This is a very late reply to your 2010 post but the same thing happened to me. Got a call from the alleged Census Bureau asking me to confirm an address the caller reeled off to me. I told her you had the right phone number but the wrong address. She then asked for my current address. I refused. She asked why. I told her I did not know who she was. She thanked me and hung up. Might be legit but might be scam. Never give out info to strangers who call you.

Got 2 calls from this number identified as "US Census Bureau." Second time, I accidentally answered and a lady with an accent wanted to speak to the "lady of the house" and I told her I have no house, that this is a Tracfone and you're costing me because this phone is for work and emergencies, not spam and junk calls from persons unknown. She quoted me a strange address and I have no idea how it's associated with my Tracfone number unless it was from a previous owner. She wanted me to "verify some information", I told her, no, I won't hold for that, too expensive. She wanted the address where I was, I said no, I won't give out private information over the phone. I told her to stop calling me and take my phone number off their list.

If this is a legit "US Census Bureau" call then they need to get their oppressive act together and cease and desist. It was bad enough going through their long form in 2010, most of which I simply marked as "private" and sent back in--but to continue to HARASS citizens is just too much.  

And if it's not the Bureau then keep reporting them until they stop and don't give information out over the phone. Technology today is too sophisticated and there is never any way of being certain these things are not a scam. Be careful.

I do not want any calls from any unknow or un-identified numbers.

got a call from 520-798-4152....claims she is with the US Census Bureau.  WHAT A SCAM!!!  Her accent was SO HEAVY - you could barely understand what she was saying!  Is the government really going to hire someone with such a heavy accent that can barely speak English to call on their behalf???   I think not!

got a call from this number on my cell they wanted to know if I was located in Danbury WI asked the callers name and she replied and asked her to spell it  and this is what she gave me for a name "Koiayma Burgon" not sure on the last name. told her this was a cell phone and not a residential phone, she said someone would be calling back.

KennethAmerica and Dave are part of the scam.  Instead of clicking on their links to get the contact info, I looked it up myself.  That isn't even the 800 number to contact the Census Bureau. I strongly recommend that you idiots close down your scam ASAP, because its only a matter of time before you get found and busted. For any of you unsure of what's real and what isn't in this case.  Look up the CB YOURSELF, and ask them about it.  Don't click on the links the people on this thread are directing you too, as its actually pretty easy to create a domain that looks official and setup a fake call center to answer questions to make the scam seem legit.  With this much effort, you'd think they'd just go get a job.

This is a complete fraud.  That's not the CB contact website link, and that's not the customer service number.  I checked myself.  With as much effort as you put in, why not just go out and actually get a job? Clearly you guys are smart enough to work.  If you think you're smart enough to pull this scam and not get caught, then go ahead.  But I figured it out, so how long do you think it will be before the authorities do?

I just got a new call from this number, same one (among a couple of others) that tried this right after the census was over.

They had my number, (of course, since they just called it), but gave me the "lady or man of the house" line, so that means they don't have the name for the number, I would think. All that should be on a legitimate census form, right?

And then came the topper - she asked if my address was "17 Boring Drive"! Come on now, if that's not fake and made up I don't know what is! And it's quite obvious to me that this barely understandable lady should have my correct address already if it was legit. I hung up after she asked that ignorant question, how dumb do they think I am? They're not trying very hard with a made-up address like that, hahaha! :P

I get 5 to 6 calls a day now from these 2 numbers claiming to be the US Census Bureau. FED UP with this bs ... they are not from the Gov - the Gov would never bother to even try more than once if they even would call ... on one number on the display they can not even spell Bureau correctly ... HEY PHONE COMPANIES AND THE US GOV... some of these go back to 2009 WHY DO YOU ALLOW THEM TO CALL US FRAUDULENTLY?

I am getting 3 calls a day from the Census Bureau, it has to do with the bogus surveys they want you to fill out. Caller IDs from Census Bureau, Indiana and Arizona. The government is out of control. Wish I could sue them for harassment.

Ps I complained to my US representative Steve Israel, but he won't help, he's a Democrat.

Okay, where do I start, DEBUNKING this former employee's information. This was 2011, so it is not the 10-year census that most people are thinking about when the "census" is mentioned here on this site. So, THE survey that is the most OFFENSIVE to American people is the ACS - the American Community Survey. This one is 28 PAGES LONG, and must be seen to believe. It will take you a LONG time to answer the multi-part questions. If you fill it out you will feel naked when you finish. The questions are sooooo invasive. Those conducting this servey have all sorts of tricks up their sleeve to get your answers. Yes, our goverment has okayed this census, but bills have been passed to try to take funding away for it, or bills to make it voluntary instead of mandatory. Most people have NEVER heard of the ACS Census and don't know it exists. The survey is sent out to 250,000 a month (and will probably be increased), a drop in the bucket of America's population. Why? They want the upper hand at surprise and force, threatening you if you don't participate. The ones who don't get the survey are apathetic, because, well they didn't get one, and don't think they ever will. And they may not. It IS HARD to believe your own country should be allowed to harass you.  EDUCATE yourself. This ACS Census Bureau should be outlawed. However, YOU might get one next week. Then you'll be sorry you didn't speak out against it.

you are not the only one. i went off on both the morons that called me. i told the second one to [***], over and over, and he stayed ont he line, trying to get me to give hin my info. if they call again, they will get the same thing.

Looks likey you are right, just like spoofing your email address, spoofing caller ID can also be done.

No idea who is really on the other line of that phone call.

Apparently there is no way to know who is really on the other end of a phone call as caller ID can be spoofed just like your email is spoofed.
