This is a "long distance routing number" which is used by TELUS (the local telephone company in British Columbia).  This number is not actually DIALABLE from anywhere (inside BC or elsewhere in North America, or outside the continent).  It is just a "dummy routing number" that is used by Telus -- the only use it has is INTERNAL (intra-telephone company) usage in call routing.  Sometimes on overseas calls, it will show up with the country code attached to it (see the previous posts about 61-604-550-7000).

This number also pops up when callers use the "CANADA DIRECT" or similar calling card service to place long distance calls -- you can see this number pop up, for example, if you are travelling in Paris, and place a CANADA DIRECT calling card call to say Prague -- the person that you are calling would sometimes see the 604-550-xxxx number pop up, even though you might be calling from a Hotel in Paris ...

This number in and of itself is not a 'threat' of any sort, and is only used as an internal routing number for long distance calls.

You can confirm this information by looking up the 604 prefix (Greater Vancouver, British Columbia) at www.cnac.ca/data/ac604.htm

You can also contact Telus (the incumbent phone provider) at www.telus.com if you truly have any concerns about this number or it's usage, but as I say, it is a routing number.

Thank you for your VERY useful information !!!   I have been getting several call from this number ..but I did not see it appear on my bill.  I just get a message saying that the number is not available.

I have received two messages on my answering machine.  The first time was about three months ago, and then again today.  Both times a voice changer(male voice) was used with birds chirping in the background. Both messages were very similiar.  The one today said, "Hello this message is for (my first name). I wanted to say hello and was wondering how things was going as we haven't spoken for many, many years. I was just wondering how things were going. Anyway, have a wonderful day. Thank you."  The number is blocked and I am really creeped out by this!  Has this happened to anyone else, and did you figure out who it is???

i hate this..i have gotten 2 calls from this number and today i decied to see where it was from. i have no idea who it is but its really making me mad. like how does this person get all of these numbers and each time fakes they are different people everytime.  i just was wondering how they got my number and why they keep on calling

I thought my ex boyfriend was calling me to harass! Someone said "do you still want to do this? do you still want to play this?" sounded like him! LOL. There was mumbling and cutting in and out. I think it's a calling card directory number and the connection is bad and the one calling you from the calling card can hardly hear you and you can hardly hear them.

I received two calls today from 604-550-7000, they were from DELL computers.  They called to try to resolved an issue with my order.

Seems this number is a Primus blocked number (false) to disguise their customers who are spammers, etc.

Caller was from "Harte-Hanks" calling us (a business) to get more information on us so we could subscribe to some magazine crap.

Now, before the conspiracy theories take overhand:
Calls from 604-550-7000 are from any private/unlisted subscriber at Primus TalkBroadband VoIP in Canada.

I forgot to mention that immediately after receiving 1 call from this number, I received 5 calls from 1-577-781-5116.

I got called from this number and also a number that is 92308632040 and 923068425589. It was a indian guy who doesn't speak English at all, and I kept telling him that he called a wrong number...I am so frustrated...so I called FIDO and asked them to block these numbers and they said they don't have this service.....
what should i do? It's very very annoying......... :(

I keep getting calls from this 604-550-7000.  They hang up, try to sell me some kind of stupid trip.  Its pissing me off.  When you try to call the number back, its the "I'm sorry, please hang up and try your call again."  They never identify what company they are with, and its a recording.

I had the police at my door saying they were watching my street looking for a prositution ring. Thay hassled me a little bit, and wanted my home phone  so I gave it to them. One of them sottd there and called my home # and the caller I.D. showed this # and said "Vancouver, B.C.". I live in Phoenix, AZ and they were  undercover cops or posers, they flashed a badge but that does not mean crap.

If you live in Phoenix, AZ watch out. They could be trying to trap you or bust you. An undercover cop has that #.
