I've received this call once and a while and the first time I did I kept arguing with him for some time and at that time my computer wasn't even working! That's and the fact that I'm still a minor so shouldn't it be illegal for them to do this? Can't anyone do something about it? Its crazy and annoying because he called me yesterday during school but I didn't answer it...

Had fun with them. replies to triplebay
it has nothing to do with Workopolis.  They tell you that you have a computer problem & then get you to type in a command that will give them remote access to your computer.  Then basically if you don't buy their "fix" (as there is nothing wrong with your computer) they start trashing the system 32 files. They are a scam out of India & have used several phone numbers which tells me they get caught & move on.

I am in Sweden, also just got the call. I said I was not in front of my computer. They even asked me when I can access to it so they can call me again.
Feel so weird and wonder how they get my number. Luckily I checked this webpage.

I got an aggressive call from this number an India individual and he insisted that I need to turn on my computer because my files have been hacked and that all information are visible for all, and the he said that I have downloaded dangerous viruses etc. that he wanted me to type RUN on my start browser to see for my self but I said its impossible that I work for Government officials and he still continued so I hung up and tried to call the number back and its black no tone no bz signal nothing!! I feel that they are trying to retrieve information somehow while they are one the phone with you they have connections to your internet. this is getting so ridiculous and look they are calling my cell phone as I am typing this and only three numbers show 510 what the hell!

I am located in Ottawa, Canada, and just now (4:40 pm EST, 05 Mar. 2012) received the same call on my land line. I am a life-long Mac user, my number is unlisted, & I am (unfortunately) on the Do Not Call List (DNCL).

I type "unfortunately" because I recently became aware that being on the DNCL might be the problem:

While the US DNCL has been quite successful, the Canadian DNCL is known to be abused by telemarketers who actually use it as a *do* call list, i.e., a list of over *six million* confirmed-to-be-registered telephone numbers. Hence, those of us who registered for the Canadian DNCL actually receive *more* telemarketing calls than those who declined to register.

University of Ottawa Professor Michael Geist (Cdn Research Chair in Internet & E-Commerce Law), outlined the problems in a Toronto Star article in 2009 — see: http://www.thestar.com/sciencetech/article/580741 — and continues to discuss it on his blog (which is well worth following, by the way; go to his site — http://www.michaelgeist.ca/ —, & use the search box in the upper right to search for "DNCL").

The media has been reporting on the issue since shortly after the DNCL started; see:
    - Oosthoek, S. "Registered with the Do Not Call List? Expect more calls, says consumer watchdog". CBC News, 23 Jan. 2009. http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2009/01/23/donotcall.html
    - Galloway, G. "Do Not Call List gets dismal results, senator finds". Globe & Mail (Toronto), 07 Jul. 2010. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ ... article1631616/
    - Moore, O. "Clement blasts Do Not Call scammers". Globe & Mail (Toronto), 09 Apr 2009. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/article967922.ece

Although the above news items are now a few years old, the issue remains unresolved (welcome to Canada, eh?). A bill (Bill C–27, 39th Parliament) in part designed to remedy the situation was before the government, yet it never made it past the order paper because Harper proroged Parliament in late 2008.

If you opted into the DNCL at an early date — or if the person who previously owned your current telephone number opted into the DNCL — then you are probably being driven insane by telemarketers precisely *because* your number is on their list (& because Harper is ... well, I shall be civil & leave it at that).

I wish I could provide a solution, but at present it seems that there aren't any.

Got a call on my cell today from 510-943-3040". I'm in Waterloo, Ontario I do not answer if I do not recognize the caller's number. So, I did not answer and they did NOT leave a message. I did a reverse look up and found all this info. Thanks to all contributors. There must be some I5 Guy or GEEK out there that knows how we can start being pro-active with these sorts of callers & make it impossible, or a least "her uncomfortable" making these calls!! And yes, how do we protect seniors, younger kids, and people in my age group who r not so savvy with computers??? If they have no victims, the game will stop, right???

These people will keep calling you even if you tell them that you dont have a computer.  I always ask what company thay are calling from and for a PH# to call them back but they never give a strait answer and that is an indication that they are a SCAM.

I have been getting calls from these guys(the ones that say they are a company that work with Microsoft and say there is something wrong with you computer) for at least 5 years (not kidding). Some times everyday, sometimes they stop for a month or so. 2 years ago, I contacted Microsoft and this is what they told me...there is NO company that represents them in this matter and that NO ONE from Microsoft will EVER contact you unless you request it. Microsoft informed me that THESE PEOPLE ARE A FRAUD. There is very little you can do to stop them from calling except block them if you can.
