Today)
    Probably also related to LONG TIME TELESCAM # 210-280-8487: Interest Rate Scam; Free Cruise Scam, Computer 'Fix' Scam; etc.
    All MA/CT #s have been "Switch Electric Providers" *ELECTRIC BILL ACCT #* PHISHING SCAMS;
    All the Out of State #s were: "Solar Panel" *CREDIT CARD* PHISHING SCAMS.
    ALL these calls are likely  from OVERSEAS INDIAN or PAKISTANI CALL CTRS: heavy INDIAN-ASIAN/MIDDLE EASTERN accents.

    Caller ID said "Virginia Call 434-363-4558."  I was bored so I answered and heard a recorded message saying that this was a return call about a back brace about which I had inquired as a result of an ad I'd seen on TV.  I was told to press "1" to be connected to a representative or "2" to be removed from their list.  I pressed "2" and was immediately connected to a woman with what sounded like an East Indian or Pakistani accent who gave her name as "Sarah."  As she started her sales pitch, I told her that a.) I had pressed "2" to be removed from the list, and b.) any interest I may have had in an ad I'd seen on TV has expired long ago since I don't watch and I've not even owned a TV for fifteen years.  Oops!  "Thank you sir and have a nice day.  <click!>"

    Just like all the others here, it's a recorded dingbat telling me THEY are returning MY request for information regarding a gaddam BACK BRACE. They are gonna need a back brace when I find them. Voice said to press 1 to get connected and press 23 to remove yourself from these fooking calls.
    I pressed 2 and GUESS WUT? Some dude came on the line. I said not to call anymore because everyone here was dead. Next time I'll sound out of breath and just say I killed everyone. Then I blocked him. Jesus do I hate people.

    100% SPAM.  1.  SPOOFED #.  2. Only "LYNCHBURG, VA" on CID; NO COMPANY name  3. **ILLEGAL** Pre-Recorded Message/ROBOCALL  4.ASIAN-INDIAN Voices  5. Using the RUSE of a  "Return call" to you for a 'free backbrace' that you supposedly inquired about from a commercial (I've seen the commercials, but I've never called) to perpetrate MEDICARE/MEDICAID/IDENTITY THEFT PHISHING.  **THEY WANT YOUR SS#***

    Frankly, I think AMERICAN CORPORATIONS are IN on these SCAMS.  For instance, TIME WARNER CABLE runs commercials that hawk "Lowering your Electric Rates", "Home Solar Panels" and "Free Knee and Back Braces".  They have our home phone # (tied to our acct) - the one that gets the bulk of these calls.  Funny how we GET one - or A LOT - of these calls with EACH of these COMMERCIALS/SCAMS that are advertised.  *I* NEVER Call these 800number offers, and yet I get ALL of these calls.  Hmmmmm.  When we have called the 800numbers for accounts that we DO have, where we need service (VERIZON, SEARS, CHOICE HOTELS, CITIBANK) suddenly we get an HUGE INCREASE in these SPAM CALLS from INDIAN CALL CENTERS for WEEKS/MONTHS afterwards.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.

    Called today, I was expecting a call from a friend who had to go down to Lynchberg, VA so I thought he was calling from his office there. When found out that it was about a backbrace they said I called about from the tv commercial I saw I hung up right away.
