- annoyedReceived call from them but I do not answer long distance calls due to the scams out there. Shows it is from TN. No idea who it is. They did not leave me a message so I guess that they are not important enough for me to call back!

- J.RussoYou have been calling my number for over 5 years I am not Robert ? So please stop calling this number.....
- The DefenderPortfolio Recovery, the bottom of the earth scum sucking debt company. They go after accounts that are past the date of recovery. Like those Nigerian email scams, they just hope to get a few people to bit out of the tens of thousands they call. You can easily forget about these people, ignore their call but know they will probably contact you until the govt steps in to stop their illegal activity. They are true scum, we can't even imagine the type of people that work for them.
PS the reason they don't leave a message is that it give them the right to call back soon. You ignore then and they move onto the next victim. Most of us they are calling don't owe anything, already paid it off, or the account is too old to collect.

- LeafMeBee| 1 replyCan't confirm that it's Portfolio Recovery Services; but I already have ~25 lines direct-to-voicemail that are, so will just add this one to the list. And yes, as others said, they're a junk debt collector, and will hound you for the rest of your life on debt that you paid directly to the creditor or with an expired statute of limitations. Which means that they have the right to contact you about that debt that expired 5 or 10 years ago, but cannot legally enforce collection of said debt. Government can spend billions to bail out banks during a recession. How about some legislation to enforce bottom-feeding junk debt brokers from harassing individuals for the rest of their lives?

- Tamianth replies to erock005You may want to look up the SOL for your state to be sure. You can follow the steps in what you need to know.. Send them a cease and desist letter via US certified or return receipt mail.

- snyper replies to JJI don't think you are correct. Admitting or acknowledging the debt will not restart the SOL clock because it would be simply a matter of your word against there. My understanding is that
Debt validation will not restart a state statute of limitations. You restart a statute of limitations clock when you:
1) Make a payment, or
2) Acknowledge a debt in writing
As per http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090319192324AA1gsYm - CBSARemoteAgent1 replies to k rockNot quite. The SOL only restricts the collection agency's time they can sue you for the outstanding debt. Technically they can harass you till the cows come home if they think they'll get a dime out of you. If you want to stop the calls, send them a Cease And Desist letter. If they persist after that, you can sue them for FDCPA violations. Just make sure you leave the USPS avenue open or you could be breaking the law (although that has never made sense to me).
- CBSARemoteAgent1 replies to esqNope.. not illegal to call on Sunday
http://acaoftexas.org/consumer/faq/answers#When can a collection agency call me?
When can a collection agency call me?
A collection agency may presume that it is convenient to call you between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., local time at your location. If these times are inconvenient, you should ask the agency to contact you at other times. There is no law that specifically limits the number of calls an agency may make to you, but repeated calls over a short period, which may be annoying or harassing, are prohibited. - snyper replies to Michael
- SparkyThis company is a bottom feeder. They buy up old debt that is legelly uncollectable for pennies on the dollar and then intimidate people to pay them when they don't legally have to.

- SmitzNone of these clowns ever call...their little automated dialing robot calls and has the nerve to say "this call is very important please hold and someone will be with you soon." I hang the hell up...if it's that important, a person should be calling me themselves...so I can have the pleasure of hanging up on them and not their automated flunkie!!
