Received an web inquirey from our webste.  Asking about our business and wanting pricing on some equipment.  They also informed us that we had "typos" in our website so they assumed our business would be just as problematic as our website.  I googled the phone number, and this site is the first hit.  So,  are they changing strategies and tring to run internet scam now????  it did give an ip address:  24.8.120.88 and she left her name as Annie Mousse

yes it is a RIP OFF!! You said they said you won $100.00 but you are shelling out $168 for magazines. The phone number is coming from an 800 information number. Hope you didn't go for it.

I get calls from this, but if I answer they don't even talk to me. I hear them talking to each other. I say "Hello, hello!" And they don't answer. Very strange. And yes, the number shown on the caller ID is directory assistance, fake. I have had trouble with Reader's Services(also a fake name) and got the State Attorney's office on it. They contacted the lawyer for Reader's Services and I still had some phone calls after that but once I explained how it had been dealt with the individuals with each phone list (not updated, they just call you forever) each stopped. But now this stupid fake number, several times now. And I can't even talk to them!

I got a call today regarding California Senate Bill 645 (Charter School Initiative) that looks like it has already passed.  The recording said to press "1" to be connected to my legislator to tell them to vote "no" on this bill.  I did that & I was then disconnected.  I certainly hope that this wasn't a call from a prison inmate & when I pressed "1" it forwarded them to China or Venezuela or somewhere.  I won't EVER do that again.

Thank you for your post.  I just got a similar call and it confused me to no end.   I stopped when they asked for new credit card info.   No way without seeing some information.

Same situation as everyone has explained above. Never ordered any magazines, yet they say I owe them. When I tell them this they say they can't stop the calls because a balance is due. I told them to take the balance and wipe it off becuase this is not legit. They hang up on me each and every time.

I had the sam ething happen to me yesterday. The person asked me for my age and the magazines I subscribed to. She would let me ask questions and would not tell me the name of the company she worked for.

    HelpDeskStaff
We are a Helpdesk staff supporting a web-based application for a government agency and we repeatedly receive calls from the general public thinking we are the U.S. Department of Transportation.

We have received a significant number of calls like this and we have to always inform them that we are listed incorrectly. After we notify the caller (who may or may not be rude after finding out they are calling the wrong place), we try to give them the correct number to call which can vary from state to state depending on the location of the caller. Since we are not responsible for maintaining this list of numbers, often times the number we provide is unavailable, out of service or has been changed. This results in yet more calls from the previous caller, who at this point is likely to not be very polite on the phone.

As a result of this error the efforts we undergo to provide minimal customer support (for customers that are not even our customers!) is often met with very little appreciation. More importantly, it takes away our time and ability to assist those end-users and callers that we are meant to support.

If anyone can provide us information on how to correct this issue and prevent users from contacting us in error, it would be greatly appreciated.

Did you report them to Better Business Bureau? Have you heard anything? I've been dealing with them for 2 months and they need to stop!

I received a call from "Your Reading Service" saying that they want to reduce my payments on my magazines from 30 months down to 20 months at $69.90 per month.  Who the hell are these ppl.  When I said I don't have an account with them he said the account is definitely active and that he would be sending my some information in case I wanted to change my magazines.  I've never received anything from them and I've never paid them anything.
Who the heck are these ppl - and why doesn't being on the "Don't Call List" mean anything to these ppl.

The BBB needs to get involved and shut these ppl down.  Their sales tactics are all meant to mislead and confuse you.

We started receiving about 5 different kinds of magazines in the mail that we did not order.  I telephoned every phone number for the main office on these magazines and told them that we did not order these magazines and to stop sending them.  Some were not fit for the children in our home.  I also told each main office I was not paying for these magazines. I told them to take our name off of the mailing list.  They said our name was from a third-party mailing list.  We were throwing the magazines in the trash can.  After two months, we have finally stopped getting the magazines.  Now we are getting calls from 800-555-1212 asking us about the payment for the magazines we had ordered. We have told them that we have already contacted each magazine.  These phone calls keep coming.  We have three phone calls this weekend and three two nights last week.  It is funny because you can ask to speak to a supervisor and the lady says she does not have a supervisor and hangs up.
