- Not Playing Their GameIf you're getting harrassed about old bills, then you should do some checking into your state's laws. In NY, if a bill hasn't had a payment made or a PROMISE of payment made in seven years, then it's dropped and the creditor has NO LEGAL RIGHT to be collecting on that bill. However, if you suddenly agree to make a payment, you've got to wait seven years before that law can take effect again.
In FL, I can't remember if it's seven or 10 years but if you owe a debt and haven't paid or made a promise to pay for five years then move out of state, that time limit freezes until you move back into the state. Then it picks back up at the five years where it left off.
CHECK YOUR LAWS! I learned about that one on the Suze Orman show and went to a website she linked that listed all the timeframes for the states.- Caller: First National Collection Bureau

- ChickChatAndAllThat| 5 repliesIt matters not if someone hasn't paid their bills. If someone is attempting to collect a debt it is against FTC (Federal Trade Commission) regulations to contact an individual without identifying yourself as of several years ago. Furthermore, before assuming and saying such nasty things, perhaps one should know the full story. You know not until you have walked in anothers shoes. And funnier still, often times they are scam artist if they are operating this way... and no one is to be called named in the first place.
- Kmh replies to ChickChatAndAllThat| 4 repliesI do have some outstanding bills that have gone to collection. However, I WANT to pay the bills, not have folks call me 13 hours a day and never leave a message. The problem is, none of these folks are reasonable or intelligent. They demand way more money in payments then I can afford, and when I offer to make payments that I can afford, I am told to not pay my electric bill, and pay them instead. You would not believe the things that these bottom feeders have told me...Join the Mormons so they will pay my bills for me, don't take my disabled son to the doctor so I can give the money to them, don't pay my RENT so that I can give the money to them. I am frustrated because I WANT to pay them, to be honest and pay my debts, but they make it impossible. THey call 15 to 20 times a day and will not listen to you. Seems to me that getting regular payments from me would be better then this constant harrassment. They also never leave a message, if you don't pick up the phone and wait for their "service" personel to pick up, you will never know who they are. THen they are rude and abusive.
- DCSGet calls all the time, first time they left a message was tonight. For a relative.
Will send a cease and desist letter, and if that doesn't work you people should always send a complaint to the Attorney Generals office - these types of letters do work, you just have to put in some effort... Also,
these agencies always try to intimidate and collect on debts past the statue of limitations - don't pay anyone anything if you don't have to. Know your rights under the FDCPA.- Caller: First National Collections Bureau

- Mr LunchboxThis number calls me atleast twice a day about every other day. First call is a hang up and second call asks for me by name. Some people say it is related to Finger Hut. I do have an account with them, but it is paid current. I have no idea why these losers call me when I am not behind... Way to go FingerHut!

- AnnoyedThis phone number belongs to First National Collection Bureau. They are claiming that I had a Mastercard with some company that I have never heard of. I told them. I also told them they are to STOP CALLING. I also stated that IF this was a legitimate collection call, they are to send me a letter to that effect. They had the audacity to state they have sent me 3 letters, which they have NOT!!! (Then they started accusing me of throwing the letters away.) Bull!!! I have not received one letter from this company. LIARS!!!! LIARS!!! LIARS!!!!

- DCSThis is definitely a collection agency in Reno, I happen to live in Reno -but guess what, I've tried sending them cease and desist letters to all addresses on file, and I get them back return to sender "in handwriting, not by the typical USPS stamp." So, they are not legit and they are scumbags never sending verification of anything, so we just don't answer and I always file complaints with the FTC and the Attorney General's office. The SOL has expired and we filed bankruptcy - but these types of collection agencies never obey the law, nor do they care about the laws - they just prey on people they can intimidate into paying for things they're legally not liable for anymore, and there are people like that out there, I've heard the horror stories... Plz people familiarize yourself with the FDCPA, and file complaints with the FTC and whoever else, it will work. I have a log sheet of all calls and names, I even file complaints with only the phone number...

- LizReceived a call today from 775-412-4499 at 1:56 p.m. Today is a Friday. This was a call to my cell phone. I don't give out my cell phone number (which I thought was on the 'do not call list') except to family, friends and my doctor. So as I read this I wonder how they even got my number. Do they use some sort of random number machine? In any case, I did not answer the call, it went straight to voice mail and all I heard was a beep, a pause and then they hung up.
