I got a call from 530-238-5813.  The caller had a heavy foreign accent, called himself "Mark Johnson" and said he was from the IRS.  "There is a problem with the return you last submitted.  You need to call this number right away and speak to Michael Johnson."  I knew it was a fraud immediately, as I have had dealings with the IRS and they write letters, they don't make phone calls.  But I played along to see how good he was.  Not very.  "What are Michael Johnson's office hours?"  "You have to call him RIGHT AWAY."  "What is your ID number?"  He quoted me the phone number he was calling from (which is the same one he told me to call - ge, why not just transfer me to "Michael"?)  I asked again for his ID number, explaining what it was.  He gave me a silly number.  I also asked him if he and Michael were brothers, or is everyone at the IRS named Johnson?  "Just call RIGHT AWAY!"  I hope no one falls for this scam, whatever it is.

Heavy foreign accent claiming to be IRS stating I need to call back "right away" - name given - John Morrison.
First, the IRS does not make phone calls and second - This idiot left the message for me on my mother's cell phone not mine! In short, it`s a scam no doubt whatever "they" want which I would venture to guess is some of my personal information

send/give/relay them this info as yours - Its really FBI field office.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:

I just talked to "Michael Johnson" as stated above and the questioning was if I had a criminal record and they were settling my tax debt due to the fact that I was a not a criminal and it had to be done today.  If it was not done today it would go to court, they would arrest me, I would lose my job, I would have a criminal record and I would do six months of jail time.  When I asked the amount to settle they told me $10,000.  When asked about whether I could drop it off in the local IRS office. I was told no.  Several times I asked if they were the IRS... they affirmed.  After several more questions I was called a 'smart ass' and hung up on after the individual stated "just let them arrest you and you're going to jail".  After googling the telephone number to find this site, I called the number back and asked if he was calling from India... which he acknowledged.  TOTAL SCAM......

I have been receiving multiple phone calls over the past week from this particular phone number 530-238-5813.  This gentleman has a very heavy "Indian accent" and his name is Steven Johnson, Mark Johnson, Steve Brandon, and Laurence Johnson.  He told me that I was wanted by the IRS in California for back payment of taxes.  For a moment he frightened me! This is a scam.

    Not so stupid
I got a call from this number today. They left one message and then called 3 more times in the next three minutes and left some computer fax tone on my voice-mail (three times!). The first message was that I owed back taxes with the IRS. Curious I called back and spoke with a man with thick Indian accent (gave same generic name). I could hear other people in the same room with him on other calls also with Indian accents. I pressed this person for details. He gave me no details. I kept asking for a case number because he kept saying I was going to be take to court over these supposed back taxes.  He NEVER would give me a case number or any details. He just kept saying I would have my assets and my bank account frozen.  He said some other stuff that I couldn't make out.  At this point it was obvious to me that this is a scam.  So I did an internet search.  Anyhow, when would the IRS EVER outsource to India in the first place??  These scammers aren't too bright.  The IRS got in such trouble for line dancing on video. Just imagine if the IRS outsourced jobs to India, REALLY!  They'd never hear the end of it in the media!
FYI - I did report this calls because this guy pissed me off so much, trying to scare me like that.

    Tired of these scams
I received the same call today. Same Indian accent man and I could hear others talking in background. When I asked why didn't IRS send a letter agent never answered. When I told him I did not believe he was calling on behalf of the IRS just just kept repeating I needed to contact Micheal Johnson. The number he gave me to call back was the same number showing on my caller Id. I ill be calling the FTC and Governer's office instead to file a compliant.

    Grrrrr
I received a call from Michael Johnson. He had a thick Indian accent. He told me I owe $5572.40 and it needs to be paid in an hour. If I don't pay, a sheriff will come arrest me at my job or my home. All of my assets will be seized and I'm going to jail. He was rude and hung up on me when I got upset. I called back and he said I'm going to jail. He just called me back and I told him I called the IRS and he said I'm playing games and he was sending the sheriff out for me.
