Got a call like this on cell phone said they were Dell and "my computer IP address has been accessed & wanted to do a free scan to block it. I asked them to call back in 10 mins cause was busy. They complied after some argument. I called Dell & was told it was a scam to NOT give any info & that Dell NEVER calls to report anything like that or anything else wrong. Besides I figure an IP address is internet company prob not the computer company that sold me lap top. Was reported as scam to Dell but now getting repeated calls again every day every half hour in mornings starting at 8 am. No message is left & don't answer either. Fed up with it. Why can't phone company or Fed do something if know is scam? Too busy or lazy or scammers too smart? Anyway DON'T GIVE ANY INFO OR LET ACCESS MACHINE - COMPUTER!!! DANGER!!!!

Total Scam!  They said they were from Dell.  I told them to go ahead and try to access any of my Dells.  If they were successful, then I told them I would believe in reincarnation of PCs since all of them are long gone and very dead!  I'm pretty sure most of the words this person (could not tell if they were male, female, etc) were swear words in whatever language they were using!

Computer Support SCAM: Claimed to be from Dell Technical Support, and that my computer had errors that needed to be deleted.  A few months ago I got a similar call so I called Dell to ask if that was a legitimate call.  They said it was not.  If you get a call from Dell it will be from one of their official numbers, and if they are calling about a problem they will have a call ticket to reference.  Best to call Dell yourself, and not take support calls from anyone that you are NOT expecting.

I received a call from a person with a heavy foreign accent which made it hard to understand.  The guys was trying to tell me my Dell computer was sending notices to Dell that I had malicious virus on my computer and what I needed to do in order to rectify this.    This is a scam, have gotten this call several times over the years about the same thing.  Originally they couldn't tell me the computer model/id; this time they could which was scary.

I have received multiple calls today from this 800-624-9896 number with the person (Alexander) stating he is from DELL and they have reports that my computer has experienced security breaches and has virus-related files on it that will result in my machine shutting down. The guy had my cell phone # and my work # along with my personal email address. I told him I smelled a SCAM and he hung up.  Then about 30 minutes later the same guy called back and started the same dialogue with me as if he didn't even remember our earlier call. I told  him he smelled like a Scam artist and I hung up.

Thanks to other posters for the lowdown.
My most recent call TO Dell Tech Support included a warning about this scam.  As with other posters, I think Dell did a lousy job of proactively advising customers of the hack that revealed customer information to scammers.   As with other posters, I did not answer the incoming call, and no message was left.  This is their 2nd pfishig expedition to our landline, 1st reported on 16 Feb.

This is the # for Dell technical support. Fella wanted access to my computer. I refused. I hung up and called Dell myself. Told the man helping me I suspected a scam and asked him if Dell was trying to contact me to inform me of a problem. He said no.

Received 4 calls today.  Caller ID said it was Dell.  I answered on the 4th call.  Rude man who spoke very poor English asked me why am I changing my ip address.  I responded with "this is a scam" & I hung up.

Answered the call and a woman repeatedly said "hello".  I said hello 4 times before she finally said she was from IT department.  Did not identify any company so I knew immediately it was a total scam.  I cussed her out and she hung up.
