Left a message saying that they are calling on behalf of a debt collector.   My name wasn't said.  The name of the debt collector or for what account was never mentioned

I have received many calls from Eastern.  I blocked the call early, but it doesn't stop them leaving messages.  I read a lot of this thread and decided to call them.  Turns out, they had the wrong number in their system.  We will see if I get any other calls.

just received a call from this number looking for a person who is a relative of mine but not associated with my telephone number.  Mispronounced person's name.  And when I asked what it is in ref to, they said "no, it is a personal matter"  They wanted to leave a number for me to pass onto however I told them that since they were trying to get in touch with this person who is not associated with my tel number that I would not take their number and would not pass their message on.  GOOD BYE!  KARMA to all of you crap scammers!!!!

If this is Eastern...they are trying to collect money I don't owe from Frontier. I had given them all my payment records & the cancel service date. They came back & said Frontier said I had kept equipment!? No! & not $600 worth. Frontier was also scamming I found a site with pages of stories just like mine. I'd never received a statement from them & they blocked the customer info site. But I keep good records. My last call they said they'd look into it. Due to the collection status my excellent Credit Score is ruined & its false!

You will need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt, and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

called and immediately asked if they were speaking to (my name). said i wasn’t in the habit of verifying my identity to strangers. she said the name is on the caller ID. told her my caller ID said “account services” so that’s why this seems a bit off. she said i could look them up. i did and noticed it was a collections agency. i don’t owe money to anyone and certainly not the point where it would be handled by a collections agency. told her federal law extends me the right to settle any debts with the original creditor (this is true—use it) and that they can stop calling me now. then i hung up. i also noticed on their website they seem to only serve utility companies and the like on the east coast. i live thousands of miles away from there—nice try.

If they did it was 11 years ago so that brings into question why you are posting in this thread?  You didn't get a call from this number since you didn't post about it.  Did you really decide to come here to criticize an 11 year old post?

I asked who they were, they refused to tell me, so I hung up. If they really want to clear up account issues, then why not say, "this is an attempt to collect a debt," or something.  People just assume it's a scammer because they don't say anything.  I'm sure I'm not alone in simply rejecting these calls. Anyway, I don't believe that I have any outstanding accounts.  I've been paying down my bills for the last 3 years, so I'm still not convinced that it isn't a scam!

Received a call but it was blocked from this same number , if it’s collections from Comcast as others have said , I never had comcast and their is nothing on my credit report with any debt owed so in my eyes it is a scam and if anything it’s very old debt from 20 years ago sooo that’s that .
