I received a call from this number late this afternoon.  It was a woman.  She asked for the owner of our company by his first name as if she knew him.  I told her he was unavailable (he was sitting right next to me at the time) as I knew that the only women who would call him at work would be his wife or our top sales rep who does a lot of traveling for our company.  She began insulting me by saying that I'm a low life receptionist who knows nothing about the company's finances.  I'm not sure where that came from.  She insisted that I put the owner on the phone or she was going to continue to call everyday until he took her call.  I politely told her that he doesn't take sales calls.

Her response was that I'm not qualified to decide whether or not this was a sales call and that I had better learn my role with my company which is to transfer calls and stop trying to be a decision maker.  I was highly offended and again asked her politely to stop calling us.  Again she stated that I am not qualified to make decisions for my boss.  She instructed me to lose my attitude.  I told her we are on a do not call list (at this point I was getting desperate to get her off the phone).  She told me that there is no such thing as a do not call list for businesses.  She also said that if she wants her company to stop calling me that she needs to hear it from the owner of the business or it's not valid.  She said she wasn't selling anything either.

By this point I needed a valium.  I was starting to put the phone back on the receiver and it was like she had a camera or something and she started yelling for me to not hang up.  So I put the phone back to my ear and she proceeded to demand me to put the owner on the phone.  Again I went to hang the phone up and again she started yelling don't hang up.  I then told her that I had to go to the bathroom and I really needed to get off the phone.  She told me to hold it until the owner took the call.  At this point my legs were starting to quiver and I felt as if I was going to burst.  I slammed the phone down as hard as I could and sprinted to the bathroom.  Luckily I made it in time.

I will not take calls from this number ever again.

    Frustrated
Received a call from a woman today asking for the owner. I asked "May I tell him who is calling" she gave me her name and I asked if I could tell him what it is regarding. She said a credit matter. I told her that I handle the finances of the company is there something I could help her with. She told me no and that it was a personal item and she has to talk to him first. The call escalated from there. I told her to send a letter then (after all, if she is calling for a personal debt then there is no way anybody is going to speak to them unless they verify the credit matter). She advised me the call was being recorded like it mattered to me. I don't ever play this card to telemarketers but the fact that the owner is also my father, I actually do know alot of what is going on with their business and personal finance because I handle them both!

I have no problem with people being telemarketers and making a living. What I don't appreciate is that telemarketers just assume I have no idea what is going on and then proceed to lie just to get through to the boss. Problem is too many telemarketers have used this ploy to get through and it rarely works anymore. Here's a thought telemarketers- Be polite and tell the truth and stop using the stupid tactics to get through. Because even if I let you through he would have sent you back to me!!! WHY??? Because I AM the decision maker!!! That is why I am here to make his job easier.

And doesn't it make you wonder why we now have a Do Not Call Registry? I assume it's because people really don't want these calls! It's just too bad it only applies to personal numbers.

If we need your business we will find you. Some of us are small companies(1 person!) and our business line is our cell phone too!

No, I've got no more employees.

    I'm sure.

    Totally sure.

    I appreciate you calling.

No I don't plan on increasing in the next few minutes.

Still one employee. I'm sorry, I'm just on my way to lunch, and I'm not interested.

Yes, I hear you, but I am not interested in your health insurance scam right now. Thanks!

Sorry, please, I'm trying to get to lunch!

    *click*

Ever wonder why that happens? Yeah, be less annoying and interested in what I'm saying, and you'll be fine. Be annoying, you'll get hung up on pretty quick these days.

Hell, I even tried to take an offer once, when I needed health insurance. Got quotes, person goes over all this detail with me - Oh, you live in Texas? Your area code is in texas? Oh, can't help you! Sorry for wasting HOURS of your time!

Numerous calls from 614-848-1111 on a daily basis. Every time we have answered, they hang up in our ear. If we try to dial back, we receive the phone company message that the "number is not in service".

Forgive me not contributing any sympathy for poor abused telemarketers. You have chosen a profession that has a public image somewhere beneath lawyers and used car sales. Maybe a tad above derivatives traders - maybe. And for good reason. There are many competent, professional telemarketers with quality products or services to sell, there are many more abusive idiots. If you want the complaints to stop and be proud to tell your mothers what you do for a living, get together and clean up the profession. This number is a case in point. Call, hang up. Call, hang up. Call, hang up. Call, ask for me, I identify myself, hang up. Call, hang up. That's yesterday and today. I return the call, number is not in service. This is my private cell phone, it is not a business, and it is on the National Do Not Call List.

Hello, I actually appreciate how polite you have seemed through your post. I wish the telemarketers I get would be more like what you describe. I am said gatekeeper and it is MY JOB to make sure that the owner of my company does not get these calls. I know you are only trying to do your job, but so am I. I always try to be polite but usually, they are the ones threatening my job if they don't make it through and hanging up on me. I have three basic questions I as every caller: 1) What is your name? 2)What company are you with? 3)What is this call concerning? I usually don't get to make it to number three. All I am trying to do is save us all some time with these questions. My owner is usually busy with machines, employees, customers and any other problems we can throw at him so he doesn't handle 99% of the things telemarketers are calling for. If you can answer my questions I can get you to the right person or if I know something, I can tell you whether or not we are interested. I don't get rude until you do. In fact, just like you, I find the calls can be the best part of my day! I enjoy letting YOU get riled up and then shooting you down when you get belligerent. As for the good telemarketers making it through, it just doesn't happen. My owner NEVER answers the phone. If I happen to be out of the office there are two , sometimes three, other people who answer the phone and they won't let you through either. And as far as playing games? My owner has told me on several occasions to ask for passwords or something of the nature. While he never answers the phone, he may take a call if he happens to be in the office overhearing us, so HE can have fun with you. Anyways, enough rambling. I understand that you have a job to do. But understand that so do I, and the gatekeepers are not the only ones calling names, threatening people, hanging up and in general being rude. Thanks and, yes, God Bless.

Roger The Great Owner replies to Tony The Great Telemarketer!!!
Hello Tony and all you Telemarketers out there.
My job as a business owner and only employee is to focus on my business and on serving my customers.
When I get a call and the caller ID reads 0000000000 or any other number I don't recognize, I do my best to answer the call, since it could be a customer calling - from behind a PBX system - and I don't wish to miss out on potential work.
When it turns out that it is a telemarketer, I am polite, listen to some if not all of the sales pitch and nine times out of ten, I have no need or use for what he/she is selling. I politely tell them so and I ask that the number be removed from the call list. It is, however, rare that I don't get another call from the same company a couple of days later! Having been in sales for over 20 years, I know the tactics and I understand.
What I don't get, is why would a medical supply company call and try to sell me stuff when I'm not even remotely close to that kind of a business? My website is very specific about me doing computer work, but it does make mention of me working with small medical offices. Are they hoping that I would try to sell a dentist or a chiropractor some medical supplies? Hmmm...
Also, why would the same company try to sell me advertising, when I made it very clear to the first four callers that I don't have the budget or the need for it? One would think that they would want to explore new leads and not beat the same ones to death!
But, let's say that I can understand the sales calls.
Why then, do I still get two, sometimes three more sales calls within days of making a purchase? These guys are clueless to the fact that I already bought what they're selling. So, in cases like that, I call back, cancel my order and tell them why it's being cancelled.
So, Tony The Great Telemarketer, although some of us don't yell, [***], cuss or get our panties in a nut when a telemarketer calls, the industry as a whole would have much better "luck" (success) if the folks working it would follow some simple rules and also if they were polite and have their act together.
I have talked to some real, professional telemarketers and also the fly-by-night ones and I can tell the difference!
If the first caller from a company is rude once I turn him/her down, the next caller from that same company will not make a sale either! Guaranteed!
Also, if you call and ask for my help with that one more sale that will put you over the top so you can win the trip to Mexico, well, I wouldn't pack that suitcase yet...

I can't imagine being so uneducated that the only thing you can do for a living is be a telemarketer.  That really is the low of the low of jobs. "unprofessional idiots" ???   YOU ARE A TELEMARKETER CALLING PEOPLE AT WORK WHO HAVE REAL JOBS....  how bizarre that you or anyone would justify such a thing.  And by your llloooonnngggggg note, you obviously have a problem with it yourself and you are trying to justify this yourself.

ps.  20 years???  You haven't been promoted to some other job within your company after 20 YEARS?  That says a lot about you personally...
