- HHI got a call from this number and they left a voice message but did not identify themselves. Looked it up here and folks are saying its AMEX... except I do not have an AMEX account!!!
- Caller: AMEX
- smarter than most. replies to LOLI have never had their card so if the number is legit why would they call me?
- AnnieReceived phone call from this number tonight, telling me my costco account was behind on payment and they wanted to be sure my information was up to date. They didn't even have my full first name, and there aren't any costcos in my state.
- AMEX replies to DorisNo it's not.
- Jesus H Christ replies to csrTaking the scam to a new level trolling these sites?
- LisaI receive calls daily from 1-800-592-1160. I contacted the site at the number on my account and they state they do not see this number associated with American Express. It was reported to the fraud team. Do not call back on the number you see on caller ID or one that may be left for you to call. Always call the main number on the back of your card and/or on your statement. The message being left is: "American Express has an important message for you, please stand by."
- Caller: American Express
- grobertcalls me multiple times a day. I answered once but just heard a computer tone. Calls are continuing. I would like them to stop.
- Caller: united states
- Annoyed by Cardholder Services800-592-1160 called twice in 2 days leaving a voice message saying they were American Express with an urgent matter and to call them back. I called the number on the back of my card instead and they confirmed that 800-592-1160 was a legit AmEx number. The representative put me on hold to find out what the urgent matter was but after a minute she came back and said that there was nothing out of the ordinary concerning my account and it was paid in full. Did someone else use this number as their Caller ID to appear legit so I would pick up the call and give them important personal information? I didn't fall for it.
- Caller: 800-592-1160
- gregory shortridgeAutomated call repeated over continually at work .don't have and don't want. Stop asap
- RoxanneIt is Amex. They call when you are 5 days late in your bill.
- Caller: Amex
- Call type: Debt collector
- HerbThis is slicker than the usual scammers, but I still believe it's a scam. It specifically said, "This is not a marketing call," so what could they want with me? . I don't have an AMEX card. Thing is, while caller ID can be spoofed, they're asking me to call the same number back. ??
- Caller: Amex
- Anonymous800-592-1160 has been calling me for weeks, many times more than once a day, claiming to be American Express. Sometimes they leave messages stating that it is not a telemarketing call, sometimes it hangs up right when my answering machine comes on. I finally called, the person I talked to gave her name and asked why I was calling. I explained you keep calling me and she asked for my account number. I told her I don't have an account, at least not anymore, 20 years ago. She then asked for my social security number so she could see why they were calling. I did not, of course. She was courteous and not at all displeased that I would not give my SSAN. She even provided an ID number for her. The fact that she gave her name and an ID number does lend itself to some degree of assurance, however, the phone number she gave me to confirm that this was supposedly American Express was this very same number. I'm not altogether convinced about the legitimacy of the calls I have been receiving.
- Caller: "American Express" (sarcastically speaking)
- Viv A replies to Becky D.I too, have no American Express card and although I have blocked this #, it rings 1 time before blocker kicks in and they have now called me at least 2X per day for FOUR months! Beware! I have received incoming calls in the past with my OWN name as the in coming call. They have stolen this number and want your social security number. Any legitimate business will already have the personal information they need and won't be asking for it. I suggest a call blocker at the very least because at least I only get ONE ring.
- UnknownThis is fraudulent. Not AMEX. GIVE NO INFO
SCAM SCAM SCAM- Caller: Amex
- EricThe message claims to be AmEx. If you call the AmEx phone number on your card, you'll be told (as I was) that that is not a number AmEx uses and they do not have any issues with your account. Many say here that the caller asks you to confirm card number, etc. DO NOT EVER GIVE YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION unless you are calling the phone number on your card!!
- Caller: Claim to be American Express ( but is not)
- BBCalled the number on the back of my American Express card instead. Fraud department said that this is not one of their numbers and never to call it. They are looking for personal information.
- jackThey place a creepy recorded call every day. Please halt the scam.
- Caller: alleged to be amex
- Dan in CASame as most here, with the message stating that it is AmEx. Calls on a daily basis. I do not have an AmEx card. Sounds like a scam, whether or not people confirm that it is actually a phone number owned by AmEx. They are obviously not calling me about a delinquent account as some nimrods in this thread suggest, as I do not have an account for it to be delinquent.
