Actually, they call on bills upon which you are making regular monthly payments, too, not just stagnant bills.  Every one of their messages is 4 seconds long and consists of 4 numbers that is obviously the end of a phone number.  I ignore them.

This lady called me and asked for me, I said speaking. She stated she was a debt collector from the hospital and that I owe $91, how will I pay that. I said I can't pay that today, she then said"well we can set up something the next pay period." I stated to her " that I just started working". She asked where do you work and that it's only $91 and asked was I married.... She had an attitude when I wouldn't tell her where I worked.. I called the number back and they hung up the phone..

They keep calling me, luckily my voicemail isn’t set up, and fortunately the iPhone sends unknown callers straight to vm. I don’t owe anything, everything is paid for through workman’s comp, and my LTD.

They are the NASTIEST debt collectors Ive ever talked to. I know I have the debt and its a medical debt. I was in the hospital getting ready to have surgery with and infections. I told them that and that I would to be able to take care of this right now, they told me too bad I was in the hospital and that I made the debt and should be able to pay it. No empathy what so ever. They just called me today and I asked who it was and the just kept asking for my name, I told them some fictious (they cant rerun you credit if they dont talk to you) and asked to take a message, they guys said no. I asked if it was a personal bussiness matter and he wouldnt say and hung up. again I say N A S T Y!!!

Thank you to everyone who shared their experience.  I do have a couple past-due medical bills.  At least two were either [a] at the time of service or [b] coded wrong and my Medicare advantage insurance sent them a letter – with a copy to me – instructing them to correct the code and the bill would be paid.  I am doubtful that the company making the call was aware of the past-due bill.

You will need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt, and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
    http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-an-atto ... tates_value=All

Everything else you need to know follows including at least two or more federal and state agencies where you should report their criminal activities.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

They constantly call a google voice number I set up for a 1 time dealing. It is not connected to any of my bills, medical or not. Hell, I wouldn't even be able to tell anyone that google voice number if I wanted to. They also say they are calling for Atrium health, I have never heard of Atrium health. It does not exist where I live now, am planning to move, or have ever lived.
    This is a scam
