This company is a legit company. I Googled this phone number to try to find one of their locations and found this blog calling them a scam. They do Accounts Payable for one of our clients to us; they actually (theoretically, as it's for our client) owe US money..

Many collections/payables companies are hired by much larger corporations since they are so big and widespread. I have gotten personal calls in the past from company names I did not recognize (may or may not have been this one, don't remember), but when I took time to speak with them as to what was being collected and what for, they were correct on my outstanding debt every time. I once had a debt from years ago with T-Mobile and some other company I did not recognize was calling and calling about a debt and I got very frustrated with it, so I eventually demanded answers when they called. They explained that they were hired by T-Mobile to collect & negotiate debts which have been outstanding for longer than a certain period of time. Hence the term "you have ------ days to make payment before this is sent to a COLLECTION AGENCY." Corporate establishments aren't messing around when they say that. These places will send letters, too.

I have learned a lot from past mistakes about getting past due with my bills (especially credit cards!), but not once has a debt collector called me with a charge I have never heard of, which seems to be the card irresponsible people like to try to play on these people who are just doing their job (it's already a crappy one at that..). Once these go to a collection agency, you usually can't even pay the original company which you established the debt. They are usually "sold" to collectors for a certain amount of money, and now you owe the collectors. In some cases, companies "hire" collectors to take care of all of the terrible cold-calling and if they get that amount or even a negotiated amount, the collection agency gets a "commission" off of that to pay for their services, and Big Co. gets what's left; better than nothing.

Point being, they are a real company and they report to the Credit Beareu; if you do not pay them and they eventually do go away (it will happen, eventually), you get a bad mark on your credit score for up to 7 years.

This company is a debt collection company, At one point they were calling me 4 times a day. I finally called them back and it was about a debt which was paid off OVER 4 YEARS AGO. This company is a joke and the people have NO idea what they are doing.

From the sounds of your reply you are either a former or current Trans World Systems employee or another collection agent trying to do “damage control” And while I do agree with your description of the debt collection process, I do disagree with your saying that a debt collector has never called anybody without it being a legitimate charge.

I am a personal witness of a recycled cell phone number being called, as we purchased a Trac Phone for our grand daughter and within a couple of days a collection agency started calling about a charged off debt from a clothing store charge card.

We literally played hell getting the calls stopped and after going thru all that, I found out from my own wireless provider (Verizon) that old cell phone numbers get recycled faster now because of people giving up home phones for cellular and also the explosion of the disposable cell phone market.

I see a lot of people here complaining that they are on “the list.” In short Trans World Systems is a legit collection agency and being on a do-not-call list will not protect you from these calls as they have the right to conduct collection activities, which is one of the exceptions.

If you have a cell phone being called and you are not the debtor, let them know they are calling a cell phone and are telling them to stop calling and you are also going to notify your carrier to have the number blocked and will keep track of all calls in the future.

Unfortunately it is your responsibility to get these people to stop calling and Trans World is among the worst in the business to deal with.

You might be the victim of a "skip tracing service" who gets information from court records, prior employers, or any document that you might have been listed as a personal contact. These people are very resourceful and are usually employed to find people who owe a sizeable debt. Sadly you still have to call them back to get the calls stopped. But the number is Trans World Systems, CMS or NCO, which are all basically the same people, and all equally difficult to deal with, be prepared to threaten legal action numerous times.

I got a call from 800-291-4367 just hours after activating my new phone.  Do they just call people at random?  Or does Verizon immediately give them your new number.

These people are relentless. I have not returned their calls because they are trying to collect a debt and I am debt free. They leave repeated messages flooding my voice mail box. This is an obvious scam and they need to be put behind bars. Will contact my local FBI office and report this number.

The number (800) 291-4367 is Transworld Systems Inc. a collection agency. If you so an internet search for 18002914367 that will come up as a UPS tracking number, not a phone number.

As far as I know this is the first time they called my house, asking for my brother who hasn't lived here in over 2 years. Every time I asked what the call was regarding they said they could only talk to a spouse or legal power of attorney. I'm assuming it's some sort of collection agency, but as soon as I said he didn't live here they hung up immediately. I'm pretty sure my brother doesn't have anything that requires collection agency's to call my home number, so it might be a scam or something. So frustrated because we keep getting calls from various agency's like this wanting to speak to him, and most of it I know is totally bogus. (I always look up the companys and numbers)

I understand that the 1-800 numbers cost them whenever the calls are returned so I called them about 25 times yesterday and hung up and about 10 times today.  I also blocked them from calling me.
