At 10:49 am EST on 12/23/2013 Bank Card Srvcs called our home and the caller left no message.  We are on the do not call list.

What does it take to get these pests to quit calling????

Got the call this evening about my "second and final notice" to lower my credit card interest rates and payments. Funny since we pay off our cards every month so we don't care about payment amounts or interest. Losers.

Rcvd a call from his number today. I keep a list similar to TOTC.  I'm not sure what planet Ann Amelmehay is on, but my list contains around 300 numbers and my "Pro CALL Blocker" can block 1500 numbers. Thanks TOTC for sharing your list.

The answer to your question is a call blocker or a phone system that can block calls.

Our state attorney general is trying hard to stop these calls, and has succeeded in stopping all legitimate companies from calling. (I even got asked to testify in court one time. I no longer get calls from companies selling time shares, siding, etc. ) The problem with these scammers is that they use spoofed phone numbers and change them so often that it is very difficult for any government agency to run them to ground. But that doesn't mean that we should stop reporting them. Just doesn't let them raise your blood pressure. Yelling at them and hanging up only makes the problem worse. Either don't answer or be very sweet but "dumb", giving them erroneous information and tying up their time for as long as possible.

I don't have the time to do this, but my husband has had some success with this tactic. One caller used all kinds of vulgar and threatening language when he realized he was being played. My husband just chuckled to himself and calmly agreed with everything the vulgar man said, making him madder and madder until he hung up in frustration.

Have you ever answered their call when the phone rings? I get these sometimes with the same message about the Stimulus and a last chance to reduce your credit card interest rate. What has that got to do with the Stimulus?

This particular number began calling me on 12/17/13 @ 8pm.  It is the same robo dialer who represent themselves as Bank Card Srvcs and hang up seconds before my answering machine picks up.  They use fake numbers thinking they will trick you into answering the phone because they are smarter than the legitimate, honest  people they call.  Ignore and never give out any personal information to anyone who calls on the phone.

Caller ID says T-Mobile CA.  I didn't answer but listened and there were all kinds of weird noises in the background.  I'm on the Do Not Call list and these calls should not be allowed.

I agree with Cate. Waste their time. Refusing to pick up the call does nothing because the auto-dialer just puts you back in line to call again--and the computer never tires of dialing.

If you answer the phone and hear a recorded message instead of a live person, it's a robocall.

You've probably gotten robocalls about candidates running for office, or charities asking for donations. These robocalls are allowed. But if the recording is a sales message and you haven't given your written permission to get calls from the company on the other end, the call is illegal. In addition to the phone calls being illegal, their pitch most likely is a scam.

What's the Reason for the Spike in Robocalls?

Technology is the answer. Companies are using autodialers that can send out thousands of phone calls every minute for an incredibly low cost. The companies that use this technology don't bother to screen for numbers on the national Do Not Call Registry. If a company doesn't care about obeying the law, you can be sure they're trying to scam you.

What's the FTC Doing About Robocalls?

Duing the last few years, the FTC has stopped billions of robocalls that offer everything from fraudulent credit card services and so-called auto warranty protection to home security systems and grant procurement programs. Tracing these calls is a tough job:

Many different companies use the same or very similar recorded messages.

Robocallers fake the caller ID information that you see on your phone. That's called caller ID spoofing — and new technology makes it very easy to do. In some cases, the fraudulent telemarketer may want you to think the call is from your bank, or another entity you've done business with. Sometimes, the telephone number may show up as "unknown" or "123456789." Other times, the number is a real one belonging to someone who has no idea his or her number is being misused.

Robocallers often place the calls through internet technology that hides their location.

What Should You Do If You Get a Robocall?

    If you get a robocall:
•Hang up the phone. Don't press 1 to speak to a live operator and don't press any other number to get your number off the list. If you respond by pressing any number, it will probably just lead to more robocalls.
•Consider contacting your phone provider and asking them to block the number, and whether they charge for that service. Remember that telemarketers change Caller ID information easily and often, so it might not be worth paying a fee to block a number that will change.
•Report your experience to the FTC online at or by calling 1-888-382-1222.

We're getting a lot of calls like this from places all over the country. It seems as if when we get one, then another one follows shortly. I think they're mostly the same group.

We don't answer the calls. We let them go to the answering machine.
