I received a call from this number from a man with a ghetto accent who insisted he could not tell me what the call was about until I identified myself with the last four numbers of my social security number.  Kept mentioning federal law.  When I refused first he got nasty and kept saying it was all on public record anyway so what was the difference.  Then he said I should call hm back, but never gave me either a name or an extension.

The local hospital musty have given them my account.  I have a billing dispute with them over unauthorized charges and errors in the bill.   The hospital wrote they were investigating my claims and would respond shortly.  They never did. That was the first week in September.

I continue to get calls from 800-609-5666 looking for a person I do not know.  Even though I have contacted the number that they leave on my machine to have my number, they continue to call.  I've also called the number on caller ID.  Only get voice mail to leave a message.  Am fed up with this harassment.

Got a call from this number this morning.
A nasty voiced lady said she was calling from a collection agency and asked me my DOB and last 4 digit of ssn. If I don't she would not let me know what I owed from where.
I am sure I did not own any money to anyone, nor did want to give my personal information to the random person. I told her so and so. She was quite rude asking me to look up online using their name and number - I thought she was going to give me those but she just hung up on me. What the heck?
Would you give your personal information to anyone randomly called your landline and claims that you have overdue that you are pretty positive you do not? I WOULDN'T EVER!

The call started with "If you are ........ (my name)" press 1 if not press 2. I was asked to do that twice. Then a lady voice asked me to confirm DOB and last 4 of SSN. I keep asking for the purpose of the call before I give out that personal info. The only thing I get is "to speak with you on a personal matter". She tells me she can give me the web address to verify who they are and what they do. She said they do have my info and I just need to confirm it. Unconvinced I should, but I stupidly gave them the info asked for.  She tells me it's an unpaid bill for Cape Fear Valley Hospital and she makes me think it didn't get to my new address (she read my old address). I ask what department of Cape Fear Valley Health was this about and  what are the details, procedures involved, etc. She says all they were given by the hospital is the date of service. It was only 2 months ago. I should have thought about it right away that it takes more than 2 months before a hospital would turn any account to a collection agency. I got  on the web in the meantime and saw their site as she was speaking -- the site is looking professional and well. She tells me to go to "Quick Bill Pay" to see what the bill is for. I do but there is nothing much more there in details, just some long number and the $48.00 I supposedly have to pay. I was not going to pay but being more and more sure this is a scam, suspicions were confirmed that it is a SCAM because it was asking for my bank account no. and routing no. Normally that would be a debit/credit card number (that was an option but not the first one that popped up, you would have to chose that from the drop-down box.) Who would ask for a bank and routing no. if not criminal SCAMMERS? I started telling her this is a SCAM and "Bull" and she got mad and nasty and threatening that the hospital will collect it through them again (<"I'll be back" to haunt you>and <you can't get rid of me> sort of threat), plus that she will let them know that I said it is a scam and that this will show on my credit... Very unprofessional and mean, defense by attacking... she hung up on me as I was saying I will contact the hospital billing dept.
Thanks to all who took the time to write your details and your experience so that I can see it is a scam and regain my peace and dignity after it being wrinkled by how I was treated by this lady with ugly ways of talking.

I told the lady she was high (she claims to not be on drugs) and asked her if she was the secret police when she asked for my social. Next time, I sense a "these are not the droids you are looking for" coming on.

I get this message that they are First Point and a collection agency.  I don't know of any debt I have that  is outstanding and that won't tell me what companies they represent unless I verify who I am with information I don't want to give out when I don't know who they are !  I am worried about my credit rating though so I would like some idea of the companies that use them.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated !  Thanks.

Thanks for the information everyone. I haven't been answering my phone when this number appears, but today received a letter from FirstPoint claiming that I owe $25 to an insurance company that I have never heard of and certainly have never had an insurance policy with. Sleazy. They will get nothing from me.

    Just Wrong
This is a collection company who uses many numbers and many names.  If you haven't heard of them it is because they buy bulk write offs and over-due accounts (mostly $25.00 or less).  Most medical facilities write off these amounts because all they have to do is make a good faith effort to try and collect co-payments, deductibles, and co-insurance/out-of-pockets. (It would cost more to send bills to collect or hire someone collect after 90 days of non payment.) Once they have attempted, they will just write it off as a bad debt or uncollectable accounts receivable and take it a loss on their taxes. (So they do not lose anything anyway.) These scum suckers come in and offer xxxx amounts for their list of write offs.  Then these jerks LIE to you saying they are collecting for the medical facility when you actually don't owe the debt because it no longer exists. (The medical facility and IRS does not acknowledge the debt.) Collection Company is only out of pennies on dollar for your Name and write off amount.  (That is why they ask for your SSN, mailing address, etc because medical facility cannot give it without violating your privacy rights.) Medical facility will not see any money if you pay this company!  If you want to pay anyone, send the money to the doctor or medical facility. NOT THE BOGUS COLLECTION COMPANIES!
