- Emily| 1 replyThis "company," Creditors Interchange, called me stating they were trying to collect on a debt for my father. I told them that as I am an adult who hasn't lived with my father for 12 years, they needed to call him. I confirmed the number for him, and they said "well, he doesn't answer his phone." Okay, but not really my problem. They have called me now repeatedly harassing ME for my father's debt. They said that they will begin sending mailings to my house. They have also called my sister, my mother (his ex-wife) and discussed the details of his debt with her. The woman, Lori, told my mother that the purpose of these efforts are to embarrass him into paying. This all for a $300 debt (so they claim). They are also calling his in-laws now. I researched and found out that harassing family members regarding another person's debt and also discussing the details of that debt is illegal and a violation of the FTC. Today I contacted a lawyer since they refuse to stop harassing everyone in our family and violating his privacy as well. Total scum.

- DaniI have been getting repeated calls from these people (Creditors Interchange). They either were given my number by Take Charge America or snagged it from them. TCA is the ONLY company that was given my unlisted phone number. When I wouldn't respond to their calls, they even tried calling the fax line I had called on, using caller ID.

- Ada Freeman| 1 replyThey call and threaten my 87 year old mother for something that one of her children foreclosed on over 10 years ago. They threaten to take her to jail.
After many times of her telling them to not call her, she will have to be hospitalized soon because of their harassment.- Call type: Debt collector
- bonnie replies to teaspoonWhat state are you in? If it's a community property state then yes, your husband is responsible for your debts. If it is not then no, he is not responsible and they would need to get their facts straight. Additionally to all the posts yes, this is a legitimate debt collection agency. Because you may have a new cell # that belonged to someone else, whatever, doesn't make them [***], much as we feel that way toward creditors, especially when they're collecting on our bad debt. However the problem is, yeah, we probably owe it, but no, we can't afford to when one or more in a family is current out of work.
- Faith| 1 replyI have been receiving calls from this number for months. But, I never called them back because they have never told me why they were calling in voicemail. Asking me to call you back about "a debt" and leaving your ext is not going to get me to call you. I just had their main number blocked, and if I get a call from another number of theirs, I'll block that too. Luckily Sprint lets me block up to 50 numbers.
I'd rather work with the original company on any of my debts, and am glad that I'm already cautious with debt collectors! Glad I never called them back. - Harvey HollidayThe person thay ask for does not live here.

- fedup| 2 repliesI have been getting calls from this company for at least 6 months -different voices, different people-but the theme is the same-VERY nasty loud and attempting to be intimidating-my wife and I have a challenge as to who can keep them on the phone the longest....We never give any information nor have we confirmed any of the information that they have, but I hold the record in keeping them on the phone for 43 minutes ! I got the record by pretending to be a stutterer ...it was awesome and a lot of fun.
I also got the "Charlene" (the caller) to laugh hersterically when she asked me how I was going to meet my "obligation" to the "Bank of America" for the outstanding $15,000 balance. They are poised to get nasty and intimidate you , so when I told her I was sorry for missing the payments and would immediately write a check-I asked for the exact amount and then suggested that I could overnight her cash if she wanted-she just burst out laughing outloud for at least a minute-totally broke character...it was awesome.....they still call at least once a week...I really like the guys who put on the deep "official" sounding voices...they sound like bad Don Corneilous impersonators......Dont let these creaps get you down....have some fun with them.....- Caller: 800-724-1107

- Alpa Chino| 1 replyI got a call but they did not leave a message. If you encounter them they have to abide by thes rules stated below. Otherwise they are subjet to legal action themselves.
As taken from:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm
What practices are off limits for debt collectors?
Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:
use threats of violence or harm;
publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
use obscene or profane language; or
repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.
False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;
falsely claim that you have committed a crime;
falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;
misrepresent the amount you owe;
indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren’t; or
indicate that papers they send to you aren’t legal forms if they are.
Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:
you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt;
they’ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or
legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action.
Debt collectors may not:
give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company;
send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn’t; or
use a false company name.
Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt – or your state law – allows the charge;
deposit a post-dated check early;
take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or
contact you by postcard.- Caller: Creditors Interchange
