- JWI am receiving constant calls - every 2 hours from 1 800 266 7073 claiming to be American Express. The callback number is 800-592-1160. I called American Express and they said that they did not call me and that this is a phishing scam. I put this as a Prank Call because there is no way to indicate a phishing call.
- Caller: bogus Am Ex
- Call type: Prank
- Doris replies to Biy| 6 repliesYes it is a legitimate call from American Express Billing Department. No fraud involved
- GordonF- American Express! They are bar none the WORST creditors in existence! Don't ever do business with these monetary villains!
- Caller: American Express
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Tired Of Calls replies to Biy| 1 replyNo, it's not a real number. I don't have an AMEX account and have never have had an AMEX account, yet they are calling me and saying my account has issues.
- ScamsmasherThe called here about an hour ago and asked for a family member who has not lived here since the early 90's, I said he does not live here. They started to ask me something I just cut them off saying BYE! and hung up. I do feel for the people that they take advantage of. I can be a telemarketer-scam artists worst nightmare. So if they or the shills see this, call back at your own risk, I WILL make you HATE your job,,and ME.
- Caller: NoMatter
- troubleBeen getting these calls frequently. Called Amex Platinum. They said it's not theirs, and they would refer the phone number to the Fraud department. I said I hoped they could negotiate something with these guys, like a plea bargain.
- Caller: fraudstersRus criminals
- MC3 or 4 calls a day after I have repeatedly told them it was a wrong number. I DON'T have an American Express card. Each time they say they will take me off the list.
I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission- Caller: American Express
- JimI just received this call on March 26th, 2015.
It sounded like an Asian male voice asking for my wife's name, "This is a call for [my wife's real first and last name!]", and then an immediate switched over to a recorded, deep male voice, "Please call American Express for an urgent business matter at 800-592-1160.".
So the phishing continues, over five years after this was initially reported!! AMAZING!- Caller: American Express
- MJDThis number just called our business. CID said Toll Free. Hung up when I answered. Our business accepts AmEx cards, but we do not have one.
- Caller: Toll Free
- Anne| 1 replyJust got a call from this number on my cell, no name attached. I ignored it and no message was left. If the caller was AmEx it would surely be identified along with the number on the caller ID. Neither my husband nor I have ever had an American Express account. Obviously a scam... I'm tempted to call up and yank their crank!
- Caller: Unknown-- probably a scammer
- Call type: Prank
- Sam replies to AnneI have received several calls and had a great time messing with them. I have also reported the call to AMEX and they have no idea why they were calling as I do not have an account either.
- cbThey have called twice within the last hour / will not leave a voice mail. As a general rule I do not answer a number I do not recognize. If they won't leave a message...perhaps not legit?
- NanaFake. I don't have amex
- Call type: Prank
- ABC| 1 replyMy fiancé just received a call from this number, as well. Has never had an AmEx card. This is most certainly fraudulent. Not returning the call, no one should with all of the scams that go on today.
- Corrine replies to ABCABC the calls are from AMEX. Your fiancé must have a phone number that belonged to a AMEX customer at one time.
- Becky D. replies to Doris| 2 repliesI find it hard to believe it's a legitimate number when this number is calling me and my husband and I don't even have an American Express card nor have we ever.
- Lassie replies to Becky D.This *might* be a real AMEX number... but even if it is it's possible that some of these calls can be scams. Criminals can fake Caller ID to make it appear that their calls are coming from this number. The person who receives the call can never be sure.
If you receive a call from this number, just hang up immediately and call American Express yourself using the number on the back of your card. That's the only way to be safe. - Laura Von Der Ahecall me daily
- Caller: American Express
- Call type: Debt collector
- MickeyI have been getting calls, no messages, just hang ups, from this number for a couple of weeks.
- give no infogot multiple calls from number and called back and was told it was AmEx but when I called number on back of card, I was told it was not and that AmEx would not ask for card number or social security no. Definitely phishing scam and those claiming above that it is legit are part of it,,,can't this be stopped?
- Caller: Who knows--was not America n Express
