aaaahhh they call every day. i dont usually answer the phones but im covering. we do have sales reps (me being one of them) who have to earn a living as well. and it all starts on the phone. but i mean c'mon everyday a couple times a day?? get a hint! im actually looking forward to their next call just to mess with them. it'll entertain me. i deal with people saying "not interested" occasionally. but most of the time people are polite and respectable and will guide you in the right direction (unless you start giving the gatekeeper your sales pitch-- which tells me you're not a very good telemarketer) and if not they'll say not interested. so what? theres billions of businesses! call the next guy maybe he wants to buy something.

anyway back on topic, they keep hanging up! and they're funny too they tried to say "is andy there?" (instead of andrew) which he absolutely hates. i just want to be the other person on the phone for once. ha ha ha ha ha

Hello to all of my anti-telemarketing friends.  As a telemarketer for 20+ years I've heard my fair share of insults directed at telemarketers.  I do not work for said company but get a big kick out of reading all of the hate comments posted on various internet sites about telemarketers in general.  It's funny how business owners don't have "time" or are too good to talk to telemarketers.  Yet they have time to come to sites like these and make physical threats against innocent people trying to earn an honest living or make really professional comments like cursing telemarketers, calling them "heffers," "losers," and so much more.  I have plenty of experience dealing with unprofessional idiots like most of you here.  Therefore I will share my telemarketing wisdom to try to HELP you handle telemarketers in a much more professional manner and help you cut the number of telemarketing calls you receive.  Here are the steps you should follow:

    1)  First and foremost for all of you that think you know it all, you might be on the Do Not Call list, but that ONLY applies to your home or mobile number - NOT your business line.  Sorry.

"The national Do-Not-Call list protects home voice or personal wireless phone numbers only. While you may be able to register a business number, your registration will not make telephone solicitations to that number unlawful. Similarly, registering either a home or business fax number will not make sending a fax advertisement to that number unlawful, but the FCC has separate rules that prohibit unsolicited fax advertisements under most circumstances. For more information on the rules for fax advertisements, see our consumer fact sheet at www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/unwantedfaxes.html, or visit our Web site at www.fcc.gov/cgb/policy/faxadvertising.html."
    2) A good telemarketer is not going to pitch your gatekeeper.  She can try to screen telemarketers all she wants but a good telemarketer will simply keep calling until you, the DECISION MAKER, take the call.  She eventually has to miss a day of work for various reasons and that my friend is the lucky day a telemarketer will get through to you and try to sale you something!  Woo hoo!
    3) For those of you that like to physically threaten a telemarketer for simply trying to do their job you should realize that many companies record the phone calls that their telemarketers make.  If you are recorded making a physical threat towards a telemarketer and you're recorded doing so you are simply asking for a lawsuit.  Believe you me many telemarketers would love to retire early because of some stupid idiot who threatens to kill or physically harm a telemarketer.  Go ahead and take the risk.  You could be subject to losing your business, having your business name and your own name smeared on national news all because you acted like a psychotic idiot because you got a "sales call."
    4) Don't you realize that telemarketers laugh when you taunt them with name calling and get your blood pressure sky high?  It's hilarious!
    5) If you want someone to stop calling you simply answer the phone when they call.  I read many comments on here about how said company calls 4-5 times a week.  Solution, answer the call instead of screening it.  Listen to the pitch.  If you aren't interested simply tell the caller you aren't interested in a polite manner and I bet they wouldn't call you anymore.  At the company I run my staff of "phone jockeys" (which I thought was a hilarious term for a telemarketer that I read on this site) are more than happy not to call somebody again if they politely tell my telemarketer not interested.
    6) No telemarketer really cares how many "calls like this" you get per day.  It's not their problem.
    7) For those of you who love to play games with telemarketers believe you me they enjoy it too.  If you're going to let a sales call get your britches in a knot they think it's pretty funny.  There are much worse things to get upset about especially during these poor economic times.
    8) Telemarketers love when you say not interested or just plain hang up on them during their pitch before you have any idea why they're calling you.  A good telemarketer will simply call you back on another day with hopes that you'll be in a better mood and then listen to their pitch.
    9) The more challenging it is to get a decision maker on the phone the more motivated a telemarketer will be to get that person on the phone.  Your gatekeeper may win some of the battles on the phone but a good telemarketer will somehow find a way to get you on the phone and win the war.
    10) The easiest solution folks to decrease the number of telemarketing calls you receive is simple:  TAKE THE CALL!  Let them try to sale you something!  Who knows it may actually be something that could help your company increase profit.  And let's face it.  All of you business owners are selling something too otherwise how could you possibly be in business if somebody wasn't buying something from you.  And for those of you who allege your business never makes sales calls and that all of your income is "word of mouth" you are full of cucka!

Best wishes to all and may all of the telemarketers worldwide sale sale sale and may all of the business owners and decision makers buy buy buy!  The economy could use it!  God bless!

A good telemarketer will not leave a message on your voicemail or with your gatekeeper.  Why you may ask?  A) It eliminates the caller from calling you back that day or the next B) your gatekeeper isn't going to give you the message or she will make a decision for you even though she is not qualified to do so C) You won't listen to the voicemail.  You're too busy surfing the internet or playing golf and have some stooge in your company listen to your messages and either delete them or again make an unqualified decision for you.

If a message is not left that telemarketer can call you several times per day at perhaps better times to reach you.

My we focus on one thing please? My business phone is for MY convenience.
NOT the low life bottom feeders who constantly think they are the ONLY person who has called today trying to sell something.

Let me revisit that idea again for the bottom feeders only. It is MY phone, I pay for it for the convenience of my customers.

If someone wants to sell me something, come to the front door like an HONEST business person and you will be treated with respect and dignity.
Although you may not always make a sale, you will make a friend.
And referrals are MUCH more valuable.

The legal noose will get tighter and tighter in time as they continue
in their bothersome ways. It may take a while, but they are their own worst enemy.

To "Tony the Great Telemarketer"......my boss has specifically told me that he expects me to screen these type of calls and that he does not want to talk to them.  We probably get 6-10 of these a day.  So you are suggesting that I just go ahead and put them through???  I would lose my job!  My boss actually only comes into the office about twice a month for less than an hour each time.  So you thinking that you may catch him when I am not here is not going to happen.  That is the frustration.  Our bosses expect to be shielded by us from you and you wont take no for an answer.  So we are stuck in the middle.  So when you are chuckling at the frustration of someone who wants you to just stop calling, remember it may a single mother who is just trying keep her boss happy and hold on to her job.

And by the way, this number keeps calling every day and asking for Peter.  He is NEVER here and they are never going to reach him.

My boss's name is in the name of our company.  So they call the listed number and ask for him by his first name.  The funny part is that my boss has a private, unlisted number that he gives to business associates and family.  So anyone that calls our main line and asks for my boss is automatically a telemarketer.

I do my part by being extra nice to them, placing them on hold and leaving them there.  THey might call back, but I don't mind.  I get paid a lot of money to tie up their lines.

When I have asked them to remove our number from their call lists, they just laugh and hang up.  I am as sweet as sugar to them, and I love it!

I am a secretary and I can say that you telemarketers are the scum of the earth. Don't you realize that we are trying to do OUR jobs and not have to deal with your lame business pitches. If we want to do business with you, we'll find you. Stop calling us. And by the way, if you call and we tell you to stop, you have to stop unless you want charges pressed against you. We're not playing games with you, the owner of the company will not waste his time on scum like you. If you don't like your job, get a new one. And I absolutely LOVE IT when you start screaming at me to put my boss on the phone, I definitely will listen to everything you say now that you yelled at me. You all are stupid. The world would be much better without you.

As you say I am the gatekeeper. Yes I always give the boss all of the messages, I am required to take the number, name, company and nature of your call. My boss must be an exception ha actually likes making deals and listen to new ideas. Maybe the other "Phone answer peoples" get angry loud rude. I take it all in stride you either want to leave the info or you don't. Most of the time my boss is out and I am not lying. Try another approach and leave some info the next you call you might be surprised.

I like this Tony guy.  We need more people like him who support telemarketing.  I am a telemarketer for a cell phone company.  I can tell you that I am not scum.  I own a $400,000 home, drive a bmw and own a cottage on a beach.  And I earned it honestly through hard work in my 22 year career as a TELEMARKETER!
