I have a debt with neat buy.  the first time ever they called me I said OK I'll pay whatever.  But with rent and everything I could not make a payment. The lady got rude mass so when will you make it.  I said soon.  Now they have been calling me ever since.  Bow with a different number everytime time.  They said they can garnish my wages . Isn't that illegal to do by any collector?  I thought it was

Just a threat to scare you.  Only a judge can issue an order to garnish someone's wages, and that is only after a hearing where the party in question has a chance to defend him or herself.   Don't pay them anything unless they send you a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.  Otherwise, don't talk to them, don't return their calls.  Block their calls and DO NOT PAY THEM ANY MONEY OR AGREE TO.

Yep. Portfolio Recovery. A Republican owned debt collection harassment agency. This is a BBB unaccredited company who breaks the law every single day. They get complaints and lawsuits regularly and are not afraid to harass anyone. They will call for debts they can not sue on, or collect on, past the statute of limitations, the wrong person.. etc etc etc. They call to try and get a recording of you acknowledging a debt and try to get the Statute of Limitations started over again. Don't even talk to these slime. In reality, they did nothing to deserve one penny from anyone. If you do decide to talk to them, never admit the debt. Don't even hint at it. Due to the Bush economy, many lost jobs and incomes and Portfolio and Asset Acceptance are flourishing because of all the defaulted credit cards. Portfolio is a company the loves a recession.
