I started receiving Us Weekly in the mail only I don't remember every subscribing to it.  They called to ask me if I wanted to stop the automatic renewal for the subscription.  Then started to ask me "verification questions" like my address, date of birth, marital status, occupation, and if my household makes more than $1000/ month.  Then asked survey question such as which magazines I enjoy, and which credit card I like the most.  I told him that I prefer not to answer some of the questions and questioned why he needed to question me.  He said because I pop up box came up and that he needed to answer the question to move on and cancel the renewal subscription.  I then told him that I don't ever remember subscribing to a magazine and he said that I did it over the internet/phone by answering survey questions or trying to get a free prize which I don't do!  He said that it was too late for me to cancel my subscription and they were going to lower my payments from 30 to 20 payments of $59.90.  I don't need these magazines and I just got my first magazine 3 days ago!  He transferred me to his supervisor to complete the cancellation, she asked me what the exp date on my card was and I hung up the phone.  The # that they gave me to cancel my subscription was 1-800-643-8310.

For the past month (maybe more) I have beening getting several different magazines in the mail. I have NEVER signed up for any magazines and all of the sudden I'm getting Us Magazine and Women's Health Magazine... and I think there was one other at some point. A few days ago, this number started calling my house saying that I had so much time left on a prepaid subscription and then I was going to be automatically charged. I told the lady that I had never signed up for any magazines and she's like well you obviously did because we have all of your info like your birthdate and address... I was like well I never signed up for magazines and she hung up on me. A couple days ago, they called again and said the same thing except my dad talked to them and told them not to call back. They called again tonight and my dad got into a yelling match with the guy. I'm tired of getting magazines that I don't want and I'm tired of these calls!

This company has called me several times this year.  Typically it comes up as PRIVATE CALL.  When that happens I know not to answer.  The call was to inquire about how I liked my magazine subscriptions - I never subscribed to a telephone based company about ANY subscriptions.  What's more I am receiving a magazine (and have been for the last 3 months) on a weekly basis.  I have asked to be please be removed from any call list and and as I consider the magazine a gossip magazine, would never have subscribed in the first place.

I have contacted my cell phone service provider.  Is there anything I can do to stop the calls?  Stop the magazine?

Got a phone call from 800-555-1212 the other day asking if I was enjoying the five magazines I had subscribed to.  I told them I never subscribed to any magazines--they said I had and wanted me to talk to their "supervisor".  They told me that the subscriptions would automatically renew unless I answered a few questions.  Ha-Ha.  I told them I had to go to a meeting and couldn't talk right then.  Why don't these people get a real job.

Phone calls from READERS SERVICES or AMA MARKETING saying that I'd subscribed to a LOT of magazines for 5 YEARS to the tune of about $70/month. I can't afford that nor do I read magazines... I never signed up for this. They kept calling to "verify I am receiving the magazines I ordered" - cannot get them to remove me, and they are threatening to report me to collections. Also said I was "playing games" when I refused to answer questions about my income over the phone. I did find that they'd charged my card; I put a freeze on my card, will dispute any and all charges, and have filed a complaint with the FTC.

I've gotten many similar calls but today was the first I learned that they were going to be charging me $69/month for 5 years for these magazines!! I told them to cancel it, they said they couldn't but would reduce it to $59/month. I had to speak with 3 people trying to get this closed out with no luck. Finally I hung up on the last jerk, called my credit card to block the charges, and filed a complaint with the FTC.

On 18-Jan-12 I received a call (I was at work so it went to voicemail) from a Heidi at _MA Marketing saying something to the effect that her office had received a complaint and she wanted to speak with me to get the issue resolved. She said she could be reached at 1-800-__6-8130. I cannot call her back because the _ symbols above indicate unintellible portions of the voice message, and caller ID indicated the call came from the number 249 which obviously did not work when I tried to call it back. Calling the original number, 1-800-555-1212 gave unsatisfactory results as it simply takes me to  directory assistance. Obviously the outcome is still pending since I haven't connected with her, but I did get some results. I filed complaints with FTC, Do Not Call, BBB, and state Attorney General.

For those of you asking “What To Do” about these calls and fraudulent charges or claims of orders you didn't make -

File a complaint with the FTC and/or Do Not Call.
    http://www.ftc.gov
    http://www.donotcall.gov

File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau
    http://www.bbb.org

If you know which state they’re calling you from, file a complaint with that state’s Attorney General.
    http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Also check out the FBI’s page on frauds and scams. File a complaint there, if appropriate.
    http://www.fbi.gov/scams-safety/fraud

Submitting complaints to all these places might take 30-60 minutes. Some of the websites are easier to use than others.

Note your case number for each complaint so you can follow it up.

Actually, I filed complaints with the FTC, BBB, Florida State Atty General, and others. As it turns out, BBB was the one that got a response from the scammers and - hopefully - ended it for me.

1-800-555-1212 is a toll free directory assistance to find a company's toll free number. Sometimes people can use a website to use a virtual phone number. They type any number in the box and when someone answers its them, if someone calls back the real owner of the phone number picks up.

I have recieved 8 calls in a row from this number in the past hour now, when I answer it just beeps, like a fax machine trying to fax my cell.

    I called back and it's a directory assistance #.

I asked if they knew why I would be getting "faxes" from them, and he said I would need to call my service provider about it because it had to do with them.

Why is my service provider faxing me from a directory assistance company? I am with Telus, is this a Telus company. No clue? I hope the calls stop.

10 times now. It's 3:15 PM, and I have recieved 10 phone calls from them since 2:24 PM.

Oh and I called my service providor - Telus, and they said they had NO CLUE why they would tell me I needed to call my service providor. The only thing Telus can do for me to stop the calls, is change my number.

    How do I stop this.
