I got a call, too, and they asked for my husband. My husband never puts this number down for anything, we always use his, so I know it's not legit, but somehow they know more about us than I'm comfortable with!

Voice mail was left saying they were calling from AMCA. Possibly American Medical Collections going by above post?

    Also want to say this:

Be VERY wary of any listing here about a number to call or a site to visit to get your number on a do not call list. Some of them are actually COLLECTING numbers to call. Not saying the above is one of those, but I've used a link and a number given in a public forum only to have the annoying calls INCREASE in frequency. Make sure it's legitimate before using them!

By the way, an internet search for American Medical collections or AMCA returns nothing of value. Very suspicious.

Just now was the second time I received a call from this automated message. Its 7:20 on Saturday night! What business does that? When I googled the number all I found was this site. My number is already on the do not call list so I guess all I can do is report them. So anyone know what kind of company it is?

Had numerous calls and finally my wife talked to someone that had her name but a wrong SS# saying she owed for some lab tests. Told we would receive a bill/paperwork in the mail. Never received and they keep calling. Am looking to turn the number in to the state Attorney Gen. and see if they will stop then.

Okay, I just got the phone call about 15 minutes ago...  I called the number and got the message that it was not a sales call, and then when I called the number I got that they were closed...  Anyway, based on the above, my guess is that it is a Collections Agency for lab tests.  We had some blood tests that Blue Cross rejected.  Then as we were working it out with Blue Cross, we called the Quest Labs to tell them Blue Cross was going to pay.  I guess they got antsy, and sent it to collections?  At least that is my guess...  Geez, we haven't received a letter or anything, but I am just guessing based on the above posts.  Aren't medical claims fun?

For all of you who didnt know, its a collection company-and a legit one. It means they are calling you because you owe a bill from somewhere, sometime in your life from a medical facility. Trust me,Its legit, and I've paid off many debts through them. Pay up people!!!

What a crock of crapola. You really expect people here to believe your fictional tale of paying many debts through this company? Since lying and deception are the debt collection industry's guiding principles, it's hardly surprising that a debt collector would log in here to post false reports.

One other thing. Just because a debt collection company is "legit" doesn't automatically mean that the debt is legitimate. Nor does it mean that the debt collector is adhering to the law while attempting collection.

But please feel free to post more tall tales here. They are quite amusing.

Report them to the national do not call registry, and the calls should stop.

I am being called constantly by this number, and I don't know why. I call back and never reached a live person. I'll put myself on the DNC list also.

I've received calls from them, too, and they're always either asking for someone else or just leaving their number (800-804-0057).  I wonder if this "credit bureau" is legit.  They may be phishing for active phone numbers, particularly cell phone numbers since they're unlisted.  If reporting them doesn't help, maybe we can go through our phone company and get anonymous calls blocked, and also just verify that our numbers really are unlisted.

BULL. I DON'T OWE ANY MEDICAL BILLS AND THEY ARE ASKING FOR SOMEONE NAMED CARLA AND THAT DEFINATLEY NOT ME. WHEN I TRY TO CALL THEM, THEY WON'T LISTEN AND HANG UP ONLY TO CALL A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER. You might need to pay your bills through them, but I don't because I pay my bills as they come due. They won't listen and so I finally E-Mailed them asked them to stop. If they don't there is a lawyer who will make them stop. That is my next step.

We keep getting calls from a company asking for a Carmilla Anthony, which we do not know.  Sometimes it is automated, and one time it was an actual person, I told them there is noone at this number by that name nor do we konw a Carmilla Anthony and to please take us off their calling list.  They said they would comply.  But we are still recieving calls.  I am unable to get ahold of anyone at that number. I call and it says someone will be with me shortly, then it says I am the next called in line and then it says the office is closed call back at the specified time which is when I am calling.

HERE IS A POINT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO REPORT THIS COMPANY:

Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General' s office and the Federal Trade Commission. Many states have their own debt collection laws, and your Attorney General' s office can help you determine your rights.

The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint or to get free information on consumer issues, visit ftc.gov or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261. The FTC enters Internet, telemarketing, identity theft, and other fraud-related complaints into Consumer Sentinel, a secure online database available to hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.

Just FYI, that is from the Federal Trade Commission's website where you can get more information about debt collection violations.
