Called Twice, only ID was 800 Service. Did not answer because I did not recognize number. The idiots left no voice mail. The only thing I did was send in a change of address to stay on top of everything. Probably a mistake. Idiots should have a caller ID that says IRS when calling and leave a message why.

I received a Letter From IRS stating that I owe $1635.86. I know that I do not. The paperwork looks just like formal IRS papers.

I received a letter on cheesy paper in a cheesy letter saying they got my payment but not the paperwork. Didn't call the # on letter(above)and the call 1040 # had an endless wait. contacted Turbo Tax and found out I hadn't gone far enough with them and the e file  didn't get sent. Bottom line , letter was legit.

This is a scam.  If you received a letter, take it down to the
local IRS office and see if it is a valid communication.  If it is
not take a copy down to your local post office too, so the
postal inspectors can take a look at it. This is most likely
mail fraud as well as an IRS scam.

I received a letter with IRS letterhead, stating they received my correspondence and to call 1(800) 829.0922 if I had any questions.  I called the main IRS # instead (800)829.1040, and the rep did state that they received a letter signed by me with my address, stating I wanted to elect to include gross income and property.  I have no idea what this is about and did not send in any correspondence.  The IRS rep said he will note my account, but nothing further is required.  He also said to look at the identify theft info on their web site.

I got a letter asking me to call that number. Apparently I have a tax credit equal to the amount I paid last year. That is so BS.  But I was an identity theft victim last year and the IRS was cutting a check for the thieves when I realized  there was a problem I definitely believe it is fraud and if you owe money you should be paying Louisville not Kansas City which is for refund. Those morons want to see all my filings and tell them which account I would like my credit to be deposited in. The thing to do is have the FBI scope out 64999-0025 and arrest them.

I received the letter and did called them and they told me that they do not have a record of me asking for the information. I spent nearly an hour with them on the phone, they did not asked for any banking information but was told that they would put a notice on their end regarding
the issue and an alert was placed on my file. However today I spoke to one of my friend she received the same letter and she immediately file her tax online and it was rejected by the IRS.  IRS is stating that they have already received the filing and the money had been paid to the filer.  Now she has to file a police report and re-file the paperwork and hope for the best.  I am afraid to find out about my paperwork now.  This is scary.

the scammers also can spoof this number to appear "official".   If they ask for payment immediately, it is definitely a scam.

I've gotten this letter twice.  The first time, a few months ago, before I filed my taxes.  I tried to call but was on hold forever.  I filed my 2016 taxes in January and have already gotten my refunds.  I just got another letter today (looks a little different than the first one) stating I owe the same amount as the first letter. This time, I got the phone number for the IRS online, it's not the same number as stated in the letter.  Called again today, was on hold but I was able to request a copy of my filing for the year in question via tele-prompt.  I do suspect this is fraud, because if I really did owe, they would have deducted it from this years refund.

Wrong!  Grandson got this letter.  I checked out the company I filed his income tax through, THEN, I went to irs.gov.  You will find all the things to look for that are NOT on this fake letter.   DO NOT call the number on the letter.  You will get someone wanting all the rest of your personal info.
As soon as I finish typing this, I am calling the number listed on the IRS website.  And no, I am not putting THAT  number on here.  I'm a paralegal and I checked this out through the IRS...its a mail phishing scam, just like the email and the phone calls.
This letter actually says nothing, but they try to make you think you made a mistake on your form.  Get informed, people.  These criminals have hacked the IRS...I believe they got hacked around the election time last year.  Get involved.  Get informed.  READ carefully, and question everything.
Trust me---if you had received a letter in the mail from the IRS, their letterhead would have been proudly displayed!

I just got this letter stating that I had to pay Additional Taxes.  They had my Taxes owed correct and My Taxes withheld, but did not have my Estimated Taxes paid previously. Checking with H&R Block.
