    Annoyed person
I keep getting calls from these stalkers, so i finally googled the number and found this site.  I pretty much cursed them out just now and told them to remove my number from their call list.  i have no idea whose debt they're calling me about, but ive told them SEVERAL times they have the wrong number but they keep calling.

They're insane. I just reported them to FTC>

Got a call from them. The lady identified herself but didn't identify who she was with. She was looking for my husband about a "conflict of interest" matter.

Why is a debt collector calling about "conflict of interest" matters?

Sounds fishy.....looks like I'll be ignoring this number in the future.

I am suddenly having the same issue. I don't owe anyone so they have no reason to contact me. I have enough crap in my life to deal with and don't need to bothered.

A female called and asked for someone I dont know.  She said I think you are him and she told me the police would be out tonight and arrest me if I didnt take care of this debt.
I said, "Send them out. I'd love to see them."  They never showed.
But, My Attorney's papers will be out to them soon.

I just got a call today from this number at my job which left a message stating they had "wonderful" opportunities for me in their office.  I'm so glad I looked up the number before calling back.  I thought it was very unprofessional for a recruiter to leave a message on my work phone.

    Stop the calls?
Received a call from this number, asking me to call back with reference number. Left a message, I didn't get anything in the mail, and if it was for my credit card, who I tried to work with and refused, something needs to be done to these credit card companies, who will not work with you in our economy times. If you don't have the money they need, but agree to maybe $50.00 because that is all you have at least your trying to pay something. They raised the rates, and got everyone into this situation. Yes we used them, and that is our fault, it is not all one sided, it is both sides. So the only way to help each other is to work together. Now they have hired lawyers, which cost more money, instead of working with individuals. I just wish there was some sort of right answer that our government could do to help. As consumers, we need to fight back, and find a law firm that is willing to help all of us that are going through these tough times. HELP US, before people go crazy. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posters: John & Jai are clearly working with the debt collection agencies.

Tactics they like to use: Debt collectors like to threaten lawsuits, calling from law offices.  They may be "attached" to the law office, but they are not a law office.

    THINGS TO KNOW:
After 7 or 11 years, so long as you dont make a payment, and even better, don't answer the phone, past credit card debts no longer can be brought to court, and each year they have a diminishing impact on your credit score.  You can then get a 3-in-1 credit report, mail your credit cards and start working with them to REMOVE that CC debt from your score. Cool eh?

    MY STORY:
I never answered the phone, and for a period they would call my parents or my phone and leave messages.  Nothing came of it, nor of the lawsuits I was destined to have.  I never answered the phone so I don't have any hard animosity towards debt collectors. The nightmares and stress I am not fond of. My girlfriend DID answer the phone and wow...those collectors really woke up on the wrong side - they smell blood, they sense fear, they pounce.   I chose "don't answer" and honestly, I think I chose right.  The worst that can happen is they actually do bring you to court..and guess what? You only pay what you can reasonably afford.  The courts would side with you, I imagine.

GETTING SOME OF THE STRESS OUT:
For student loans, call up the RIGHT agencies and work out a payment plan to get out of default.  You do this by calling your school and finding out who takes care of their loans in default.  you can negotiate with the debt agencies on monthly payments (i asked what the minimum was..it was $105 for one, the other was $100...and i missed a month or two without issue!).  Then, once you are out of default, you can declare "forbearance", which I'm doing right now and making payments of: $10/ea a month for each of my 2 newly un-defaulted loans.  Heck, i pay $12 and $15 just for kicks.

NOTE: Forbearance can last up to 12 months, and at the end you pay the interest for the year (mine would be $150).  Then, you ask for forbearance AGAIN! you can do this up to 36months.

    IN THE FUTURE:
now, i have the military paying off my loans, i signed up under a loan-repayment contract.  i do hear there are grants or something out there, but i wouldn't know where to begin. i just sucked it up and figured i'd look good in camo. sure beats stripes.  I *may* pay off my credit card, but I will do so having learned what to fear, and what to ignore - and to slowly work on things that I can change.

For those feeling overwhelmed...I was there.  Know that you need to address some of your debt if you can.

If you can't and want to ignore the calls..then IGNORE THE CALLS.
Don't ignore the calls, then cave in and answer. IGNORE THE CALLS completely. Don't ever answer a call from a number you don't recognize.  E-V-E-R.

Having said this, don't continue to do stupid things like get yourself into new debt "just because nothing will occur".  Rebuilding takes time, try and suck it up and make smarter decisions. If you continue to make poor decisions knowing what will occur - the fault is yours.

I hope I didn't get too preachy towards the end, but I went through it, my girlfriend went through it - and sometimes we need a swift kick to the head to remind ourselves that it isn't as bad as we think it is.

    cheers!

Umm...seems an odd way to get results.  Wouldn't the poster call THE COMPANY THAT IS CALLING rather than asking for no more calls on a web site they probably never read?

    My funny message
OK, so I had a message on voice mail from this number.  An obviously disgrunteled worker says, "I think you should all go to counseling."  Not only do I not owe them any money, I've never talked to them before.  To make this funnier, I am a counselor ;)   And I think this guy has some issues!
