775-412-4499 called me today with caller ID as "unavailable". I called the number back and got a busy signal the first time. I tried again and got a woman on the phone. I said I was returning a call and she asked for my number. I gave her my number, she looked it up and asked is there was someone named Deann at this number. There is no one here by that name so she said my number will be removed from their system within 48 hours. We'll see how that goes. It sounded like a collections call.

I have had about a hundred calls from these idiots in the past month, then I put a block on them and they called from another number, but when I called them back, guess who called me but the same idiots I had blocked before.  Anyway, I called them like 30 times in one night, just talking to the operator, asking her personal information, talked about the weather, never gave her my name.  She would ask me not to call back, and I would, then she got nasty and hung up a time or two, then I got a busy signal after that.  It was great fun, but I know not something I should do.  Anyway, this company has so many addresses and names, it's nearly impossible to write to all of them.  I have filed ten, yes ten, complaints against them with the government.   Anyway, my next step is to sue them, I figure at 1,000 a pop times the 100 times they have called, I might retire.

It's drug traffic. I know, as it's been 20 years. The most useful creeps work for the phone company.

The only people who have this number are the utilities who are responsible for having them. I've NEVER handed it out to anyone. (I need it for other stuff). So, it was important that I got three calls from 559-350-2701on 4/2 and 4/5. I'd never HEARD of this local area code person on the caller ID, and told her to quit calling, as the number goes to local law enforcement. This harassment started BIG TIME with one phone company that Bush protected with the surveillance bill so even those not bugged for him can't sue, and then moved here when I moved. It's public knowledge I've done nothing wrong and so of course know all about landlines.

You don't owe them money, so don't worry. THEY probably owe money. It's the same losers who've been bothering you for years who now have access to phone info. You'll have to guess how they got that.

calls from 775-412-4499 are from an illegal collection scam. they claim to have an old debt from a closed account that is 10 years old. they are trying to use scare tactics to collect money you don't owe. whenthe number comes up on caller ID don't answer it ever. if you do they will continue to contact you. I don't even have my real name listed on my phone i use my dogs name and they say he owes a debt.

These bottom-feeding collectors just won't get a damn clue. They keep calling my house looking for my mother-in-law who is in a nursing home with dimentia.

I tell the collector this, and make it clear that they need to quit calling me: 1) I have no legal ogligation to divulge any information; 2) I have no moral duty to give them information; 3) In fact, my "moral duty" is to protect my 90-yr-old mother in law from these pariahs and their outdated claims; 4) the person they are seeking does not live here, therefore they have no reason whatsoever to be harassing me. Don't f-in' call back.

They just don't get it, and I've already sued two of them. Got $8000 from the first one, and $13,000 from the second. Of course, my attorney gets his cut, but the problems were solved.

Also, she has no assets, so you "do-gooder" shills can [***]. The creditors gambled, kept upping her credit and charging their obscene rates. They lost on their gamble, and it's their own tough luck. Like the knight said in The Last Crusade: "[they] chose poorly."

For those of you dealing with this, here is my attorney's website. He IS the lion in the herd of collector-wildebeasts, the shark let loose in the goldfish pond:

    www.deanmalone.com

He's in Texas, but certainly he can point you in the right direction if you're in another state. Also, a wealth of information:

    www.budhibbs.com

Something many of you may not know, but you need to hear: you are sitting in the driver's seat with these [***], DON'T LET THEM GET TO YOU! Debtors' prisons were closed long ago, so you're not going to jail. The vast majority of the debts these vultures try to collect are beyond the legal statute of limitations. They can NOT garnish wages without going to court first, and even then, it's a longshot (student loans are a different breed, though). They only have the power that you give them.

    Best of luck to ya.

They kept calling someone at our number. They DON'T CARE that we are not the people they are calling. WE OWE NOTHING AND NEVER HAVE!  Some people assume because people get these obnoxious calls they are legitimate calls to collect a legitimate debt. If you watched "20-20" about this, you will know a lot of them are scams and criminals that are hoping some poor sucker will send them something...like the Mardi Gras...."throw me some beads mista"..

We found a very simple solution for all annoyance calls. We did some research on telephones and went to Best Buy and purchased a Panasonic phone Model KX-TG9333 DECT 6.0. This model has three handsets but you can get the same model with one, two or three. It allows you to block up to 20 phone numbers as long as you have Caller ID. It rings once or twice then disconnects the call. The caller can't get through. The readout on the phone and the "missed call" list shows "Call Blocked". It shows a very small "x" in a box to the right of the call to show you that it has blocked that call. Just make sure you let the phone ring once or twice to see if it's a blocked call or someone you want to talk to. WE LOVE IT!!!!

Thanks to you "Way South Austin" for all the valuable info.  I wrote down your attorney's name...good to keep that.

This number is connected to most of the 775 area code numbers. The collection company bought several numbers at one time and rotate them.  They are all in regards to past debts -- very past debts.  And what the company does is buy them from another collection agency who bought them from a collection agency, etc.  This company probaby bought your account for .05 per dollar.  That's why it CAN show on your credit report beyond the 7 year limitation because this company buys the debt just before the 7 years is up, then reports it as a NEW bad debt so it can remain for another 7 years -- even though the company may go out of business.

Does anyone know how to block certain numbers from a cell phone?

    American Gal,
    Greetings.  You’re right, and wrong.

“In Constuition of United States, it says I can shred all bills if over 7 years old.” isn’t correct. It’s not in the Constitution.
However, each State has a statute of limitations on old debts, which varies from State to State, from 4 years to as much as 12, depending where you live.
BUT there are two Federal laws which allow you to stop scammers (or even legitimate collectors) from harassing you.  Public laws 95-109 and 99-361, also known as the Fair Debt Collection Practices act dictate that you may order them to stop contacting you.
    Here’s what I found:
    FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT

You have the right to STOP collection agencies from ever writing or calling you again. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act contains an empowering tool in for the consumer. By law, a collection agency must stop contacting you after they receive a letter telling them to. The body of the letter should basically read:

You are hereby notified under provision of public laws 95-109 and

99-361, also known as the Fair Debt Collection Practices act, that

your services are no longer needed.

Your organization is to immediately CEASE & DESIST all attempts to

collect this debt. I will not recognize any collection agency and will

deal only with the original creditor (WHOEVER THE CREDITOR IS)

    As stated in the Law...
*(4) The term ‘creditor' means any person who offers or extends credit creating debt or to whom a debt is owed, but such term does not include any person to the extent that he receives an assignment or transfer of a debt in default solely for the purpose of facilitating collection of such debt for another.

    U.S.A.

    Hope this helps you
