    I recieved a call from these people today. A Ian Crutis to be exact. They said I had check fruad and would be summoned to jail if I did not pay. He was very rude I'm calling my bank in the morning to figure out what is going on. They had me upset all day. I am a student and this was very stressful. They call my family daily. I just wish they would stop because they are not getting my money. Especially not from a 2009 case..smh I will deal with the bank directly. They will be reported. Very rude & it's awful.

    Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

    They aren't allowed to lie; they aren't allowed to threaten.  Don't pay unless they provide proof of the debt.

    I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, so I let these yahoos call all they want. Sometimes they leave a voicemail which is always a recorded message about a final notice and if no action happens on my part they will send the paperwork to my place of employment. What paperwork is never specified, even then what's my boss gonna do but hand to me, where I tell him it's a crap scam and we'll have a good laugh about it. They have all sorts of phone numbers they call from. I'm not bothered by them, and in fact with their vagueness I am getting a bit bored with them.

    If you're in legal possesion of a debt you want paid, PROVE IT! Send the required validation as per federal law and then complain if you're not paid. Nobody should pay a supposed bill simply because some scum-bag tells you it's owed. If they can't supply a letter of validation by mail, their claim is a fraud. Simple as that. No ifs, ands or buts.

    Gunnar you are correct. These guys are required to show proof of debt that legitimate collection agencies do as the law says. If it's legitimate, show me the proof and I will take care of it.

    Pay Your Bills: In fact I do pay my bills, thank you. I am taking it you work for these guys.

    Also, the old "tripling the alleged owed debt" is a routine tactic.  It's also illegal.  "Kentucky Legal Services" is also straight out of the N&G playbook.

    2nd call from them.  1st call was that it would be in my best interest  call or have my attorney call before they send verification to my employer (I haven't worked in 3 years) 2nd call is that I need to verify an address for someone and even if I wasn't that person I had better call back. Not calling back and will continue to block any number they call from

    This is an illegal tactic to collect money...report them to your local authorities because they are claiming to have warrants and they claim to be people of law authority which they are not...impersonating a marshall or other law enforment agency is extremely illegal. Make a police report at your local police station.

    these people are fraud
    Do not give these people any info...in fact go to your local police station and file a report against them. It's illegal what they are doing. Also...the courts do not call you and give you a heads up if they are going to serve you with papers. DO NOT PAY them over the phone...I was scammed a few years ago by this same tactic and then they took out lots of money  several times and I shut my account and the bank said because I willingly gave my info they could not refund me...I had to go to the police and the detective called the number back right there in the police station in front of me and the guy hung up and within 24 hours that phone number was disconnected. When they call you...tell them you are sitting in a police station and the detective wants to speak with them....
